So I was educated that this samples two other songs, both from the 80's. One is Guy's "Goodbye Love" (also sampled by Mary Blige for "Don't Go" [the 1994 "My Life" album track]) and the other is DeBarge's "A Dream". Both of the originals are awesome, neither were singles.
I think the main reason this song works is the samples, plus Blackstreet's trademark electronico-crazy vocal editing trick thing, you know what I'm talking about. It hit #1 Rhythmic.

You made a good point in the fact that this song is good because of it's samples. It's really nothing special.
My favorite Blackstreet song is "Before I Let You Go".

Another song from Blackstreet's CD 'Another Level', released in 1996, made the R&R Urban chart in mid-1998, peaking in the 20s of something. I forget the title of it but what was up with that? Does anyone have the releases and peaks of all of the songs from that CD on the R&R charts?

"I Can't Get You (Out Of My Mind)" (I don't know why it got airplay that late). I don't have their R&R info, but here's how they did on Billboard's R&B Singles chart (with peaks and debut dates): No Diggity #1 4 (10/12/96) Never Gonna Let You Go #15 A (11/30/96) Don't Leave Me #1 3 A (12/14/96) The Lord Is Real (Time Will Reveal) #64 A (2/1/97) Fix #17 (8/2/97) I Can't Get You (Out Of My Mind) #54 A (6/13/98)

"I Can't Get You (Out Of My Head)" received airplay later on I believe because it had a nice remix, as well as being on the "Hav Plenty" sdtk.

My favorite of the Blackstreet songs I know. I'm one of the only people who bought this album for this song and not "No Diggity"

love it. apart from the brilliant sample usage (especially in the case of "A Dream"), I love the chorus and the vocals on it, which is all theirs.

The sample really worked on this. Just a really good track. I never knew the individual members names, but one of them could really blow. I loved his voice. The one singing right before the chorus and who does most of the big adlibs.

This and "No Diggity" are definitely their most memorable singles. I liked it a lot.

This may be my favorite song from Blackstreet. Heard this a lot on B96, WGCI, and maybe V103. Much better than the dreadful No Diggity" that so many liked.
