I've been hearing this song on the radio more than her new single. Does anyone know how many spins it's been getting? Why would they continue to play a song that's not even a singe, especially when she has a new single out?

"Diary" has less than 30 spins and "If I Ain't Got You" has 1709 at Urban. ;) I do hope "Diary" is the third single though.

This is currently her second highest ranked song at Urban. It's one of the songs she sings on tour but she also sings "Heartburn," "Karma," and "Dragon Days," so it really doesn't mean anything.

What is it doing on Urban? How many spins does it have? I just heard it again on the radio today. I think that she should release an up-tempo next but it seems as though people are feeling this song. Karma would be a nice third single too. Have you been to the tour?

It only has 39 spins. That still ranks it as her second highest though.

This song is approaching closer to R&R's Urban chart each week.
Most played non-single tracks on The Diary of Alicia Keys.
Diary: 1010 Karma: 30 Heartburn: 28
Then everything else has like 1 and 2 spins. I don't understand why anyone would hope for anything else to be released since radio is obviously extremely interested in "Diary" and doesn't really care for anything else.

I still say release Heartburn or maybe Karma. She needs an uptempo bad and not something that's going to wear off fast like Diary. IIAGY is wearing off. She needs a song that's going to grow on you and last a bit longer, which would be Heartbrun. I can't take hearing another slow song.

well radio is not feeling that. Ballads may wear off on you but it's Alicia's signature.

Have there ever been any who done the opposite and had a hit? That is horrible for her to be known as a ballad artist only. I hate for artists to get stuck like that.

"Toxic" was getting far less airplay before its release than "Outrageous" or "I Got That Boom Boom", but it was still a smash.
I want "Diary" to be a single though, so I hope she goes with it.

That was a smart move by Britney and her record label. I'm for taking chances and even if Heartburn or Karma won't be a hit it's still good to try and release them. If she releases Diary next then that's a wrap for this album but Diary would be a good possibly fourth single for this album instead of Heartburn or Karma being a fourth in the fall.

I can tell you're basing this on your idea that "Heartburn" or "Karma" would be another chart topper for her. If they flop, which is very possible, then the album is a wrap and "Diary" never gets released.
...and as far as "Toxic" goes, it was still getting a decent amount of airplay. The "In The Zone" album was filled with non-singles that were getting radio airplay. "Toxic" was getting more spins a week before it was a single than "Karma" and "Heartburn" combined have got in total since November.

No they don't have to be chart toppers. I think that it's good for an artist to fail every now and then and I hate to think that they are taking the easy route. Another single probably wouldn't get realeased from TDOAK either way because I can't see anything being after Diary, but if that's what the people want then oh well.

"Diary" should definately be the third single. Nothing else on the album is very radio-friendly IMO.
Then I think she should release "So Simple" or "Heartburn" as the fourth single, and wrap this project up.

Some people were at the Today Show this morning in NYC and it seems that they were saying there that Karma's gonna be the third single.
Dunno if it's true or not... we'll see.

It's now #71 at Urban and also has made Rhythmic surprisingly with a bullet of +53 at #131.

Diary is a great song! I wanna see it be the next release! I'm wondering when J Records is planning on announcing her next release! "If I Ain't Got You" is done. "If I Ain't Got You" was announced as the second single when "You Don't Know My Name" was only halfway to it's peak.

I hope this blows up at Urban. It deserves to score Alicia her fourth chart topper (which it will on my personal chart). This is probably my favorite Alicia song ever.

It's a great great song
I love the haunting sort of vibe it has.
Sure it's not what you think of when you think summer single, but ah well.
It's hot, I like it
