I kind of see what Debbie is saying. I think its more Pop/Rock women than Pop/Rock in general. Women "rockers" kind of faded away for a while. The door seemed like it closing and then P!nk came along and kicked it back open. Michelle was more of a soft rock/pop. There is somewhat of a difference. I don't think Avril's or Kelly's intentions were to copy P!nk. And please refrain from using the term Pink fans as it is NOT all of Pink's fans. Thanks.

Okay I see the difference between pop/rock female and bands. Pink may have open up the door for the female rockers once again, but to say Kelly & Av copying Pink, it's just ridiculous in my eyes.

yeah, I agree. I mean Avril's CD came out NOT long after P!nks. So for her to record that CD in that short amount of time during that time of music would be very difficult. Especially since she was a debut artist.

Why? because it's true. Kelly and avril jacked her style. it never would have worked had Pink not re-opened that door to mainstream. Nothing Kelly and Avril have ever recorded sound like knock-offs of Pink songs. Each girl has her own sound and style. I would like you to name a song where Kelly or Avril 'jacked her style'.

Pink is/was completely original IMO - K. C. started out in the style of Mariah Carey, but added a rock edge - Avril definitely started out like Alanis Morissette!! (People seem to be forgetting about her:))

I didnt mean it as harshly as it seemed. I just meant that people are dismissing Pink as unoriginal now and as though Avril is completely original, when in all fairness Pink did re-open that door that seemed shut for a long time, since Alanis Moriessette. Im not talking about Michelle Branch or female rock/pop artists like that. Im talking about an artist who is "pop" who adds a rock edge and gets Top 10 hits on radio consistently. That is not Michelle Branch sorry. Im talking about a pop star with a rock edge. Thats what Alanis Morissette was and thats what Pink, Kelly, and Avril have all become. Who came first? Pink. Did she re-open the door? Absolutely. First "Dont Let Me Get Me" and then the song that confirmed she had was "Just Like A Pill". Would Avril have been successful without those hits? I dont know. Would Kelly have? I dont know either. I will say everyone thought JLAP and DLMGM would not work because of the genre they were which says something. As far as I am concerned, its not a bad thing at all. These 3 artists have made radio so much more enjoyable than it was with Britney, (the old Christina), NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, etc. There is real music now. And for those doubting any of the 3's originality, which I am guilty of myself, its important to realize the more original the industry becomes, the less original an artist can be. As time progresses originality dies down because more and more is being achieved. They are all original in the same way, but in a way that makes them all so unoriginal.

Thanks Debs for having my back. Yall don't like having a dose of you own medicine.
And LMAO at you guys calling her original. On her new album, she jacked two songs from other people. The seventies song, Boyfriend has nothing in common with Girlfriend, other than the fact that IT SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME!

Can't we have a debate in a civilised way?

Most of us aren't even trying to call her "original", we just don't think P!nk is the reason why she's so succesful. And two songs? There's only one - and even there it's debatable.

Are you serious? The song is a direct copy. You would have to be deaf or deluded to think otherwise.
And when I said deluded in this and my previous post, I was directing at those choosing to look over anything Pink or Alanis did and think Avril brought the genre back into fashion when she didn't.
And I do agree she sounds very different to Pink on most songs. And she would have still been big had Pink mot releases Mizz. I'm not stupid enough to debate that.

Well I can agree with that. :) Basically she WOULD have brought it back into fashion had she been there before P!nk and Alanis. But she wasn't. And I still don't think 'I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend' and 'Girlfriend' sound anything alike. They only have one line in common.

Um, they have several lines and the music though dated sounds very similar. It's silly. And the song... I'll say no more.

Ha...sorry, but Pink isn't any legend or anything. She didn't start any trend. Neither did Avril, Kelly, or anyone else mentioned, but really..

As a Pink fan, Pink's music at the time of pop/rock in the 2000's being popular, was really dance-pop. "There You Go" and "Most Girls." I hate the new crap Pink put out...this whole 'I'm Not Dead' albm was a dissapointment for me. Also Anastacia really started thev 'sprock' sound that Pink now uses...

^This is not Pink's thread so I have no idea what you are talking about. And There You Go is R&B produced by LA Reid. Anastacia did not start anything so thats just ridiculous. Thats a joke. She is not even mainstream in the US. Nobody knows who she is. Im Not Dead is still one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2006 and her best work to date.Cant Take Me Home which had TYG and MG was released when Pink had no say or little to no say. k now that's out the way.
As I said there will be no case to win because Avril will settle and pay up because she's worried about damaging her reputation with this case drawing out and attracting media attention. I am sure her legal advisor will advise that because whether she wins or not, it is still causing debatable negative attention which she does not want.

Well that doesn't mean P!nk couldn't have copied her. I honestly don't think she did, but that doesn't mean anything. Nobody knows who the Rubinoos are either lmao.

I never said Pink didnt copy her. I am not even defending Pink because nobody has accused her of anything. I was saying that the discussion is about mainstream artists in the US not random international artists.

Oh sorry I didn't get it right then. I assumed since he said "Also Anastacia really started the 'sprock' sound that Pink now uses..." you said it was impossible because she wasn't famous here - which is why it made no sense to me. Sorry lol.

This bullet is really starting to drop, I don't think this song is strong enough to go Top 10, it is really lyrically bad as much as I find Avril's music usually catchy.

Dont jynx it Obviously this isnt the best song in the world and she is not trying to showcase the best of the best of the world's songwritting skills. But this song is beautiful and it has an amazing broad appeal. Doesnt matter who you are, it reaches you. Even if this 'flop' on the USA radios, it is doing its thang all around the world. TOP10 all around Europe and has jsut reached #3 in the UK this weekend. Smash! Still I think this have a long life ahead in the USA radios. This is too good to just be skipped, plus, you cant have a better sounding and friendly song like this. This is instant radio-friendly

That's what I predicted - I think the 3 Doors Down "concept" similarity really hurt her (I know the songs don't sound the same, but the video is proof that the concept is borderline rip-off) No offense to A. L. - her past songs have been great!! (or at least I respected them)

It's perfectly normal that the song is slowing down a little at this moment. It just went for adds and a ballad normally doesn't rocket up the chart.
