^ didn't All Summer Long go top 10? 'we were smoking funny things, making love down by the lake' I'd prefer my kids to hear about a guy with his ass in the sand than a guy smoking funny things/having outdoor sex - to be perfectly honest. Each of those songs were edited for all the local radio stations up here in Connecticut. There are plenty of country songs in the past about "making love", because it goes right over the heads of most young kids. Actually even Lady Antebellum's "Looking For A Good Time" was edited on most radio stations around here -- "would you get the wrong impression if i (asked you to dance) right now"

and dont forget Taylor Swift's "i'll tell mine you're gay" change to "don't care what i say" or something like that.
changes like that are very uneccessary IMO.

I think radio edits in general are unnecessary. They usually only shave off 5-10 seconds of a song. For instance, "Let Me" removed one instance of the phrase "let me" near the very end; "Chicken Fried" took out four bars of the fiddle/guitar part before verse 3; "What Do Ya Think About That" took out three bars before verse 2 and one instance of "what do ya think about that" near the end (I know, it sounds like a lot, but that only snips off about 10 seconds at the most); "I Told You So" truncated the drum beats on the bridge and snipped about 3 seconds from the fadeout (making for a very awkward overdub in the process); etc. etc. It's hardly a new concept, either; "Maybe It Was Memphis" traded the guitar solo for a steel solo that's only 5 seconds shorter (and that throws the song out of 4/4 time for a bar), then looped the chorus instead of using the fade-out that the album version uses. All the hacking they did to this song saved it maybe 10 seconds.
It's even worse when they have to hack the song to bits to get a radio edit. "Gone" was terribly butchered by truncating the Hammond solo before the final chorus, using at least two glaring overdubs to shorten the fadeout, and Eddie's backing vocals being clumsily looped in over the existing background singers. Sure, the album version is 4:12, but there are plenty of four- to four-and-a-half-minute songs that get heavy rotation without a radio edit ("Small Town Southern Man", "Letter to Me" and "Already Gone" are in the 4:35-4:40 range).
Lyrical tweaks don't help much, especially not in cases where they're flat out baffling. (Lady Antebellum, I'm looking at you. And your cab driver.) Even more unusual is when the radio edit has a change that doesn't affect the time; "Letter to Me"'s radio edit omits the extra falsetto "to meeeeeee" at the end, although this is simply a case of nixing the vocal track instead of snipping the song.
In short: I don't think there should even be an edit, unless maybe the song has one of the nastier four-letter words or happens to be some rambling, eight-minute whatchamacallit. Little bitty snips don't really help much.

^ plus you gotta remember that these kids are going out and buying the full albums anyway, and then hearing the full versions. Its not like Taylor Swift or Zac Brown come with a warning sticker, and rightly so, as there is no need for one.

"All Summer Long" was edited? Here in Spain, and all over Europe, it wasn't.

"All Summer Long" was edited? Here in Spain, and all over Europe, it wasn't. I never heard it edited either. I don't think "Toes" would necessarily need an edit, although it might be smart to provide one for more conservative stations. I don't think Toby Keith's "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue" had an edit, and that went to #1.

^ more established artists such as toby have more power when it comes to that kind of stuff.
i think zac brown band would need to have two versions provided, as you recommended...

You forget that Toby's song had a spirit that even those 'conservative' stations would play regardless of it having the word 'ass' in it.

i forgot that taylor swift also had an edit with Teardrops on My Guitar -- "I laugh 'cause he's just SO funny" -- but I think that edit was a good move.

I never noticed that, maybe because I use to listen the pop mix the most and that was edited, so I never noticed the original. I checked and the International Mix, included on the international editionof "Fearless", is also edited.

This single is really striding up the chart now, after moving rather slowly most of its earlier run.
I had begun to wonder if the video was hurting the single somewhat, given it is indeed on the sensual side and may not have sat easily for certain country listeners who had admired the band for sounding home-grown and authentic but nonetheless was turned off in a way by, in their view, capitalizing on the same sort of pointless sensuality that speckles a lot of country videos these days.
That doesn't seem to be the case, fortunately, and it looks like they have another major hit on their hands.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Well, they're doing solid enough. I was worried for a while that this would be so overshadowed by the monster "Chicken Fried", and it did slow down for quite a while, but I think they could easily get another Top 10.

Yeah, it's really moving up the charts quickly now......I'm guessing it most likely will peak in the top 5 somewhere.

^"I laugh 'cause it's so damn funny" was the original lyric. lol, damn isn't considered a curse outside the US. But then again the word 'fanny' isnt a curse in the US but it is not a word that we say in public in UK ;)

Pipi: Aren't you Brits more liberal with the F-word too? I know someone told me that you can get away without bleeping that word on TV.
Joey: Up 9 in the past two weeks on Billboard (23-18-14). I, too, am glad that this is finally taking off.

It's weird because I heard that they already announced "Toes" as the third single. "Whatever It Is" could easily be a top 5 i think pretty soon...

Depending on how Brad, Kenny, etc. perform with their latest, it might even be in the running for another #1.

Believe me.............I have vacationed there! ;) The Gallagher brothers alone from Oasis probably drop the F-bomb an average of 250-500 times per week in interviews! Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Please don't throw rocks at me -- but I very strongly disliked Chicken Fried. When I first heard "Whatever It Is" on my local radio station, I really, really liked it. Almost fell out of my chair when I realized it was from the same group. Hope it does well :) same exact thing for me.
