The Self Magazine photoshop nonsense was actually a featured story with a panel discussion and everything on Good Morning America and the Today Show this morning, as if it was a major breaking news story or something. They said that she refused comment, but RCA put out a terse statement saying they loved the cover. She's kind of in a bad position because she clearly wants to stay on good terms with the Self people, who have had her on their cover three times now (and she's laughed before about being photoshopped) but not undercut the stuff she's said about promoting a positive body image and all that, since she's very sensitive to putting a good message out there for young girls.
I feel bad for Kelly, this should have been a really positive story and good promo from doing a magazine cover, but it seems like she can't turn around these days without kicking up another controversy. I just hope she can continue to laugh this off - Kelly just being Kelly is always the best revenge.
Oh, well. Controversy hasn't killed Britney's career yet, or Mariah's or Madonna's...if nothing else, there really does seem to be an enduring media interest in talking about Kelly, and in the end that's usually better than not being talked about. She's gotten two great promo appearances from GMA already this year, so this seems a small price to pay in return. Now, she needs to get invited to perform on Today!

The Halo/AG controversy has taught me that indeed, no publicity is bad publicity. With her album not selling great it is important to get her name out there in any way. She did no wrong here so this wont hurt her but it does remind people that she has an album out and a new song.

I didn't mean to suggest that Kelly was hypocritical here at all, just that she'd run more of a risk of being seen as such if she stepped in now and said something that came out the wrong way. She's probably best off staying out of this. Of course, Kelly being Kelly, we'll probably hear a taste of what's on her mind between songs at one of her shows this weekend.

WW AIEW droped from est 11.500 copies to 10.000 (1.176.500)
in week 22 (november 29th 2007) My December took a huge leap to 23.650 copies in that week and had an est total of (1.378.150)
so compared to mD the album is about a little over 200K less then MD...thats not too bad considering its doing better on the charts then MD was so its more of a decline in the albums sales as a whole then it is Kelly...i mean look at the US sales...yes the sales are low..but her album is still in the top 80 albums...MD was out of the top 200 despite selling more then AIEW has so far (aboout 36000 copies in week 22 seperate the two...which is about the different in the debut for the albums 291K vs 254K in US...so really the album is selling better then MD)...this is great to see for those fans that worry that its not seling as well as MD...:) cheer up! lol

It's a crime that you can't purchase Fading anywhere. LOL. That is one of the worst songs in her entire catalog. The melody just isn't catchy and her voice sounds ridiculously tired. I think she even "cracks" at one point during it.

From Self Very pretty, and less obviously retouched than the cover. Ironic that the article opens talking photoshop. From the snippets we have seen, it sounds like the whole article is very positive. This whole story got so out of hand...I bet when Kelly was 15 or 16 years old and dreaming of making a living as a singer, her fondest hope was to someday have national TV news programs devoting entire segments to the size of her butt. It's every girl's dream!

I hope no one is blaming Kelly for the Self Magazine thing anywhere. Artists rarely have any control over how much they are shopped. That happens well after the shoot in the editing room.

I don't think I've ever noticed an article that talks about how important it is to accept what God gave you, Mode (not the mag on "Ugly Betty") and BBW magazines had articles like that on a consistent basis. Both of those mags are now out of business.

