The songs I have never heard: 38: TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART – NIKKI FRENCH 30: FOREIGNER – UNTIL THE END OF TIME 11: IN THE HOUSE OF STONE AND LIGHT – MARTIN PAGE The song I'm sure I have heard, but that immediately erased itself from my mind, as I don't remember anything about it: 14: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? – DAVE MATTHEWS BAND The song that I, an Eurotrash-worshipping kid, wish had never existed: 37: COTTON EYED JOE – RED NECKS And a few lost gems: 36: HERE AND NOW – LETTERS TO CLEO 29: WONDERFUL – ADAM ANT 25: CANDY MAN – SOUL FOR REAL CHRISTINA AGUILERA It's still a mystery to me how the Human League scored a Top 10 Pop hit nine years after their previous one. And R.I.P. Jade's career, as this was the last week they spent on a the chart. :'(

Are you sure you haven't heard Nicki French's version? It's always been used in TV advertisements, or atleast it used to be featured several years ago. at you putting Aguilera... why not Sammy Davis Jr. instead? ;) Your European location to this day remains a mystery... you're not British, I presume...

I really don't think I have. at you putting Aguilera... why not Sammy Davis Jr. instead? ;) Sammy Dav... Who? That old guy who won lots of Grammys just this year? ??? Your European location to this day remains a mystery... you're not British, I presume... Who wants to know? And why couldn't I be British? Is my English really that bad? :'( ;)

Oh I just noticed the Soul For Real mistake. Will edit now. And I'll just assume that you're from Iceland and as kooky as Emiliana Torrini in her Belgian smash "Jungle Drum".

The comparison couldn't be more off, I guess. But that video is awesome! She has more exhilarating facial expressions than Beyoncé!

This was R&R's CHR/Top 40 chart, right? OK, songs that aren't there:
Montell Jordan, "This Is How We Do It" Adina Howard, "Freak Like Me" The Notorious B.I.G., "Big Poppa" 2Pac, "Dear Mama" Dr. Dre, "Keep Their Heads Ringin'"
And although the first two eventually charted, this just goes to show how, in the long run, Top 40 radio's snubbing of "edgier" Urban music at the time was a mistake.

You're right, by the early '90s, the chart was based on Radio & Records except that the chart still included recurrent tracks as well as deliberately snubbing those harder edge Urban tracks like you stated.

I've only noticed this.
Actually, Casey Kasem's show at that time was called Casey's Top 40. It started in January 1989 and was always based on R&R's CHR/Top 40 chart. AT40 ended its first run in - voilà! - January 1995 on international markets - US broadcast had ceased in August 1994. The AT40 name would be brought back from the dead by March 1998, and would keep using R&R's CHR/Top 40 chart until Casey's departure in early 2005.

Actually Casey departed at the end of '03, allthough his last show (recorded in '03) aired the 1st week of '04. The next week, Seacrest took over an I switched to Rick Dees. Incidently, here is Rick Dees chart from 1 month later, presumably also R&R:
6/3/95 40. TLC, "Creep" 39. Pearl Jam, "Betterman" 38. John B & Babyface, "Someone to love" 37. Steavy B, "Dream about you" 36. Better than ezra, "good" 35. Cheryl Crow, "dyermaker" 34. Deseree, "you gotta be" 33. Collective soul, "December" 32. Madonna, "Take a bow" 31. Adina Howard, "freak like me" 30. Real McCoy, "Another nite" 29. Deseree, "Feels so high" 28. Paula Abdul, "My love is for real" 27. The Rembrandts, "I'll be there for you" 26. Montel Jordan, "This is how we do it" 25. Hooty and the Blowfish, "Hold my hand" 24. Tom petty, "Its good to be king" 23. REM, "Strange currencies" 22. Soul for real, "Candyrain" 21. Annie lennox, "No more I love you's" 20. Human league, "Tell me when" 19. Elton John, "Believe" 18. Adam Ant, "Wonderfull" 17. Martin Page, "In the house of stone an light" 16. TLC, "Red light special" 15. Blues traveler, "Runaround" 14. Cheryl Crow, "Strong Enough" 13. Greenday, "When I come around" 12. Nikki French, "Total eclipse of the heart" 11. Firehouse, "Live my life for you" 10. Dave Mathews band, "What would you say" 9. Live, "Lightning crashes" 8. This was one of the first CT40s I listened to and wrote down. At this point, I had already been hooked. I remember hearing 'Bedtime Story' on there. haha! It didn't click with me for years but now it's one of my favourite Madonna songs.
This era of chart-music will always have a special place in my heart!
In fact, I'm going to make a playlist on my ipod with these songs on it. Well, in this order. hahaha! Way to bring back memories!
