I knew this was the wrong single choice. Its not a dud YET but I think it will be. They should have skipped WYG and gone straight to 'Hot'.
Its catchy, kept the momentum going and its a perfect summer release.
If this does end up flopping they shouldn't dwell on it and wait a billion years to release 'Hot'. I hope they move on quickly.

I said its not flopping yet. But I think it will stall in the top 20/15. I think its run will be similar to '4 in the morning'. Not a major disaster but not a certified smash. I'll be very happy if i'm wrong. |

Hot is my fave on her album. It'll definitely go Top 20, hopefully Top 10. But back on subject, WYG is a smash and will go Top 5!

It's the sort of song that you cant help but love and sing a long even if u hate Avril.

Well...good news is stations keep ADDING it but eh...I dunno - those stations that had it in rotation are sure not taking it to the next step at all thus far  Its too early to say anything really though, it DID jump 10 spots so that's hardly 'flopping'. However...its not a Dr. Luke song so yah..., ok I'll drop it since its too early. I'm still VERY unsure about this going top 10 though. |

Anyone else think this song has really bad lyrics? (i. e. really cliche, like a bad song from the 80s) that's why I think this song will slow way down and maybe not even reach Top 10 pop - if it does, I think it'll fall pretty fast

I think the lyrics to the song are pretty good...It's not Avril's best ballad, but I think a lot of people can relate to it.

Doubt A. L. even heard of that song from the 70s - "Girlfriend" is as original a song as they come - at least in the past 20 years (except maybe "Hollaback Girl" by G. S. as influence)

Uh, Girlfriend is basically a copy of Hey Mickey. I mean, I like Avril, but I think people reach too much to try to claim she is an original/brilliant songwriter. She is a pop artist that makes generally generic music, but does it well and delivers them well. The best pop artists are the ones who do that not the ones who strive to be crazy or original all the time.
