We already started one for the lead single from Alice In Chains. But it's great news. I am excited to hear the new album coming soon.

Looking forward to this, second most anticipated of the year.

No, actually I already said my most anticipated was Third Eye Blind, but fuck it, you know what, they're all my most anticipated, as a collective, and I will also include Creed in there as well. That's right, I said it. I'm anxious for a new Creed album. What of it, huh? What of it?

Yeah, this was started a while back, but I'm way too unmotivated to go digging. I'm interested to see how Cantrell and the new guy mesh.

Well it turns out the first single is not "A Looking In View" as previously speculated. The first official single is "Check My Brain", which goes for adds in mid-August. However, the song "A Looking In View" can be heard here and can be purchased as a teaser for the album. It sounds f**king awesome. More details as they come. Thanks for the tip. I just downloaded it off a blog because I'm already going to buy the album regardless. I like how the artwork resurrects the old logo. (The '95 s/t didn't have it.) The production is fantastic, I just don't know that it has a strong hook, on first impression. It is 7 minutes long, though, so I'm sure repeated listens will warm it up for me.

That's an amazing track. I wouldn't be surprised if some stations jump the gun and actually play it in full.

Finally heard this last night. It seemed like it was nearly 10 minutes long?

Finally heard this last night. It seemed like it was nearly 10 minutes long? Sometimes, when you listen to a song, there's like, this thing that shows you how long the song is. I know, it's crazy, but like, this is something that has been happening for like, a long time. It's called a songs "length" or run-time...I know unoriginal right? Thank you class, now I believe the song is a little over 7 minutes, but since when has a songs length really even mattered? Just ask Dream Theater.

My station, that is allergic to new music, actually played this. Once. You'd think they'd at least play new AIC. And they did. Once. Anywho, the song sounds ok, but it does drag on a bit.

If you listen on, like, this thing called the radio, it's, you know, inconvenient to, uh, time the whole song yourself. I know, sounds crazy, but it's a device that's, like, totally been around a while and, you know, is pretty popular. Length of a song can influence its radio play. Rock formats are somewhat more open to longer songs, but it's not like there aren't radio edits.

I know that's a NC station that really sucks. Though there's this one rock station in NC that's awesome, WXQR. I don't have very good NC geography though so I have no idea how far that is from your house. XQR basically adds every new active song that goes for adds. It's sweet.

WEND is awesome. WBBB isn't that bad. It's always just done more recurrents than active. Do you think it sucks simply because it doesn't cater to your tastes? WBBB isn't really an active station anyway.

Bingo. Very well done sir. Yeah, it's pretty terrible. If it were 1994, this station would be cutting edge though, I'll give it that. I realize it's not an active station, but it's all I've got out here (Burlington, right smack in the middle of Raleigh and Greensboro). Depending on where I am, I can sometimes get the Charlotte station WEND, and it's my favorite when I'm at home. Is WXQR the 105.5 pure rock station? If so, I listen to that on the way to the beach. Once I get to the beach, I get to listen to my favorite station, Surf 98.3 WSRF Wilmington. I'll never forget when they got "The Diary of Jane" a couple of weeks early (By now you all know I'm a huge Benhead). I had a little radio on the beach that started to lose it's signal. So, in order to hear the song, I had to stand up on a crowded beach with a radio over my head moving my arms to get a clear signal. It was worth it.

Nice jump. But this still does not feel like an Alice In Chains song to me. A nice cover band no doubt. But it's impossible to remake that sound.

Well it's an original song, so the cover band analogy doesn't quite work. Unless you're saying the song sounds like something AIC would write, but it sounds like a band covering them. I'm guessing that's not what you meant though.

I think he's probably just referring to the voice, because apart from that, it is Alice In Chains.

Maybe it's because it's not actually their first official single. Or maybe it's the 7 minute part. While Alice In Chains is an important band, they never had a 7-minute song chart before. Hell, even Green Day tried to release "Jesus Of Suburbia" and they couldn't get any love at radio with it.

While Alice In Chains is an important band, they never had a 7-minute song chart before. There was "Over Now", which wasn't released as a single, was 7 minutes long, and yet peaked at #4 on Mainstream Rock.

Yeah, but it's the first new Chains in years. I'd think Active would love one of their heroes returning.

I think they lost a lot of draw when Layne died. I saw the new AIC in concert a couple years ago and the new guy was good, but they're just not quite the same band anymore. And then there's the whole 7-minute song thing.

There was "Over Now", which wasn't released as a single, was 7 minutes long, and yet peaked at #4 on Mainstream Rock. I've always considered it the last single off the s/t album and/or promoted single/video from their Unplugged album. Even still, I believe at least on the album version, that there was a little bit radio could trim off the beginning and end.
