LOVE THIS SONG! I saw them sing it on Opry Live last week and started emailing my local station immediately.
I loved Chicken Fried, too so I'm very glad to see such an awesome follow-up song.

i just found out that most of this album was recorded in the Bahamas......that explains a little bit of the "island feel" to many of the songs :)

If they have more songs like this then I look forward to hearing the album :) LoL you should hear the album...you just might fall over when you hear how different each song is! everything from pure island reggae to serious bluegrass, then back to acoustic!!! Take a listen when you get a chance... ;) Definitely diverse. I really like it though I think it shows off how multi-talented they are! There one of my favorites in country these days, there debut was fantastic!

That's great to hear -- also, "Whatever It Is" is now in the top 20 on Mediabase.

I didn't like "Chicken Fried" that much because it was a "list song", and while the band certainly deserves credit for writing one that doesn't have that in-your-face feel musically with loud, rambunctious guitars and nonsensical lyrics, it was STILL a song that was pandering to all the primary stereotypes of what it is to be "country", and I believe THAT is the main reason why that song was a hit.
Having said that, I LOVE most the rest of their debut major label album, and "Whatever It Is" is an excellent follow-up that I hope also tops the chart to prove that you don't have to pander to deliver quality smash hits. I also expect "Toes" to be released afterward, then possibly "Free" or "Highway 20 Ride" (although it is likely "Different Kind of Fine" will get single treatment instead)
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I really like "Highway 20 Ride".....i'm not sure if it will get released, but I sure hope it does. That is among the best current country recordings I've heard in all recent memory. My guess is "Toes" will be the third single (partly because it reflects the reality that most are cutting back on vacations and the song ends on a positive vibe in that you can enjoy the good life beside a lake in your lawn chair instead of on a tropical island) but the fourth single could be one of several cuts. "Different Kind of Fine" is the other song on the album that kind of panders to the country image, and might make the most obvious commercial choice. However, "Highway 20 Ride" is both a critical and fan favorite, and "Free" is just as radio-accessible as a ballad. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

"Toes" just showed up on iTunes top country songs. Did they perform this on TV somewhere?

i'm not sure, but I think for "Toes" to become a single, they would probably have to make an edited version of it.
I seriously can't remember a popular country band that has the variety of music that ranges from "Chicken Fried" and "Whatever It Is", to full blown bluegrass ("Mary"), pure island reggae ("Where The Boat Leaves From"), and stripped down acoustic ("Highway 20 Ride"). It's amazing...to have all of that on one CD!!!

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see ZBB release "Where The Boat Leaves From" instead of "Toes" due to the word "Ass" being repeated over and over again. I do love "HW 20 Ride" and also like the cover of "Jolene" too.

to be honest their entire album is amazing, I think its obvious 'Toes' is next but I really dont care what they release. I expect 'Toes' to become a crossover/worldwide smash just like the Kid Rock song was last year. These guys are just beginning.

They'll have to edit the language in "toes", and i'm not sure if it'll still be summer by the time it gets released..........but yeah, these guys are amazing!

Its duration is suited well for radio as it is, and nothing else in the song slows the whole of it down. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

"All Summer Long" was a major hit because it directly borrowed (I'd even say stole) two previous classics that everyone is familiar with, so was immediately accessible. "Toes", however, is all-original, and although very reminiscent of classic Jimmy Buffett, Buffett has never been a major airplay artist anyway, thriving instead commercially on the strength of touring and cult status. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I agree with you Noah. I do not believe Toes would crossover to another format. I do however think that if it were a single it would garner the same popularity Chicken Fried seems to have developed to those outside the country world.

Yes, but that's the point with the song, the 'ass' word would have to be replaced with some other word and I don't think "butt" would fit the lyric. It's not like "Country Star" where Pat changed "Gotta get my ass to Nashville" and changed it to "Gotta get myself to Nashville."

is ass offensive? I really dont think so, its not meant in any offensive way in this song. it would be the same as me singing about my female dog and referring to her as a bitch, not offensive.

^ and lol, what a pointless sensorship> It makes it very obvious what the word is, if someone is to use the word in an offensive manner then they will get banned anyway so why sensor the word?

why not, lol, and yes without an edit it would likely be too offensive to play on many country stations.

^ well that is just lame in my opinion. Some people are too conservative. How is the word 'ass' offensive when Kenny Chesney (even George Strait) have been having hits about one night stands and casual sexual encounters for years??? its total double standards.
Also, whether this song has crossover success mostly depends on whether the label push for that or not, cos the lead singer has a very 'crossover-able' vocal. :)

I was going to make a comment about Toes, everyone is all it needs to be edit. If you think about it a few years ago Sugarland put a song out with the word asses in it and they didn't edit it. No one complained about it either. I don't think Toes is that bad and the edit wouldn't make a ton of sense either in my mind.
Back to the topic of the the song. This song is really growing on me. Just like Chicken Fried too

^2006 was the year of the ass. We had "ass" uncensored in "Down in Mississippi (Up to No Good)", "How 'Bout You", and even "Kiss My Country Ass".

^ didn't All Summer Long go top 10? 'we were smoking funny things, making love down by the lake' I'd prefer my kids to hear about a guy with his ass in the sand than a guy smoking funny things/having outdoor sex - to be perfectly honest.

it peaked at #3 i believe. 57 spots too high i remember disliking "Toes" along with most of the album other than "Chicken Fried" and "Where The Boat Leaves From", but now i love "Whatever It Is" so maybe i will like it if i hear it again.
