That's excellent. Snobbery doesn't get any snobbier than NPR, so that's a milestone.

Holla, I expect to see Kelly getting a lot of press in the coming weeks in 'decade in review' pieces like this one. Hmm, never though about it before, but that should be really good promo!

I'm glad she's been mentioned- she's certainly my favorite artist of the decade.
I don't know about the AMA- I have heard her sing "Already Gone" several different ways live and have liked none of them compared to the actual single, which I adore so I don't think it will give the song that much of a boost.

I agree, I think she should just ignore the "Halo" crap because everyone else has, obviously, seeing how well it's doing on radio, to just perform the album version to be different, it'd be amazing. Wasn't there a link awhile ago floating around where she performed the actual version? Does anyone have it? I want to hear it.

^^ It's a HQ live version of the full instrumental/album version. AMAZING and what most of wish will be the version she will perform this weekend at the AMAs.

Have all of you folks heard the many, many remixes of 'Already Gone'. The "official one" played on the radio a lot is the Bimbo Jones remix (first video below), which was my favourite until I stumbled upon the second video below: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ TheGRAMMYs We have BIG new tomorrow morning! Guess who'll be performing at the GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!!? about 2 hours ago from Tweetie twitter.com/TheGRAMMYs

A HILARIOUS old (but new to me) video: SO AWESOME! haha. She's so sweet. Love that that was before she came over to South Texas to perform.

I really hate when people NEVER perform the album version of a song. Like obviously BOY live is great, but I wish she would sing the whole song once in a while! But she's not the only artists who does it, I'm sure there's some reason. I do hope though that she gets over the Halo thing, as someone said, and performs it for us JUST ONCE in the us as the album version. This song is such a smash live GOD just DO IT ONCE PLEASE!

I can't quote Kelly, cause I don't remember her words... but back in the Breakaway era, she said that the BOY key change sounded really weird live... so they decided to scrap that part of the song from the live performances of the song, even though it's the favorite part of the song of a lot of her fans

^ Yes, it is actually my favorite part. I didn't know about this, though... I though it was only the make the song a little shorter!

When does the key change come in on BOY? I'm trying to remember which part she cuts out...

They mean after the same damn thing in the album version the song picks back up and she belts out the end in a higher key. In the concert versions she almsot whispers the entire chorus towards the end.

Newsweek is running a bunch of Top 10 lists looking back at the decade 2010.newsweek.com/home.htmlOn their list of top 10 cultural moments, Kelly winning Idol is #4, behind only Michael Jackson's death, Letterman returning to the air after 9/11, and the final episode of The Sopranos. 2010.newsweek.com/top-10/cultural-moments/kelly-clarkson-first-american-idol.html#4 Kelly Clarkson Becomes the First 'American Idol' By Jake Tapper Kelly Clarkson was our first. The daughter of a first-grade teacher from Burleson, Texas, she sang “At Last” during her tryout. Throughout the competition she was able to get away with singing “Respect,” “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman,” and “Walk on By” because even if she looked like the innocent cute girl next door, she sounded like an older, wiser woman with baggage and pain. “You’re one of the most natural, great singers I’ve heard in a long time,” Randy Jackson told her. “I truly, truly believe that you are going to be a huge star at the end of this show,” said Simon Cowell, uncharacteristically smitten. Before the competition was over he told her she was in the same league as Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. At the end it came down to her and Justin Guarini. It wasn’t even close. On Sept. 4, 2002, Clarkson won 58 percent of the vote and became the first American Idol, singing “A Moment Like This,” written just for the winner. “I can’t believe it’s happening to me,” she sang, realizing the resonance of the lyrics, squealing, and fanning her face almost as if she was waving away the impact of the moment so she could finish the song. “Some people wait a lifetime for a mom—” she stopped midword, swallowing the emotion. An estimated 50 million viewers watched Clarkson win that night, and in many ways no Idol contestant—not even Carrie Underwood or Taylor Hicks—has come close to her success. Sure, there was the movie From Justin to Kelly, but we’ll forgive her that. Tapper is the senior White House correspondent for ABC News. He blogs at Political Punch. Follow him on Twitter.

As one of the fans on this board that has been with Kelly since AI, I sometimes forget how amazing her road has been. She really deserves every decade related award and recognition coming to her. She started a phenomenon and made a name for herself despite all the naysayers. She faces significant obstacles even today. Kelly stands out from the crowd like no other celebrity out there and I am excited to see this wave of decade recaps continue.

I get chills every time I see the clip of her winning American Idol. She not only started a phenomenon, but also help it gain credibility with the public and critics.
Can't believe it's already been 7 years...

Don't quote me on this either, but I'm pretty sure she's said in an interview that she doesn't like to sing the album version because she feels foolish singing those last few lines ("Because of you I'm ashamed of my life because it's empty...")

She actually did during some portion of her touring for the "Breakaway" album. She said she doesn't like the key-change because it makes the song seem too schmaltzy. Probably the same with the lyrics.

I get chills every time I see the clip of her winning American Idol. I just watched that video again, and I get the same feeling. I'm so damn proud of her. It's cool that they put her winning Idol on that list. The tour resumes tonight, I hope Kelly and her voice are well rested. Can't wait to hear of any changes she might make.
