.1....4....4...The Gift of Love - Bette Midler That is a great song to have as your final number one. My chart had become increasingly country by this time. Looking back, I would have charted Jackson Browne if I had been familiar with it at the time. UU-BRU Radio Playlist For Week Ending August 31, 1991 29 32 Bette Midler The Gift Of Love Wonderful to see the Bette Midler song on someone else's chart! Your comment about it being a great song to be my final number one was something I never thought of before, but it actually was ironic considering what was happening in my life at that time. Yes, I could definitely see country music really infiltrating your chart at this time. Interesting to see this transition occurring because you continued to chart the pop, rock, and rap songs of the day. Reba & Guns N Roses on the same chart is quite a contrast. And 10 years later Stevie Nicks is still winning the highest debut award.

Rob's Top 30 -- October 26, 1991 TW LW 2W Wks Song-Artist ** 5 weeks at #1 ** 01 01 01 09 Emotions-Mariah Carey 10 14 23 03 Real Real Real-Jesus Jones 12 20 00 02 Spending My Time-Roxette 29 26 20 23 Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave)-Roxette Looks like a monster #1 for Mariah Carey. Just like Whitney Houston, Mariah didn't fair so well on my chart as she did on the Billboard. But we connected on the Jesus Jones song as it was also making big moves up my chart and I know it would have ultimately reached #1 if I continued charting. And it looks like you were a huge fan of Roxette, which had been a major force on my chart the prior two years.

BRAD'S COUNTDOWNOctober 20-26, 1991LW TW 03 01 SPENDING MY TIME (Roxette) More Roxette appreciation! Also nice diversity in the Top 10. Looks like Top 40 radio had a major influence on your chart as it appears all of your songs are Billboard Top 40 songs.

Garth Brooks and Mark Wahlberg were at #1 and #2 for the third consecutive week. Their songs would also rank #1 and #2 for the year.
Garth Brooks was all over the chart as well. In addition to his songs at #1 and #35, he sang backup on Trisha Yearwood's LWNHABH at #11 and helped Billy Joel's original version of "Shameless" climb to #16 on it's way to the top ten.
Linda Ronstadt debuted high at #20 with the theme to "American Tail 2". Her theme to first "American Tail", "Somewhere Out There", was the #1 song of 1987 on my chart.
The similar titles to the 38 Special/Heart and the Bryan Adams/Simply Red entries stood out at the time.

so much to catch up on Oct 26, 1991 12 11 I Am Here - Grapes of Wrath 07 12 The Sunrise - Triplets 06 13 All I Have - Beth Nielson Chapman 22 14 I'll Repect You - Debbie Johnson 18 28 Gift Of Love - Bette Midler We have some cool connections on our 1991 charts. It was great to see "Sunrise" by the Triplets on your chart since it peaked at #15 on my chart back in August. Sad that this song never made the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Same with the Bette Midler song! Never imagined that three of us would have that on our charts. And the Beth Nielson Chapman song was another obscurity we had in common. The Grapes of Wrath song was an example of the music that got me through the 90's. Alternative music with a psychedelic feel. Very 60's influenced. I was fickle in the 90's with dance music, but the Debbie Johnson song was well done. I'll check out your 80's chart tomorrow.

Without seeing Cesar's chart yet, I think this is the first week our charts have been so different. I'll reply to everyone's chart this evening. I am holding out hope that our resident disco enthusiast will show some love for the Adventures Of Stevie V on his chart. I know that one had me acting like a madman on the dance floor! Just going back to this one....lol. It did better than I thought, 3 weeks at #5

I owned all three albums that contained your three charted album cuts and I enjoyed thoses songs as well. I was surprised to see the Triumph song only moving up one spot since I thought that one might have been a giant on your chart.

UU-BRU Radio Playlist For Week Ending October 26, 1991 01 01 Garth Brooks Shameless 02 02 Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch Good Vibrations 04 04 38 Special The Sound Of Your Voice 16 18 Billy Joel Shameless Garth Brooks and Donnie Wahlberg! Now that's an amazing blend of artists to be at the top of your singles chart for the year. But the most unusual aspect of your chart was having the same song by two different artists on your chart at the same time. I can't think of a time where that ever happened on my chart. I have had a song reach #2 by one singer and #3 by a different singer a year or two later. But never a time where it occurred on the same week. Cool to see .38 Special way up there. Adding Max Carl as the lead vocalist in the late 80's not only gave .38 Special their first top 10 on my chart, but a #1 song with "Second Chance".

