Thank you for that information on the manager's role Music4aw. It was an interesting read. You're welcome, neverafan. :) Big changes are happening in the music business due to the internet. It won't happen overnight, but I believe record producers won't be as important in the future as they have been up to now.

Cool - Cry made the album! Confirmed tracks: My Life Would Suck Without You I Do Not Hook Up All I Ever Wanted Why You Wanna Bring Me Down Save You Cry If No One Will Listen I really want to hear that Eurythmics/Killers song that Kelly and Ryan did. It sounds really cool. Which one is it? Sounds very cool.

Thanks for the link to the interview six! A waltz style song. Sounds like it will be a pretty song. I believe "Breakaway", the song, is a waltz. Eurythmics meets Killers sound awesome!

Its hard to predict the 1st week sales of AIEW. If she appears on American Idol that week of the cd release (which I think she will) she could open with 400k or more. I expect at least beating Thankfuls 1st week. I highly doubt we will see 400k. I am one of the biggest fans of Kelly but I would be happy just to see her open with more than 200k, since the tanking of the last album won't help

Music sales in general are way down from even a year ago. For example, HDD predicts that Bruce Springsteen's new album will debut in #1 next week with around 250K sold. If Kelly's album can sell around that amount her first week, it should debut solidly in #1. Going by the Album Release thread here on Pulse ( pulsemusic.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=gmn&action=display&thread=79656&page=1 ), the only other artists releasing albums the same week as Kelly are: Corbin Bleu - Speed Of Light Chris Cornell - Scream New Found Glory - Not Without A Fight Kelly Clarkson - All I Ever Wanted Taylor Hicks - The Distance Kid Rock - Rock N Roll Jesus (VH-1 Storytellers) (CD/DVD) Does anyone here think Kelly would have competition for #1 from those artists? Asking seriously. BTW, if Kelly does debut in #1, she would have a good chance to hold #1 for at least one more week, because only Gabriella Cilmi is releasing an album the week of Mar. 17.

your avatar is perfect i love it Kelly will debut #1 by looking at your list. U 2's second week would be pretty big, but i dont think it will be a threat.
I really cant tell how big her first week sale is going to be. MLWSWY digital first week number really surpassed my expectation, by a HUGE margin , which is very promising. Although 99 cent single and a $12 album is completly different situation. Kelly also is coming off My December. Im guessing Kelly would have to release one or a couple more hit singles to gain back the trust of casual music buyer. No offense kelly fans. When i gave all my friends the first listen of MLWSWY, most of them were "Is this new stuff good, is it like her last one?". they are pretty cautious with this new era. But this theory might be false since MLWSWY sold HUGE digitally out of the box so it's def interesting to see, hopefully MLWSWY continues its climb to the top of the pop chart and becoming a solid airplay smash. Hot 100 #1 jump is certainly a nice start up! =) i would think thaT kelly would def outsell funhouse first week, but not on the level of britney and beyonce 500K. 300-350K seems reasonable, maybe 400K top if MLWSWY turns out super HUGE

I know I'm stating the obvious, but it just depends on how strong they debut, and how much their sales fall off in the 2nd week. Kelly's album drops in less than six weeks! Whooohooo

I'm expecting 300-350K in this non-holiday recession market. FYI: :)

If Carrie can sell over 500k debut week, I think Kelly will definetly sell at least 400k, maybe even more, depending on the buzz that the album reviews generate, etc. It is a slow time of year for sales though, so that might cause it to dip below 400k, but I still think she can do it. I think she is going to do really well. :) I have a good feeling. It should go 3x platinum easily.

I do not think Carrie's sales from October 2007 before the holidays or Taylor's pre-holiday sales from November 2008 can be used to determine Kelly's sales. First, in Carrie's case, sales 1.5 years before Kelly's record drops with the now rapid decline in album sales in a post-holiday, post-recession economy are very different. In Taylor's case, she has a wider audience (country/pop/more tweens and teens) and hence more sales. I forsee a lower opening week than you in the neighourhood of 300K but if she continues to have successful singles, 2.5-3 million total sales seems to be a possibility at best, IMO. I must say I claim lots of ignorance to all of the factours that involved in sales.

Hey six, you know that photoshopped to death girl that is on the single cover, doesn't she look EXACTLY like the real live girl in your avatar...lol. That is what I was thinking! Pretty interesting!! Thanks so much for explaining...that makes sense to me now..sorry I was a dingbat!! I have a question.....what is a good indicator on how good an album will open? Would it be the indictor on how the last album did OR how well the current single/promo is going? Because now that I remember Brit's numbers, Blackout did ABOUT the same as MD, probably better, I don't know the exact numbers.......But Brit had a really hot single and her album debuted with high numbers...so just curious here. To me I am more of a longevity vs. huge opening numbers so I don't really pay TOO much attention on opening numbers!

