5/3/86 LW TW 20 1 ZZTop. Roughboy since i didnt start charting till 1985 offucially, thus there are a few songs from 84 an 83 on here There you are. You missed out on 1988 a few weeks ago. Interesting to see ZZ Top go from the lowest position of your chart to the highest in one week. That song also didn't completely captivate me after the first listen, but with each listen afterwards it really sunk in and ended up being Top 5 on my chart (the biggest single they ever had).

I've had a one month hiatus due to the dates of recent Classic AT40 70/80s broadcasts. Good to get back into posting form. Here's one for this weekend's classic 80's broadcast. It's an extremely volatile week with some big leaps into the top 5. Ambrosia rockets up to #5 with "Biggest Part Of Me" that would become the song of the year and spend 5 weeks at #1, which is the most of any song in my charting years. Looking back at the songs, I see a lot of easy listening, AOR type songs that year. It didn't seem unusual at the time, but now it really seems to stand out. May 10, 1980 TW LW WKS .5...21....3...Biggest Part Of Me - Ambrosia 16...27....4...Heart Hotels - Dan Fogelberg 26...29....5...Lucky Me - Anne Murray I was looking forward to seeing your chart since I knew this week's program was in your charting era. Volatile is an appropriate word. Wow! I thought my chart this week had lots of shifting also, but your chart takes it to a new level. You touched on the number of easy listening songs that were popular at this time. Casey even mentioned this in the 1980 broadcast of the shift from disco to ballads. It may explain why our charts look the way they do. Music was in a transitional period and searching for the hot new genre. Ballads seemed like a safe option to DJs since they never truly disappeared completely from the Top 40, even during the disco era. When I heard "Pop Muzik" and "Funkytown", I thought techno or new wave was going to replace disco as the latest craze. I even mentioned it to my girlfriend at the time. A year or so later she gave me a hard time about how that prediction never didn't materialized (country music had kicked into gear). Great to see "Hearts Hotel" take a big leap since that was a former #1 on my chart. Also nice to see the Anne Murray song on both of our charts since it never made it into AT40. Cool that Ambrosia had a monster song for you since they were a fave of mine from the "Holdin On To Yesterday" era in the 70's.

Although ballads were the craze, I was looking for something more to replace the lack of disco records being played by DJs. I found a replacement with Pat Benatar and Jermaine Jackson. From an A and B side perspective, the Pat Benatar single probably ranks right up there as one of my favorites. The special mix of "We Live For Love" took the song to #1 the following week and the flip side "So Sincere" was one of my favorite LP cuts of the early 80's. In fact, that entire LP was quite good and gave me some much needed musical angst in the midst of all of the easy listening on the radio.
The Jermaine Jackson song helped fill the disco void. As I mentioned in an earlier post, that song would spend 9 weeks at #1, the longest #1 song I ever had. But it's definitely not my favorite song of all-time. It just came at a time when I was craving a powerful dance record and it really satisfied that need.
And one chart oddity to mention. Christopher Cross was in the process of moving back up the chart after originally peaking a month earlier. This only happened a handful of times in my post 70's charts.

5/3/86 * 12 Honeymoon suite. Feel it again * 7 OMD. If you leave 20 1 ZZTop. Roughboy I was really into these 3 songs at the time. I frequently hear the first 2 on oldies stations these days, but hadn't heard Rough Boy for years until last weeks classic 80's countdown. I still think this ballad is a great song which was quite a departure from ZZ Top's hard rocking style. It took quite a leap from the bottom position to top...I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one with these giant weekly gains

Three charts and three different ballads at the top. Nice to see the Bruce Cockburn single so high. Quality song. Interesting to see the B side of "Rock With You" charting. Three MJ songs in one countdown and the #1 album to boot rivals the "Thriller" era successes. And there's the great Pat Benatar LP I mentioned in my earlier post.

02 05 Bruce Cockburn Wondering Where The Lions Are 17 21 Bette Midler The Rose 32 32 Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Here Comes My Girl As of late, you guys have been surpassing me on the Canadian songs. Great to see fine singer/songwriter Bruce Cockburn doing so well on your chart at #2 with "Wondering Where the Lions Are". It was a top 10 hit for me. Bette Midler's The Rose is one of my favourites of all the great ballads during 1980. I was a big Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fan in the early '80s and am glad to see the underrated "Here Comes My Girl" from the "Damn The Torpedoes" album on your chart as it was a great song, but it never made the national Top 40.