Had disco not been shoved off of radio in the early 80's, we certainly would have heard the Voggue single outside of the clubs too. The Pat Benatar album cut was a surprise. Great to see the "More Stars on 45". 1981 was definitely the year of the medley. The Suzie Q song kind of reminds me of "Don't Stop The Music" by Yarbrough & Peoples. I remember when Motown was releasing Diana's old songs as singles after she signed to RCA. I was happy when they finally released "My Old Piano" in 1982 in the USA as it was one of my favorite songs from the 1980 "Diana" LP and allowed it to finally appear on my chart. It was the highest debut ever on my chart.

Woohoo!! Found my old charts! Looks like I was ina very R&B place in 1991..lol 3 4 Blowing Kisses In The Wind - Paula Abdul 13 13 Never Stop - Brand New Heavies You certainly had the groove in 1991! This old body got exhausted just by looking through this chart knowing how I could move to this music for hours on the dance floor back then. The Brand New Heavies was my favorite jam of the bunch from this chart. But still nice to see you made room for the slow jams too. By far my favorite Paula Abdul song of all-time is "Blowing Kisses In The Wind". That would have been a big #1 had I been charting then. From an uptempo perspective, "Crazy Cool" is my favorite. A few on here I am unfamiliar with since I was totally out of music by late 1991, but I will have to check them out.

I think it was overplayed at the time and it started to backfire. their other singles did ok for me. In 1980-1982 i charted album tracks, I quickly stopped by 83. I wanted to have a pure "hits" chart. In fact, when i calcualte my Top Artists, I exclude the album tracks, to be fair.

This weekend's program has been announced! It will be 10/4/1986. In honor of this date, I have changed my avatar to the record that was #1 song on my chart that week. I'll post my entire chart later and look forward to seeing everyone else's chart from that date as well.

The 1960's were alive and well in October 1986 on my chart. The Beatles and Ben E. King were charting with re-releases due to popular soundtracks at the time. T&S was featured in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Back To School". Ben E. King's 1961 hit SBM was featured in the Stephen King film of the same.
Superstars of the 60's themselves, The Beach Boys and Aretha Franklin were also charting with their versions of 1960's hits by The Mamas & The Papas and The Rolling Stones respectively. Meanwhile, Ronnie Spector was at #4 contributing "Be My Baby" to Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight".
The Monkees would debut the following week (10-11-86) with a re-release of their 1967 hit "Daydream Believer" as the followup to their #1 comeback "That Was Then, This Is Now".
Chicago gets an honorable mention with "25 or 6 To 4". Just missing the sixties, the original version was a hit in 1970. Chicago recorded a new version of "25 or 6 To 4" as the first single without Peter Cetera. Meanwhile, their former lead singer was at #1 for the second of 8 weeks with "The Next Time I Fall".
Michael McDonald was on the chart with a solo hit (the former #1 "Sweet Freedom") and as part of a trio with David Pack and James Ingram. He also provided prominent backing vocals on Toto's "I'll Be Over You", in which he also appeared in the music video.
Paul Simon charted three separate times with "You Can Call Me Al". This was his first and best showing, eventually peaking at #10.
Boston's debut at #6 was due to the bootleg that surfaced several years earlier. My local station in Erie, PA ranked "Amanda" as their #1 song of the year in 1980, six years before the official release.

I was kinda all over the place but still mostly a mix of dance and R&B with some pop thrown in.
Madonna debuted with "True Blue", one of only 4 songs of hers not to make the top 20, it eventually peaked at 25.
The Human League were on track to score their second #1 with "Human".
Diana Ross was almost off the chart with "Chain Reaction"...the longest running #1 ever (along with Amber's "One More Night" in 1997) at 17 weeks.

He would debut on my chart 2 weeks later. LOVE the Toto song, it would also debut 2 weeks later. I'm kinda surprised not to see "Captain of Her Heart" on your chart. It almost seems to me like a kind of song you would like, don't mean to stereotype you like that..lol. Just a nice very classy ballad, still love that song. Same goes for "Friends & Lovers" tho that one hasn't aged quite as well for me

Diana Ross was almost off the chart with "Chain Reaction"...the longest running #1 ever (along with Amber's "One More Night" in 1997) at 17 weeks. I have a question for you. Did you chart CR during it's inital run and re-release or was it still charting for you by the time RCA gave it a second chance? You brought up an interesting point about Madonna not making your top 20. Even though TB would peak at #3 on my chart, it was her only single during a 15 song streak (only counting official 45rpm releases) not to make the Top 2 on my chart beginning with "Like A Virgin" and ending with "Cherish". I had to check and see, but "Captain Of Her Heart" never made my chart. "Friends & Lovers" spend a single week at #38 in August.

