I don't think a topic has ever been made for this song. Anyway, I thought this was a great single. Too bad it never really took off. Oh yeah, and the video was great!

I love it. Maybe my favorite single from A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

Shame for radio to almost completely overlook this brilliant recording.
It could be "Clocks" recurrentitis affected it somewhat, but it's still no excuse for this ballad to not go Top 20 on Hot AC or have a shot of at least charting CHR/Pop.
What makes this so ethereal to me is how Martin's vocals flow like a soft breeze against piano soliloquy, then by the end the rest of the band comes in, reminding you it's Coldplay and they come in like they're angels heeding Martin's lament. I guess I got a little poetic in describing there, but the song is poetic.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Their best single from "A Rush...". Also an amazing video.

I love it, maybe even moreso than "Clocks". It's a shame I didn't really like it much when it was out. It didn't even make my chart. What a turn around!

Fantastic video. One of the best ever made, IMO. But, the song is kinda plodding. I can understand why it didn't do well on radio. And Chris Martin's voice isn't the best. I sometimes wonder if I would like their stuff more with a better lead singer.

This song made The Max Bound originally back in late 2002 upon its original release but then 'Clocks' was released in North America or something so that stormed up and 'The Scientist' was left out but eventually, the latter charted on my chart and peaked sometime in mid-to-late 2003 in the Top 40 somewhere.

It hit #15 on my chart, but probably should have done better.

Quite possibly even my favorite song from A Rush of Blood To The Head, this is just great. Equally great as the predecessor single, "Clocks". It's not really something that pop would want to play if they didn't want "Trouble" or "In My Place", but my local Hot A/c station (at the time it was local, at least) played this quite a bit. I like how it kind of builds to a climax, and it's melodic enough to where it's not boring.
This band may be overrated, but this song does not prove it ;) But it's inspiring me to make a report card topic on YOP.

This was a fantastic song, deserved much bigger success. And the video was good as well.

One of my favourite song's of all time. The melody, the chorus, the piano and guitar riffs, the video, was just perfect. This is a classic.

I've always thought The Scientist is vastly superior to Clocks.

I remember our station added Clocks and The Scientist at the same time. I loved this a lot more.

This song is a masterpiece. I'm surprised it didn't do better at radio, because this is a song that everyone knows... even people who don't follow music and who are into mainly R&B or Country know this song. Another ubiquitous non-hit.
I'm pissed this didn't get to #1 on my personal chart. It only peaked at #3, even though I like it a lot more than "Clocks" which got to #1.

I liked this song, but it got old and I now it sounds very whinny, but it does have a really good video.