.6...13....3...Little Jeannie - Elton John 14...20....3...Steal Away - Robbie Dupree A couple of fast moving songs on your chart that would have long chart runs and end up being number #1's for me. Another of the nice 1980 ballads "Little Jeanie" by Elton John and the very Doobiesque sounding "Steal Away" by Robbie Dupree. Some great memories of the summer of 1980.

This weekend Classic AT40 will air the program from 5/14/1983. Here is my chart from that week:
May 13, 1983
TW LW TTW .1....1....8...Let's Dance - David Bowie .2....4....4...Front Page Story - Neil Diamond .3....3....5...Flashdance...What A Feeling - Irene Cara .4...15....5...Always Something There To Remind Me - Naked Eyes .5....2....9...She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby .6....8....4...My Love - Lionel Richie .7....7...10...I Won't Hold You Back - Toto * .8...12....5...Faithfully - Journey .9...13....4...Reap The Wild Wind - Ultravox 10....5...10...I Don't Care Anymore - Phil Collins * 11...11....6...So Wrong - Patrick Simmons 12...16....5...Fool's Game - Michael Bolton 13....6...14...Old & Wise - Alan Parsons Project * 14....9....9...Welcome To Heartlight - Kenny Loggins 15...21....4...Here We'll Stay - Frida 16...28....2...All My Life - Kenny Rogers 17...29....2...I'm Still Standing - Elton John 18...23....6...Stranger In My House - Ronnie Milsap 19...24....3...Affair Of The Heart - Rick Springfield 20...25....3...Family Man - Hall & Oates 21...10...13...Some Kind Of Friend - Barry Manilow * 22...22....5...Overkill - Men At Work 23...26....3...That's Love - Jim Capaldi 24...30....5...Photograph - Def Leppard 25...27....4...Straight From The Heart - Bryan Adams 26...18....9...Der Kommissar - After The Fire 27..---....1...Wishing - A Flock Of Seagulls 28...31....3...Never Gonna Let You Go - Sergio Mendez 29..---....1...Love On Your Side - Thompson Twins 30..---....1...The One Thing - INXS 31..---....1...Time - Culture Club 32..---....1...White Wedding - Billy Idol 33...33...12...Beat It - Michael Jackson * 34..---....1...Electric Avenue - Eddy Grant 35..---....1...We Two - Little River Band 36..---....1...Full Moon Fire - Walter Egan 37..---....1...Why Me - Planet P 38..---....1...She's A Beauty - Tubes 39...38...11...Whose Gonna Keep Me Warm - Phil Everly 40...34...17...Billie Jean - Michael Jackson *
Top 10 LPs: .1....1....4...Let's Dance - David Bowie ** .2....2....4...Living In Oz - Rick Springfield ** .3....5....3...Flashdance - Soundtrack * .4....4...15...Frontiers - Journey ** .5....7...32...Heartlight - Neil Diamond ** .6....3....8...The Final Cut - Pink Floyd ** .7....6...24...Thriller - Michael Jackson ** .8...11...19...Lionel Richie - Lionel Richie ** .9...10....5...The Golden Age Of Wireless - Thomas Dolby 10....9...24...Here Comes The Night - Barry Manilow **
Ten debut songs is mindboggling, but it was a continued sign of how the first half of 1983 was one of the stronger periods in music for me in the 80's. In fact, three songs on this chart are on my list of "Songs That Should Have Charted Higher". Of course, the reason they didn't chart higher was because of the competition. Those songs are: That's Love - Jim Capaldi (peaked at #15) The One Thing - INXS (peaked at #7) We Two - LRB (peaked at #18)
Also noteworthy is the Michael Bolton song, which was the highest charting song he would ever have. He would never make it past #17 again.

Scandal spent 7 weeks at #2 without reaching number one, the longest run in the runner up spot to date.
At #34 Laura Branigan was charting with the third version of "Der Kommissar" in 1983 following After The Fire and Falco.
There were several "one hit wonders" on my chart at the time including Planet P, Robert Hazard and Wall Of Voodoo. I think each song had a popular video on MTV at the time. Janet Jackson looked like she may only make a single appearance on my chart as well. "Come Give Your Love To Me" was her first appearance, peaking at #10. She wouldn't chart again until 1986.

"Come Give Your Love To Me" was her first appearance, peaking at #10. She wouldn't chart again until 1986. Similar situation with me, but with a different song. Ms Jackson would chart with "Young Love" at the end of 1982 (the prior release to "Come Give Your Love To Me") and she would not chart again until returning with a vengence in 1986.

Nice to see someone else chart that one. "Wishing" would take 6 weeks to reach the top of my chart. Would have also been 4 weeks but two of the songs you listed above (Naked Eyes & Elton John) kept it at #2 for two weeks before it finally moved into the top spot. It was the third #1 single in a row for A Flock Of Seagulls. But they would never reach the Top 10 again.

After numerous Top 10 songs, Kansas would finally reach the number one spot for the very first time the following week. The video to this song definitely had an impact on that accomplishment. And speaking of a stunning video (and song), "Alone Again Or" was also amazing. The Damned's remake of Love's classic song remains one of my favorite singles of the 80's.

After spending 6 weeks at #2 with "Take Me Home Tonight", Eddie Money returned the favor by appearing on Ronnie Spector's "Who Can Sleep". Despite the quick start, their new song would stall at #13.
Debbie Harry would fall off the chart the following week with "In Love With Love", but would later return and make it to #7. At the time I thought this would be the song to return her to the national top 40.
Paul Simon also re-entered the chart with "You Can Call Me Al". He had made it to the top ten when the single was first released in 1986.
Patty Smyth was on her way to another top ten hit with her cover of Tom Wait's "Downtown Train". Even though Rod Stewart took his version to #1 on my chart three years later, I thought Smyth's was better. Bob Seger also recorded a version in 1989, but it remains shelved. Hopefully we will get a chance to hear it someday.

"The River Cried" was also on Patty Smyth's album. I created a "duet" with a mixer. It was rough, but their voices really blended well. I see Jody Watley was moving quickly up your chart. What was the biggest hit from her album? "Still A Thrill" was the least successful for me. #22 Looking For A New Love #26 Still A Thrill #08 Don't You Want Me #02 Some Kind Of Lover #12 Most Of All

Classic AT40 will be airing the program from May 23, 1987 this weekend. Here is my chart from that week: TW LW TTW .8...19....3...Alone - Heart 26...26....4...Should I See - Frozen Ghost Good to see Heart's "Alone" moving up quickly. I still love the haunting, dramatic musical arrangement of the song and think it's one of the great songs of the '80s. Also nice to see on your chart on your chart a Canadian band, Frozen Ghost, that only had minor success in their career, but had at least one very good song with "Should I See". I saw the band's drummer a few times at my bank branch back then while I was depositing my pay cheques..his must have been a lot bigger than mine

UU-BRU Radio Playlist 02 02 Bon Jovi Wanted Dead Or Alive Both you and SoundMag have Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead Or Alive" much higher on your charts than it ever reached on the national chart. Good to see because it's a great underrated tune and one of their best.

This week's SXM AT40 classic countdown is from May 19, 1979, here's my chart for that week.
May 19, 1979
TW LW WKS
.1....2....7...Reunited - Peaches & Herb (1wk at #1) .2....4....8...Goodnight Tonight - Wings .3....1...12...Music Box Dancer - Frank Mills .4....9....9...He's The Greatest Dancer - Sister Sledge .5...21....6...Renegade - Styx .6....7....6...Love Is The Answer - England Dan & John Ford Coley .7....8....9...Blow Away - George Harrison .8...12....7...Shake Your Body Down To The Ground - The Jacksons .9...16....4...Hot Stuff - Donna Summer 10...13....4...Just When I Needed You Most - Randy Van Warmer 11...15....3...The Logical Song - Supertramp 12...14....6...Love Takes Time - Orleans 13...18....5...Dancer - Gino Soccio 14...17....4...Love You Inside Out - The Bee Gees 15....6...15...What A Fool Believes - The Doobie Brothers 16...29....2...Bang A Gong - Witch Queen 17...20....4...Aint Love A Bitch - Rod Stewart 18....5...10...I Want Your Love - Chic 19...27....5...Rock And Roll Fantasy - Bad Company 20....3...12...Stumblin In - Suzi Quatro & Chris Norman 21...21....4...Rhumba Girl - Nicolette Larson 22...23....2...Old Time Rock And Roll - Bob Seger 23...25....5...Disco Nights(Rock Freak) - G.Q. 24...32....3...Such A Woman - Tycoon 25...35....2...Honesty - Billy Joel 26...11....7...In The Navy - The Village People 27...---...1...Let Go The Line - Max Webster 28...19...10...Heart Of Glass - Blondie 29...36....3...Don't You Write Her Off - McGuinn, Clark & Hillman 30...37....2...Hot Number - Foxy 31...40....2...Deeper Than The Night - Olivia Newton John 32...10....8...Take Me Home - Cher 33...---...1...We Are Family - Sister Sledge 34...---...1...I Want You To Want Me - Cheap Trick 35...30...14...Sultans Of Swing - Dire Straits 36...---...1...Good Timin - The Beach Boys 37...---...1...You Take My Breath Away - Rex Smith 38...---...1...Get Used To It - Roger Voudouris 39...24...10...Knock On Wood - Amii Stewart 40...---...1...Chuckie's In Love - Rickie Lee Jones
This is one of the few weeks ever that my #1, "Reunited" by Peaches & Herb, coincided with AT40's #1. Styx's "Renegade" is rocketing into the Top 5, looking like a future #1, but it peaked at #2 and was held out of the top spot by another great '70 's rock band, Bad Company with "Rock & Roll Fantasy". I enjoyed Styx's music from the seventies more than their more radio friendly 80's material. A big transition week near the bottom of the chart with a lot of debut songs that week, 7 in all.

.4....4....5...The River Cried - Russell Hitchcock 11...20....3...Variety Tonight - REO Speedwagon 12...13....6...I Only Wanted You - Marie Osmond 15...16....6...First We'll Take Manhattan - Jennifer Warnes 20...31....2...Still A Thrill - Jody Watley You have some great cuts charting with REO Speedwagon, Marie Osmond and Jennifer Warnes among others. "The River Cried" was also on Patty Smyth's album. I created a "duet" with a mixer. It was rough, but their voices really blended well. I see Jody Watley was moving quickly up your chart. What was the biggest hit from her album? "Still A Thrill" was the least successful for me. #22 Looking For A New Love #26 Still A Thrill #08 Don't You Want Me #02 Some Kind Of Lover #12 Most Of All Yes, those were real quality songs that should have done better nationally. The duet you created was a great idea because I can imagine how well their voices sounded together. And it really is a good song that had limited exposure. Too bad they were on different labels or maybe it would have happened like the Barbra Streisand/Neil Diamond duet from 1979. Yes, "Still A Thrill" was the highest charting JW single spending 4 weeks at #4. The combination of a funked up rhythm track with the best James Brown guitar riffs and a visually spectacular music video gave it the complete package in my book. Interesting to see how she fared on your chart in contrast. The top 2 singles from the LP on my chart ("Still A Thrill" and "Looking For A New Love") performed the poorest on your chart.

I saw the band's drummer a few times at my bank branch back then while I was depositing my pay cheques..his must have been a lot bigger than mine In two weeks, "Alone" would be all alone at the top of the chart. Powerful song. And if you checked out "Dancing With The Stars" last night, you saw a great dance routine accompanying this song (the song wasn't the original recording by Heart though, but it should have been). Yes, Canadian bands were still influencing my chart in the late 80's and the Frozen Ghost song was quality rock. Too bad I heard little from those guys after that LP. Cool that you saw the drummer out and about.

This week's SXM AT40 classic countdown is from May 19, 1979, here's my chart for that week. May 19, 1979 TW LW WKS .3....1...12...Music Box Dancer - Frank Mills .5...21....6...Renegade - Styx 13...18....5...Dancer - Gino Soccio 16...29....2...Bang A Gong - Witch Queen 18....5...10...I Want Your Love - Chic 24...32....3...Such A Woman - Tycoon Glad to see you gave props to Canadian Frank Mills with his surprise instrumental smash. Frank debuted on my chart 7 years earlier in 1972 with a moving song called "Love Me Love Me Love". It was a #1 song for me. Very talented man. Like you, I recall hearing "Renegade" and was blown away because it sounded so different than anything else on the radio at the time. It was another indication of what made Styx so special in the 70's. But they really tanked for me in the 80's. So we really agree there too. We were talking about "Dancer" in an earlier post and there it is! Based on my music purchases and my memory of the charts back then, either "Dancer", "I Want Your Love" by Chic, or Tycoon's "Such A Woman" would have been #1 on my chart this week. And speaking of Gino Soccio, he also co-produced the the disco version of "Bang A Gong" by Witch Queen that was rapidly moving up your chart.

This weekends's AT40 classic 80's countdown is from May 30,1981, here's my chart for the week.
May 30, 1981
TW LW WKS
.1....1....6...The Medley - Stars on 45 (2nd of 3 non-cons wks at #1) .2....7....6...Watching the Wheels - John Lennon .3...14....3...The Waiting - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers .4....8....9...Living Inside Myself - Gino Vanelli .5....9....6...Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes .6...20....6...Give A Little Bit More - Cliff Richard .7...10....8...Being With You - Smokey Robinson .8...12....9...Too Much Time On My Hands - Styx .9...13....5...I Love You - The Climax Blues Band 10....2...11...Angel Of The Morning - Juice Newton 11...28....3...Sukiyaki - A Taste Of Honey 12....5....8...Sweetheart - Frankie & The Knockouts 13....4...12...Morning Train - Sheena Easton 14...16....5...A Woman Needs Love - Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio 15...18....5...What Are We Doing In Love - Dottie West 16....6....8...Hold On Loosely - .38 Special 17....3....9...I Missed Again - Phil Collins 18...19....6...Find Your Way Back - Jefferson Starship 19...11...12...Just The Two Of Us - Grover Washington Jr. 20...22....4...Jessie's Girl - Rick Springfield 21...23....7...Say You'll Be Mine - Christopher Cross 22...24....4...This Little Girl Is Mine - Gary U.S. Bonds 23...30....3...America - Neil Diamond 24...15...13...Kiss On My List - Hall & Oates 25...27....4...Time - Alan Parsons Project 26...11....8...I Can't Stand It - Eric Clapton 27...17....9...Take It On The Run - REO Speedwagon 28...35....2...Nobody Wins - Elton John 29...25....9...Her Town Too - James Taylor & J.D. Souther 30...36....2...All Those Years Ago - George Harrison 31...29...12...While You See A Chance - Steve Winwood 32...38....2...You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oates 33...39....2...Say What - Jesse Winchester 34...26...10...You Better You Bet - The Who 35...40....2...The Coldest Night Of The Year - Bruce Cockburn 36...---...1...How Bout Us - Champaign 37...---...1...Ai No Corrida - Quincy Jones 38...---...1...Still Right Here In My Heart - Pure Prairie League 39...---...1...Since I Don't Have You - Don Mclean 40...---...1...The One That You Love - Air Supply
"The Medley" was at #1 for its second week, but was then ousted from the top spot the next week by Tom Petty's "The Waiting" which spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1. After 3 consecutive weeks at #2, it then returned the favour by bumping Tom Petty down to #2 and spending it's 3rd and final week at #1. Both of these songs were among the biggest of the year.
We touched on the subject of medley's recently. As mentioned, since I think today's music is somewhat lacking, I'm sure some interesting new medley's could be produced today as there were so many great pop songs from the 60s to the 80s.
Phil Collins was dropping from the #3 position to #17 with "I Missed Again". The week before he was at #1 and a later single "In The Air Tonight" also went to #1 from one of my favourite albums of the year "Face Value". He did have big success in Canada with the album and the singles but curiously, both of those singles only peaked at #19 on AT40 and he didn't really have big success in the U.S. until 3 years later.

One of the music peaks for me in the 80's occurred a couple of months prior to this chart and some of those super singles are still hanging around. "Hello Again" and "While You See A Chance" had both spent 7 weeks at #1. But a new super single was just debuting as "Time" would ultimately spend 8 weeks at #1.
Neil Diamond was about to hit #1 for the third straight time with another superb single from the Jazz Singer Soundtrack.
Andy Gibb reached #1 for the final time with a devastatingly sad song. The lyrics would soon reflect his own life and he never recovered.

Oh yes, the dilemma of who should be at the top when two strong singles are deserving of #1. With you, the Stars On 45 and Petty would be at war in the upcoming weeks. Ironically, the Stars On 45 were at war with Kim Carnes on the national chart with Kim Carnes ultimately winning out. In your case, it sounds like the Stars On 45 would have the last laugh. Great to see the Cliff Richard single making the leap up the chart. On my chart it followed the same path as"A Little In Love" by inching its way up to a #2 peak. It looked like both Cliff Richard and A Taste Of Honey would be giving the Stars On 45 and Tom Petty a challenge for the top spot in upcoming weeks with those jumps. I didn't know about how popular the Face Value LP & the singles from it were in Canada. It was "In The Air Tonight" that gave Collins his first Top 10 single on my chart and I agree that the LP is quite good. The first time I was introduced to the Beatles song "Tomorrow Never Knows" was thanks to this Phil Collins LP. I had a simulated LSD trip when hearing his version. That was one psychedelic beauty. I agree that it would be great if medleys had a comeback. I'm surprised no one has attempted it.