^Neally, you may be right that I over-estimated the first week sales a bit. By Album 3 or Album 4, some of the "newness" hype of being the New Hot It Girl has worn off. Carrie will likely also see much lower opening week numbers when her album comes out this fall, for that same reason. Alot of people follow the crowd and buy an album because everyone else is buying it. Once the newness mania wears down, you are left to your die hard fans, casual fans, and new fans that you pick up. But you lose some of the teen fan base, which is what happened to Carrie I think on Carnival Ride. Teens are fickle and go with what or who is hot at that moment. The teens usually buy albums because their friends did. Adults tend to be more loyal and picky in their tastes. JMO
But I think that long term, this is an advantage that Kelly/Carrie has over teen fads, because most of Kelly/Carrie's fans are college kids and adults, with some tween fans as well. The adult fans will stick by them through the course of their careers, and remain loyal, because adults generally do not follow teen fads that fade out as quickly as they burned. Kelly will be here for the long haul, I think.

I don't think Kelly will sell 400k, she will for sure sell 200k atleast, it will be interesting to see what the promo is like the week of her release, she has no real competition so she should be everywhere

The teens usually buy albums because their friends did. Adults tend to be more loyal and picky in their tastes. JMO But I think that long term, this is an advantage that Kelly/Carrie has over someone like Taylor or Hanna Montana, because most of Kelly/Carrie's fans are college kids and adults, with some tween fans as well. The adult fans will stick by them through the course of their careers, and remain loyal, because adults generally do not follow teen fads that fade out as quickly as they burned. Kelly will be here for the long haul, I think, so even if her opening week numbers are lower then Hanna Montana's (lol) or the Jonas Brothers/Taylor Swift, etc., she will sell more then them over a long, successful, sustained career, whereas JoBros/Miley/Taylor will all burn out once the teens move on to the next hot thing. I think you're underestimating Taylor by just a bit, since her fan-base is pretty huge, it goes from tweens to adults. but whatever, I won't waste my time to discredit your opinion, just cuz Taylor sold HUGE numbers. this is the kelly thread, and please stick to kelly here.

Guys, do you know why we still don't have a preorder for Itunes? I was kinda hoping we'd get another bonus track if we preorder from Itunes.

Taylor is also country and gets the country sales, so you can't really compare her and Kelly at all.

^ ^I wasn't trying to slam anyone. I was just being honest that Kelly has alot more adult fans then the teen acts do, which is a fact. That is a good thing for Kelly in the long run. That is all I meant. Sorry if I opened Pandora's box. I was just trying to compare Kelly's potential sales with other female solo acts out there right now that are also selling big numbers. Taylor is actually officially releasing a re-mixed pop album internationally, so she will be competing directly with Kelly's overseas sales on the worldwide pop charts. So That is why her sales numbers were relevant to Kelly's.
I still think Kelly will do really well. This song is getting a TON of hype.

I think they do pre-order for most major artist albums. Usually just a bonus track or a remix or two. Maybe it will happen this week.

In her latest interview posted in this thread, she said she's about to listen to 2 more tracks that were just mixed. I'm sure it'll be available for pre-order once they make their finishing touches.

soooo i hope AIEW debuts at #1 with 300K at least and goes to sell 2+million, lets face it 2million copies of an album nowadays is like 5million a few years ago (obviosly since 2+ million was enough to end 2008 year end albums chart..or was it Billboard year end...one of those ) I honestly hope she just has a great year, and unfourtunately sales and charts determine that to some people...but everything about this era so far has been 1000000000000000000X times better then the beginning of any of the previous eras so thats a plus! Anyone hear that radio interview where the psychic was like, "Kelly if you thought those past years were big, wait, 2009 is going to be your biggest career year"...i was like yaaa right, but since then the song has blown up on radio, video is great and teh song went #1...its starting out to be the biggest year of her career so far....Good for her!

Nice review from a UK site called UnrealityUk. music.unrealitytv.co.uk/kelly-clarkson-my-life-would-suck-without-you-single-review/Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You - Single Review January 28th, 2009 by Gerard McGarry. Tags: 2009, Kelly Clarkson It’s interesting to note when writing this particular single review that Kelly Clarkson had a brief career as a vacuum cleaner salesperson. You have to wonder if she wrote My Life Would Suck Without You with her old job in mind… After all the rumours that Kelly was heading for a career in country music, it’s refreshing to see that she’s actually returned to her musical roots. My Life Would Suck is a slab of power pop/rock that many reviewers are comparing to classic Clarkson songs like Since U Been Gone. But this is what Kelly does best - huge sounding tunes with that quiet verse, massive chorus dynamic. Perfect for another video full of overexcited people jumping up and down while Kelly tears up the stage. To be honest, the release of this tune has been the biggest tease of the last few months. We’ve been drip-fed details. We still haven’t seen the video! All that will be put to rest as the video apparently gets it’s premiere on American Idol tonight, which will give it another massive publicity boost. If you were one of those naysayers who was declaring Kelly Clarkson dead in the water a few months ago, you might be kicking yourself about now. This will be one of the most astonishing comebacks of 2009. Wait and see.

plus, there are 4 songs she worked with Ryan. New Access Hollywood video of Ryan Tedder 1/31/09. He talks about his work with Kelly and says one of his favorite songs -- one of the top two or three songs he ever did in his life -- is on Kelly's album. He says he couldn't be more proud and is giddy about the "stuff" he did with Kelly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnPiVekbbRg
