Again, and read this really carefully, I don't see I Do Not Hook Up as an instant track. You act as if by repeating your opinion that it is will in any way change my view on the song. lol I am not trying to change your opinion you'll believe what you want to regardless, that is not my purpose for engaging in this discussion nor why I am on this message board. I am not trying to write a persuasive essay. When I think of a "grower" I think of a song that takes multiple times to listen to and multiple listens to get so that it can be appreciated. I think of a song that doesn't instantly grab the listener with it's sound, chorus or other aspects of the song. I don't need to like the song for me to think that the track is "instant" an uptempo track more or less is instant, So What is an instant song in that it's production grabs you and makes you pay attention if I like it or not is irrelevant. If I like it or not doesn't really change that it does grab the listener and focus attention on the song. That is what I see as an instant track. That just might be your general listening habits then. When I think of a song that is instant I think of a song that instantly causes people to take notice of when they here it, a song that causes the person to register what they are listening to and cause interest or some reaction to where they recognize they are listening to music. A song that causes a reaction from someone. I am sure the song had some effect on AIEW's sales totals.

It is scary to think IDNHU DID have an effect on AIEW sales. It literally collapsed by 10% or MORE every week IDNHU was out. That means that the "helpful effect" was cutting the losses down to "only" double digit losses every week even as it charged top 10 :X

I am not trying to write a persuasive essay. Then why is it necessary to state that you believe I Do Not Hook Up to be "instant" over and over and over and over and over again? We understood each other's position from the very first moment we read each other's initial comment. There you go; you and I define an "instant" track differently. For me, when I say "the song was instant for me" I mean I loved/liked it from the first time I heard it. Uh, obviously. lol That's sort of why I said "there were songs I couldn't stand at first". Again, different definitions. The amount it did help move is so miniscule it's not even worth mentioning.

I agree, a lot on the album are 'growers" and for me, IDNHU was the one that took the longest to love, but I definitely don't think "already gone' is one of them, I think it's like Suck in that it is instantly great to me- those were the 2 songs I loved immediately- the rest more or less had to grow on me although I did like them. i think this CD is great and i'm pretty fair. I would be the first to slam it if I didn't.

There you go; you and I define an "instant" track differently. For me, when I say "the song was instant for me" I mean I loved/liked it from the first time I heard it. And that's fine, what I disagree with is the statement that the album isn't selling because it's "full of growers", there are (numerous) songs on the album that do grab the listener at first listen. If they like the songs or not are another point entirely. But this disc is not easy listening music, there are tons of songs on the disc that are poppy enough to bait listeners and that meet her target demographic. So I do not think that is a valid reason for why her album is under selling. Her album isn't selling well because her songs are not resonating with the buying public as they did once before (I personally believe that it's because they can sense that this album is basically a parody of Breakaway but I digress). Not because her singles aren't "catchy" or "instant" enough.

Not because her singles aren't "catchy" or "instant" enough. It's all about a difference of opinion. You disagree with mine, that's fine, it doesn't need to be repeated over a series of 45 posts. I believe the album is filled with "growers" and you do not. You believe I Do Not Hook Up was catchy and instant and I do not. See, one post, simple. We could have wrapped up this "discussion" on page 2.

I did not say that I thought "Hook Up" was catchy, I said it's sound was an instant one even though I hated it.

You said, in reference to her less than impressive album sales: You imply her singles (which would be My Life Would Suck Without You and I Do Not Hook Up) are catchy and instant enough to be successful but just didn't hit with audiences. How can you say a song is catchy enough if you don't find it to be catchy at all?

Notice the or there. I don't think IDNHU is catchy personally, but it's sound is an instant one that makes people take notice and people will be vocal with how they fell about it after first listen no two ways about it. MLWSWY is the catchy song there but IDNHU while not catchy is instant. Although I think both are rather weak regarding hooks.

If this doesn't hit it big, then I don't know what (the rest of the album) will.

Hook Up did have an effect on her cd sales. She hadn't seen an increase long before IDNHU was released. She started seeing weekly cd sales decrease before her first single peeked, in other words sales were going down when the first single was still rising on the charts, infact didn't her first single get another life during the run of the second? I remember reading that people felt that's the reason "IDNHU" wasn't doing better because people were still playing "MLWS". Which was strange cuz IDNHU was still top 10 at the time, so it was doing good on radio. She had two simultaneously rising singles at one time during this era. Thus, had they not released IDNHU and had it not gone top 10 on chr, on her first single alone her album would likely be 150 or lower on the 200 at this time because it was already causing cd sales to decrease. So, it did help, even though it never increased her album sales during it's run, it slowed the dropping that MLWS started giving it long before the peak of the song. I think this new single will help too, it might not raise sales much but it never hurts to have a new video and music, that's why no one can seriously say "IDNHU" never helped this album. Any single that goes top 10 with a video has helped the album, that's promo and promo helps. Was it the help it should have gotten? No but it helped nonetheless.

I'm quite pleased with the adds date, but IDHU really killed the album's momentum. Hopefully this can at least revitalize album sales.

LOL at this idea that songs are inherently "instant." Any song can be instant or a "grower" to the ear of the beholder, no one song has a cut and dry definition of being either instant or a grower. Yeesh.

Cry is so HAC. It wouldn't get past #15 on CHR. There is no way that song is more radio-friendly than this.

AG >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Halo Maybe, but Halo came out first And Bleeding Love came out before Halo, and they sounded similar as well. The only part that sounds close to Halo is the beginning.

The people who say this'll flop because of Halo are funny.
Did anyone care that Poker Face, Just Dance and Fire Burning were all extremely similar?

Fire Burning isn't, and I'd say that shares as many similarities to Poker Face as this does to Halo - same style and format, but not a carbon copy.
