And this is why I will always hate Hinder. Forever and ever. Didn't Buckcherry technically start this trend? Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Never mind, I just read deeper down Page 1!
I see what you mean though. Buckcherry was already writing those kind of concise, party-rock anthems in the vein of AC/DC and like bands well before "Crazy B" was released and, if Josh Todd is being mostly truthful, they are simply trying to help shift Rock radio back to where it was before grunge conquered the mainstream, where Todd has yearned repeatedly that it took all the fun and rawness out of Rock music. Buckcherry have great credibility in that regard.
Hinder, on the other hand, are a faceless group that seems to write everything in their catalog from well-established rock stereotypes and VH1 specials rather than from the heart.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It's a personal matter for me. Personally I find that lifestyle really disgusting on a base level, and I can't really approve of how it's filtering through rock currently. It's not why I got into music. And it really irks me that several bands I really love are now turning to this kind of fad to score more hits. Papa Roach and Nickelback both are no longer the bands I enjoyed, and it frustrates me a little bit, because I do find that lifestyle so nauseating. And Hinder just seems to me to be the epitome of that whole train of thought right now. They're not the only band I dislike, but they're the first band I think of as an example. Buckcherry I tolerate because I've heard better from them, you'd really have to hear Josh Todd's solo album to maybe understand. But overall I think songs that glorify the whole club/party/lots of sex/booze hound/get wasted scene are trash, and that scene is trash, and really it just makes me a little bit ashamed of both rock and people that it's so popular right now. I personally agree. I will add, however, that this discussion could be a real slippery slope all the same, for the simple reason that we can never tell exactly whether a band MEANS what they're writing, or are simply trying to write racy, misogynistic anthems that they nonetheless also don't believe in at all. Aerosmith built a career heavily on those same sort of sex-drenched anthems, even when they clearly had a number of hits not on the subject as well. Same with Motley Crue and almost any other major band to reach their peak in fame during the 1980's minus Guns 'N Roses. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Yes, I recognize it's not really a consistent perspective.
Someone tried to point out to me that Hinder doesn't just sing about sex and drinking, they have all of these romance ballads too. To me that's hypocritical. There was a band called the Prom Kings not that long ago, that released an album that was largely the same thing. A lot of party songs and inbetween they had these "heartfelt anthems", and all I could think is, how fake is this? Either you think this girl is the one, or you want a lot of cheap sex, choose one or the other, not both. I dunno, I just really don't get it. I felt dumber for sitting there and trying to accept it, so I decided that I wouldn't.
But then there are bands like Saving Abel, where I can kind of see that they only have one or two songs like that, and the rest are much better at least IMO. So I can kind of be okay with that. Which you know, people might argue, well then why not Hinder? And maybe they'd be right to argue that. I don't believe so though. I think there's a certain level of raunch I can accept, and once you cross that line, you're dead to me. You've become brainless. You've become everything that disgusts me. It makes me angrier that Papa Roach and Nickelback are slowly crossing that line.
So yes, I know, I'm treading a fine line here.

What's that clip from so I can make sure I never accidentally watch that movie in its entirety. Its from the movie Postal by Uwe Boll, the worst director ever!

The person that made that GIF took the scenes of the kids getting shot in Postal and added Steven Seagal shooting bad guys from some other movie to make that clip. But its not like Steven Seagal makes good movies anyways.

Seagal makes movies for him to star in. That's about it.

Based on the lyrics for this, I don't see how this won't end up in the Top 10 of my worst songs for 2009.

This is by far the worst possible choice the band could have chosen for a single. Man, these lyrics just plain out SUCK! I'm definitely not satisfied at overall with Metamorphosis compared to the awesomeness of every other Papa Roach album. I think the only other song I'd be pretty happy if they chose was "Change or Die."

I think the only other song I'd be pretty happy if they chose was "Change or Die." I'm not thrilled with this era of theirs either, even when I've always considered them a generally mediocre band. That said, I knew from the moment I completed my first listen of "Metamorphosis" that "I Almost Told You That I Loved You" would be the follow-up to "Lifeline". It was blatantly tailor-made for the airwaves, to capitalize on the recent misogyny rock trend. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It sucks even more because Jacoby has always struck me as a caring guy in his songs, sissy as that sounds.

It sucks even more because Jacoby has always struck me as a caring guy in his songs, sissy as that sounds. I agree. Both Jacoby Shaddix and Josh Todd sound like stable, open-minded, sensitive individuals from what I've seen in interviews. They also seem naturally upbeat, in contrast to what would seem more chaotic tone-wise in their music (much more Papa Roach in this case than Buckcherry) But we're a high-context culture, with short attention spans compared to many other cultures, and it's the artistic and anthemic output that will decide their legacy, not the skin and bones beneath all the bacchanalia. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

its a simple equation of sex = sales
This song is a dance floor sing along in rock clubs. Again to reference the average music listener that's all they need. I can understand that there is going to be a section of people who are not loving this kind of thing BUT there is probably a much bigger side that do. Probably because they don't take it as seriously as some.
I don't mind the song but that's mostly because I'm not that offended by lyrics like this and I actually like the sound of the song, which is more important to me.

Here's the thing.
By releasing this single, Papa Roach single-handedly prove how unaware that the business has changed. There is no mainstream anymore. The days of radio selling records are almost over. In the age of the Internet, it's all about steadily constructing a fanbase and doing your best to preserve it. These days, if you're going to release something, make sure that it maintains the essence of what made your fans support you in the first place. This song is everything but that. And they are risking two things: incurring the wrath of the core; AND realize that no one outside that core cares.

I've actually kind of wondered how the Papa Roach fanbase is taking their newest album. Cause Papa Roach used to be one of my favorite bands, and they still were all the way up until now. This album is just so half-assed in every way possible. The songs that aren't trying to be cock rock are simply trite. I've only really enjoyed maybe three or four songs on the overall album, which is a shame. I sincerely hope this was just Geffen's doing, and Papa Roach finds a way to leave that label and make themselves great again.

I'm sure Active will eat this right up.
Don't know about Alt. though.

Well, although I'm sure some are likely irked by this gravitation, Papa Roach have, since "Getting Away With Murder" at least, leaned more Active Rock than Alternative, and misogyny is alive and well topically on Active Rock, while it is only achieving limited effect at Alternative presently. I'd say Papa Roach will do just fine through this, given that they don't have any real image as a band anyway and whose strength is by their catalog of hit songs. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Just heard this today. A bit goofy as mentioned here already. Pretty profane, but it will fit nicely on all rock formats.
I'm not sure the band could ask for a better summer hit.

Well, now we know that Jacoby needs to stop hanging around Matt Zane from Society 1.
What a terrible inspiration for a song.

Ugh. I remember when Papa Roach didn't care about being "in your face". Well considering that Metamorphosis is bombing, maybe they'll learn something from this.

I like it better then when they're just trying to sell out to the CHR crowd. Good move for them on this one.