Janet Jackson was at the top with her third #1 in a row, which was extremely rare for an artist to accomplish on my chart. I never allowed myself to become hyped about an artist. Instead, each song had to "win me over" no matter what the prior history was on an artist. And the fact that all were dance songs made it all the more amazing. Thank you Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for outstanding production work on those tracks. Also notable that her 4th single from the "Control" album (the title cut) only made it to #14. But the 5th single "Let's Wait Awhile" would take her to the top again. Making it the only LP that ever spawned four #1 singles on my chart. And the "Control" album would return to the top of my album chart in it's 47th week. The oldest album ever be at #1.
The obscure former #1 song in this week's chart goes to none other than Barry Manilow with a dance song called "I'm Your Man". It's a melodic beauty with a great beat. It's the only time Barry hit #1 with an uptempo song and the only single from his sole RCA album to reach the Billboard Hot 100 (at #86). Amazing considering it was the third single from his album.

WBRU Radio PlaylistFor Week Ending October 4, 198606 ** Boston Amanda 16 25 Beach Boys California Dreaming 21 18 John Schneider At The Sound Of The Tone 23 32 David Pack/Michael McDonald/James Ingram I Just Can't Let Go 39 ** Chicago 25 Or 6 To 4 (1986 version) I had no idea the Boston song was that old! Unless I did hear it years earlier and didn't think anything of it. Even when the song was officially released, it didn't fair well on my chart, even though I am a fan of the group. Great to see our connection with the Beach Boys song. I love the video they made to it also. And to continue with your 60's connection, you mentioned TWTTIN was a former #1 for the Monkees on your chart. Well, it was their follow-up "Daydream Believer" remix that would do the trick for me as it would be a #1 single on my chart a couple of months later. Okay, this is becoming more than a coincidence now. I think this is like the third time I have seen John Schneider on your chart. Did you have a connection with him, like he was from your area originally? I heard little from him after the early 80's. And finally, great to see our connection with the excellent David Pack song. I was a huge fan of Ambrosia in the 70's.

Excellent song that should have made the top 40 nationally. Double had already fallen off my chart with their first hit and was debuting with their new song. "Woman Of The World", which ended being a much bigger hit for me. I assume you meant Nu Shooz instead of Expose at #7. The Nu Shooz song is a dance classic. The Gloria Loring song had already fallen off my chart. It had spent three weeks at #2 with the Pet Shop Boys keeping it from reachin the top. I still like it today, especially since it did not suffer from being overplayed over the years. I think if I would have heard it regularly since then, I might feel different. I couldn't agree more with your love for the Diana Ross song. I absolutely loved it (it was a #4 song for me back in January) and it also has one of my favorite music videos of all-time. What's ironic about all of the obscure dance songs on your chart is that not one of them is the recently former #1 dance song on my chart "I'm Your Man" by Barry Manilow.

I had to check mine for comparison and it looks like I felt differently about the singles. Even though Janet Jackson did not have a #1 song from "Control", all six singles made the top ten with the title track the most successful, spending the last 5 weeks of 1986 at #2. There was a version lifted from the video on a 12" single that I really liked the best. Her album only made it to #2 in November 1986 as well.

I think this is like the third time I have seen John Schneider on your chart. Did you have a connection with him, like he was from your area originally? I heard little from him after the early 80's. As you know, John Schneider had a couple of national hits in 1981. In 1984, I think he wanted to try to make a serious run as a country act, but radio stations were reluctant to play his music. I remember when "I've Been Around Enough To Know" was sent to country stations in the fall of '84 without his name on the label to avoid any 'Dukes Of Hazard' backlash. Apparently the plan worked, because he made the transition from television to music and collected four #1 songs on Billboard's country chart from 1984 through 1986. After IBAETK went to #1 on my chart, he seemed to continue to do well with each subsequent single release and was a chart mainstay for a few more years.

An interesting tidbit for me on this chart. Only 2 number one songs in my chart history have had two separate chart runs "Edge of Seventeen" from Stevie Nicks....and "Friends and Lovers" from Loria Loring & Carl Anderson. Yup, I was a big Days of our Lives fan back in the day...and this song was performed by the two stars on the show at the time. It rose up the chart on the strength of that...then i was top of the world when it was announced as a single. Down at #31, starting its climb is "Both to Each Other" Eddie Rabbitt and Juice Newton's version of the same song. Yippee!

Looks like we were more connected on the Gloria Loring song than the others, although I have never watched the soap. And I recall I nearly charting the country version as well. Probably what you would call a bubbling under song. I was crazy in love with the original version of "Spirit In The Sky" that I couldn't get into the remake. My guess is that if I had never heard the original I would have been more into the Dr & The Medics version. The Bonnie Tyler song was a surprise as it was pretty much ignored on American radio. And it was also surprising to see Kim Mitchell as the lone Canadian artist on your chart this week.
