A couple of notes on this week's chart: 1) I ran out of Christmas songs from the Gold list. Presumably, #30 should be some Christmas song as well. 2) This is the FIRST time on the sans recurrent chart that the #1 song is different than the one reported on the R&R AC chart. Jose Feliciano has taken the #1 spot on the sans recurrent rules chart. Next to Shania (the #1 on the 12/5/03 R&R AC chart) I have placed two #1 markers - the one in green is on the sans recurrent rules chart, and the one in plain text is for the official R&R chart.

JCMF3, I was wondering, for the month of December, do you think you might be able to post a similar chart, only sans Christmas songs?

Look for all those Christmas songs to drop at least somewhat on next week's Sans Recurrent Rules chart as all of the all-Christmas stations have just been dropped from the panel.

Denver's KOSI 101 is still being shown on the Mediabase chart as of this morning and they are all-Christmas. When is this supposed to happen?

JCMF3, where do you find the spin totals for these Christmas songs. Doesn't the chart only go 20 poisitons on Mediabase?

All the Christmas songs that had 1100+ spins yesterday are now in the 600s. Something must have happened. mmr247.com/mmrweb/AllAccess/Charts.asp?format=A1R&SHOWTOPn=200&GRC=G

Well, Christmas songs don't just keep rising. The stations probably added them to regular airplay right away with the Christmas season and the more recent increase is probably just late bloomer stations and songs leveling off on stations that already added them. A Christmas classic will probably go from 0 spins one week to 50 spins another week and then level off at around 60 spins. If this occurs on a bunch of stations, you have this effect.

I'm talking about total spins, not gains. All the Christmas songs that had 1100 total spins Sunday night only have around 700 now.

I don't know what the Mediabase site is doing really, but it looks like the Christmas songs are well on their way to still having 1000 or more spins by Sunday.

I use to love following the AC charts back in the early & mid 90's. But this is just pathetic.

But mediabase must still be monitoring spins for the all-christmas stations. Otherwise, we would not be getting the gold information that we are getting now and the currents would not be losing over 700 spins.

Well there are some stations spinning both Christmas and non-Christmas songs. The spins from those stations DO still count. That's why there are still plenty of gold Christmas songs getting airplay. Only the stations spinning NOTHING but Christmas music are the ones whos airplay doesn't count right now.
And obviously the currents are going to lost a lot of spins when you have 30% of the panel playing dropping all current songs for Christmas music as well as most of the rest of the panel reducing the airplay for currents to play some Christmas music.

Maybe I am not explaining this well: www.mmr247.com/mmrweb/AllAccess/Charts.asp?format=a1R&GRC=GIf you go there, then click on a song, it will tell you the top 20 stations spinning the song. Then click on the station and you will see that almost all of those stations are spinning all Christmas songs. So, my guess for the panel size is that is only reflecting the stations spinning currents. The all-Christmas stations are still being counted for the gold and recurrents.

Out of the 20 leaders for the Number 1 Christmas gold, 9 are listed as all-Christmas on 100000watts.

Checking all of the playlists for those top 20 stations for the top Christmas Gold song, 19 of them are all-Christmas (which is evidenced by the large spin losses for currents and the sudden gains of many Christmas songs).

The mediabase gold AC chart is showing that all the Christmas songs that were showing 1200 spins on November 30th chart, are showing about 500 spins on tonights chart in the LW column.
Would that mean that the December 5 Sans recurrent rules should be changed to account for this change?
Any explanation on what happened?

Dobie Gray 05 Sunrise-Simply Red 06 Look Through My Eyes-Phil Collins 07 I Can Only Imagine-MercyMe 08 Big Yellow Taxi-Counting Crows 09 Have You Ever Been In Love-Celine Dion 10 Dance With My Father-Luther Vandross
11 You Raise Me Up-Josh Groban 12 Invisible-Clay Aiken 13 If You're Not The One-Daniel Bedingfield 14 The First Cut Is The Deepest-Sheryl Crow 15 White Flag-Dido 16 Happy Christmas/War Is Over-John Lennon 17 Feline Navidad-Jose Feliciano 18 A Thousand Miles-Vanessa Carlton 19 Game Of Love-Santana Ft. Michelle Branch 20 Do They Know It's Christmas?-Band Aid 21 Have A Holly Jolly Christmas-Burl Ives 22 Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree-Brenda Lee 23 Blue Christmas-Elvis Presley 24 Fallen-Sarah McLachlan 25 Don't Know Why-Norah Jones 26 Last Christmas-Wham! 27 The Christmas Song-Nat King Cole 28 Merry Christmas Darling-The Carpenters 29 Wonderful Christmastime- Paul McCartney 30 Please Come Home For Christmas-The Eagles
Perhaps this should be the official sans recurrent rules countdown for December 05, 2003

The AC chart sans recurrent rules will NOT change. I don't know what Mediabase is pulling, but we have to go by the totals that were there last week.
I am going to account for spin losses in this week's sans recurrent rules chart as best as possible.

Who knows if anyone will take me seriously, but I think the spin totals you see in the LW column now are what they would have been last week had the airplay from the all-Christmas stations not been counted a week ago. And there's still one question I'd like answered: If the all-Christmas stations weren't dropped from the panel(or at least the airplay stopped counting from them temporarily), then how did all the top Christmas songs go from 1200 total spins to 700 in 24 hours last week?

Yes, I sure would like to know what Mediabase is pulling myself.
I was thinking that whatever mediabase did, the information chart posted for last week (Dec. 5) and the new one for Dec.12 will consist of completely different information, because of changes in panel size. That's why I posted the AC chart above.
We'll just have to watch what happens during the next few weeks. In the meantime, if somebody does stumble across the exact cause of the sudden change for spin totals please let us know.

Oh yes!! Feline Navidad indeed!! Didn't think anyone was going to notice. I did that on purpose. My friend sent me a Christmas card with a picture of some cats with Feline Navidad printed above them. Thought it was kind of cute.
