And about the band, I think it's because it was recorded on a frickin' digital camera, with crappy audio. Most likely the bass was cut out, because that's what little digi cam's do so it won't be distorted, and I could hardly hear the keyboard. That was probably cut out too. Of course it's going to sound thin with two of the main instruments missing. If we heard it there live or if it had been recorded from the sound board it would sound completely different.

Thanks for bringing that over. I'm so happy to see Kelly again and for a first concert I thought she did a great job. This is going to be such a fun song for her to perform on tour.

For just about every song of Kelly's, I prefer the way she sings them LIVE to the way she sings them on CD. Don't get me wrong, I like the CD versions, but I find that the songs are better live.
This one will be one of those. I loved that performance!

Hrm. I hope her voice is in better shape by the time the album drops... These vocals aren't cutting it for me to be honest. I'll just chalk it up to partying in the Bahamas for now. ;)

Her voice right now is as amazing as ever. And I'm sure you were joking about the partying bit because Kelly is too professional for that kind of nonsense. :o |

MLWSWY: It was a decent performance, but I'm not a fan of the lower key either. On the otherhand, the crowd was really into it, so I think the performance worked for the venue. It usually takes a couple of performances before I love a new single live (with the exception of NA, I loved that live on the first day).
Loved: new BD, Chivas, WA, Addicted (loved hearing this live again), HIF, & BOY
It wasn't her best vocal (especially compared to some 2W2V performances), but I think she still did great. I expect she'll improve as she eases back into performing, this was after all, her first concert with her band.

jinxed's audio is great!! MLWSWY especially sounds so much fuller with better quality audio that lets you hear the full band.
I don't get the comments that Kelly didn't sound that great. I thought she sounded awesome and very strong. She ran out of breath at the end of SUBG and was puffing as she was talking before Chivas, but when it came to singing the song she sounded perfect. I don't know how she does that.

Vocals were ok, she looked like she was having fun. But the music just doesnt sound right, they seem to of made it more rock/pop and took out the dance element it had. i'm glad. pop/rock>dance (IMO) I agree with that also...anyway, her live performances of songs almost always have a rockier edge when the song calls for it obviously!  I have to say, her voice sounds pretty damn good for singing this live only like the second time, or is this the first? Anyway, very strong, you can tell her voice has stayed strong. By the way Music.....if you EVER get the chance to see Kelly live, man, it is an experience. And I have only seen her once. The Express has some pretty decent audio on live performance over there, that is how I mainly hear the live stuff. Man, some of you are really tough critics! |

Oh, I just wanted to add in the whole live vs. recorded fun debate we have going on.....
I think it depends on what a person's particular genre of music is.
Some genres prefer live because it gives the essence of an artist/band.
Some genres prefer recorded because some genres have generic sound that doesn't transfer well live.
I think Idol has helped change this alittle bit though over the years. Not one of the elements mentioned though when talking about Idol changing the music biz.

It's too simple for me and imagine singing it? It is so monotone and stiff.

Well, I certainly take back and eat my lazy/EMO comments about Kellys 'Life Would Suck' performance. After listening to theHQ audio, one can hear that Kelly was in no way lazy with the verses as I originally thought. In fact, for a fan-based intimate performance of a new song and all that jumping around, she was incredibly awesome. I as even more impressed with the richness of her vocals in general even while rocking out her poppier songs, especially the new 'Beautiful Disaster'- that was pretty brilliant ! I don't mind the half step lower key that she sings 'Life Would Suck' in because it allows her to more freely sing the very high background/harmonizing vocals in the last chrous, which to my ears are at F#5-G5 live compared to a G5-G#5 on the original recording (someone correct me if my ears are incorrect). I can not wait until she performs this (and other) song(s) for nationwide audiences during her proper promo that she must have lined up for her in the next few weeks of her peri-release period. I love the song, but I think it's her least "vocally challenging" single to date. Nothing wrong with that! It's catchy, cute, and fun, and not every Kelly song needs to demonstrate her amazing range. That being said, I don't think I like it as much a half step lower. It's probably to save her voice, but since it isn't that hard of a song for her (by comparison to her other stuff), I'm not sure why she did it. Hopefully it won't stay like that for promos. I hate to sound like a bad fan, but I was hoping for a slightly cleaner performance for the new single. It came at the end of a mini concert though, and she was bouncing all around, so I don't blame her. I just hope that when she starts singing for all the promos it's a little cleaner. Her voice was impeccable for most of the tour shows with Reba, and it made me thing she has learned how to use her voice on tour/strengthened it enough to hold up. I'm really excited for the album! I guess I'm one of the few on here that hasn't listened to any of the demos--I'm waiting for the real thing! |