TW LW TTW 14...19....4...You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oates 26..---....1...Time - Alan Parsons Project 27..---....1...Gemini Dream - Moody Blues 33...36....2...Elvira - Oak Ridge Boys Hall and Oates is making steady progress up your chart with "You Make My Dreams" much the same as it would on mine, and it would finally break through and reach #1. Always liked them in the 70's and appreciated this tune with a rock edge. I don't believe that I actually beat you to the punch(at least initially) on your monster hit "Time" by The Alan Parsons Project My #25 after 4 wks vs your debut at #26. It rose slowly up my chart and didn't hit #1 for the first time until it's 9th week. Nice to see the high debut by the Moody Blues. They had another of the great albums that year "Long Distance Voyager", that would produce a couple of number ones and a number two for me. Loved the crossover(dare I say novelty) hit "Elvira" by The Oak Ridge Boys. It was catchy and did very well on my chart.

Not much movement in this chart except for the latest Heart single, which would be their highest charted single since "Barracuda" in 1977.
"Chariots Of Fire" is the only instrumental to reach #1 on my chart in the 80's and 90's.
Abba reached #1 for the final time with "The Visitors", although they still had one more Top 10 single on my chart to come before they officially announced they were done.

This weekends's AT40 classic 80's countdown is from Jun 5, 1982, but sadly I stopped charting completely just a few weeks before that. Since it is pretty close in time, I thought that I'd go ahead, shed a tear :'( and post my very last chart..so here goes. I am sure that I would have had some interesting charts but..as it turns out we'll have to leave it as a fish story..the ones that got away However there are some very good british/aussie tunes sprinkled into this chart.

Thanks for posting your final chart. I posted mine a few months ago (from 1991) and although it was the right time for me to stop, I still look back on it as a sad day. I believe your "fish story" since I do see an early British Invasion on your final chart with songs few stations were playing in America in 1982. Such as XTC, Pete Shelley, The Jam & Split Enz. And of course, the massive jump for Haircut 100. Great to see the an underrated Cars song at #1. It was a Top 10 hit for me also. In only it's third week on your chart and being at #3, it would be safe to assume that Asia would have been #1 on your chart in the upcoming weeks. Interesting to see how "Chariots Of Fire" was a slow climber on your chart also. It hit #1 on my chart in its 11th week, which is very late. And it reached #1 on the Billboard chart after 22 weeks. Also very late. It's one of those songs you appreciate the more you hear it. Nice to see the Dr Hook song in your top 10. It reached the top 10 on my chart as well and should have done so nationally. The Gamma single is fairly obscure. Few stations played it in my area. But an impressive jump on your chart. As was the Teenage Head song, which has you proudly supporting Canadian acts again.

"Thanks for posting your final chart. I posted mine a few months ago (from 1991) and although it was the right time for me to stop, I still look back on it as a sad day." 'I believe your "fish story" since I do see an early British Invasion on your final chart with songs few stations were playing in America in 1982. Such as XTC, Pete Shelley, The Jam & Split Enz. And of course, the massive jump for Haircut 100." "Interesting to see how "Chariots Of Fire" was a slow climber on your chart also. It hit #1 on my chart in its 11th week, which is very late. "As was the Teenage Head song, which has you proudly supporting Canadian acts again." It is a sad day for me too. At the time I had just finished college and got my first real job which took up a lot more of my time. Additionally I started coaching youth sports, plus the demands of keeping up ones social life in their early 20's caught up with me. Looking back on it all, I wished that I had charted until late '89. I thought there was so much great music in the mid to late 80's, but by 1990 I did not like very much music that was out there anymore. I didn't hear XTC's "Senses Working Overtime" for years until now...but it's a great song. I have Haircut 100's "Pelican West" album buried somewhere in my basement. It had some pretty good songs including another catchy tune "Fantastic Day". If I had continued charting, I am pretty sure that both "Senses Working Overtime" and "Love Plus One" would have made it to number one. Chariots of Fire was actually on it's second wind. It was previously in the top 5, fell out of the top 10 and then was rising again on this last chart. A great song with lasting power. Teanage Head had some chart success and they were a great rocking bar band, I certainly remember going through many pitchers of beer with friends watching them back in the day
