One of my favorite songs of hers ever, post-debut. Someone can pull up the chart stats for us. The raps on this are really tight too, and I remember the video being insanely hot.

Since this was paired with "My All" on the R&B chart due to them being on the same single, this doesn't have it's own chart stats.
I like it. It's one of my favorites on "Butterfly" which is probably the only album where she ever pulled off the urban vibe successfully. Hopefully this new album can go along with "Butterfly" in being a good urban album.

Breakdown feat "Bone Thugs-N-Harmony" is good. Mariah look very sexy in the video.

Hopefully this new album can go along with "Butterfly" in being a good urban album. Well, "Charmbracelet" was "'Butterfly' meets 'Daydream,'" so that should give you an idea about how the new album will sound! :) :) "Breakdown" is the JAM.

This is one of my top 2 Mariah singles, along with "Honey". I absolutely adore it. I love the phrasing in it. Bone Thugs sound great with Mariah - it's an amazing song.
Favourite word from the song: nonchalant!

I love it. The vocal arrangement at the end is amazing. I love the way she sings "Cry" over and over.

One of my favorite songs of hers ever, post-debut. Someone can pull up the chart stats for us. The raps on this are really tight too, and I remember the video being insanely hot. According to AMG, it hit #18 on Rhythmic. Mariah Daily's chartlogs have an asterisk next to Breakdown's positions in the My All entry, and they seem to indicate that it hit #53 on Hot 100 Airplay and #13 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. Anyway, I love this song-there's something about the way Mariah seems to be so caught up in the emotion of the song that she doesn't stop to take a breath between lines and just has to let it all out. The video is great as well-the chair dancing is hot and the whole Vegas motif is interesting (and she wears like, what, 10 different outfits over the course of the vid?)

It took me a year to learn the CORRECT lyrics. Now that I can actually sing along, I love the song even more. This is one of the many highlights on Butterfly.

This is still a jam. It sounds as fresh today as it did the first time I heard it in 1997.

Lyrically, this is one of Mariah's stronger songs. I also agree that this CD was the only one where her R&B/hip-hop vibe seemed thoroughly legit and not contrived (except for Honey)

Yes, I was 11 when this came out and words I learned by listening to the "Butterfly" album: succomb (Butterfly), nonchalant and guise (Breakdown), oblivious (Close My Eyes), elusive and blatant (Honey), ambiguous and inherently (Outside)! Thanks MC for the SAT lesson!

This song is AMAZING! The lyrics and vocals are amazing, aswell as the video.
I would have thought this song would have done a lot better than it did, oh well. Maybe she should re-release it. ;)

Definitely in my top 3 Mariah songs. Probably battles "Vision of Love" as my favorite.