Kelly Clarkson presents a wide-ranging menu of musicBy David Lindquist In addition to being the gateway to a multiplatinum career, "American Idol" gave Kelly Clarkson freedom. The televised talent search isn't confined to a single musical genre, and Clarkson explored various styles during her Friday night appearance at the Indiana State Fair. Some songs approximated the sensory assault of a rave, while others were tame and unplugged. Clarkson is a master of today's slick pop-rock, yet she turned back the clock to mimic girl groups of the 1960s on new song "I Want You." In the margins between and in the middle of Clarkson's hits, her 11-member band played excerpts of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man," the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams," Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" and Van Halen's "Why Can't This Be Love." No one will accuse the 27-year-old Texan of having elitist tastes, but she's an unabashed fan of music. That's one legacy of "American Idol," which crowned Clarkson as its first champ back in 2002. Unlike episodes of "Idol" that trot out material from various decades, Clarkson is a conduit of her influences, not a slave to them. She's recorded plenty of hit singles, enough to perform "Miss Independent" and "Breakaway" within the show's first six songs and not be out of firepower. Clarkson's latest radio staples -- "My Life Would Suck Without You" and "I Do Not Hook Up" -- owe quite a bit to the gimmicks of slang. "Cry," another selection from current album "All I Ever Wanted," is more of a timeless keeper. Clarkson soared as she belted lyrics based on attempting a brave face while mired in the depths of lost love. As a performer, Clarkson is enthusiastic and active -- certainly not moping about controversy swirling around her retouched photo on the September cover of Self magazine. Her pogo hops during "If I Can't Have You" and "I Do Not Hook Up" complemented the signature rhythmic stomp seen during "Miss Independent." A crowd of fewer than 10,000 left plenty of room to stretch out in the massive Grandstand. The gathering was keen on Clarkson, however, and the hot-air balloons illuminated behind the stage provided a show available only at the fair. www.indystar.com/article/20090815/ENTERTAINMENT/908150439/Clarkson+presents+a+wic-^ranging+menu+of+music

Ha, thanks Focus...I missed that one...
I was just thinking......kind of feeling for Kelly right now in a way....for a girl who doesn't like drama, there sure has been some recently.....first the Halo/AG issue, now the Self magazine......well, Kelly DID stir the pot w/ the Halo/AG thing, didn't she? Ha!
Anyway...this whole Self magazine thing is just crazy.....so many thoughts and opinions on the matter....it seems though that Self really likes Kelly, and I have always enjoyed the previous articles that they have done w/ her. Again, it is better than Elle...
So many things I can say on the matter, but why bother, it ain't gonna make a lick of difference.....as well it shouldn't....watch, in a few months or so, there will be a pic of Kelly looking slimmer or something, and ALL the magazines/public will be like WOW, Kelly lost weight AMAZING! Just ridiculous....

Here's Jenna and Kelly at the MD Tour... and here are Jenn and Kelly last night.. Here's a report about a bit of the banter that happened last night.. LOVE the hair color...

Kelly Clarkson Turns In Solid Performance at the Indiana State FairKelly Clarkson performed at the Indiana State Fair, Indianapolis, Indiana in support of her latest release "All I Ever Wanted" proving why she became the first American Idol in 2002. A completely versatile performer, Clarkson wowed the audience with not only her hits but sprinkled the set with a few surprises. Opening with "All I Ever Wanted," "Miss Independence" and "I Do Not Hook Up," Clarkson started talking and didn't stop. A self proclaimed 'Chatty Cathy" by the end of the set, she finally said "I should just shut up and sing!" Kelly interacted with her audience throughout the entire 90 minute+ set. A fan held a sign "Marry Me" and she replied, "You don't know what you're asking....you wouldn't want to marry me so I have to say no." A teen in the front row was celebrating her 19th birthday and Clarkson led the singing of "Happy Birthday" to Emily. Clarkson covered a few classic tunes too with Rod Stewart's "Some Guys (Girls) Have All the Luck" and a hair-raising rendition of Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight."Clarkson continued with her hits: "Break Away," "Why You Wanna Bring Me Down, " "Because of You,"" Walk Away" and a couple of new songs from her latest release. Clarkson invited Jenna (a familiar fan) to the stage to share the mic on her smash hit "Since You've Been Gone." In addition to a stellar performance, Kelly appeared to be completely comfortable in her skin and warmly welcomed her fans backstage at a meet & great prior to her show. Honestly, this is hard work for a performer night after night but she genuinely reached out to her fans with open arms. Clarkson is on tour through the end of the year so catch a show if you can. www.musicpix.net/home/content/kelly-clarkson-turns-solid-performance-indiana-state-fair-live-photos-tour-schedule

It's a crime that you can't purchase Fading anywhere. Really, really can't get into this song. I've tried, and I'll come back to it...I really think it's one of the weakest she's ever recorded.
