2010 People's Choice Awards Announced 10/19

I have a feeling there will be a big opening number with both Queen Latifah, Carrie, Taylor, Mariah, etc, Colbie Colliat maybe. The press release mentions several surprise guests.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The people who watch TV shows, buy movie tickets and follow their favorite artists online get to call the shots during the first show of Hollywood's awards season: the People's Choice Awards.

The awards will be presented Wednesday at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and will air live on CBS (9 p.m. EST). Topping the nominees are vampire tales ''The Twilight Saga: New Moon'' and HBO's ''True Blood.''

Fans cast more than 60 million votes to choose the winners in 30 categories including favorite action star, favorite on-screen team, favorite music collaboration and favorite animal show.

Host Queen Latifah is set to welcome celebrities including Taylor Swift, Sacha Baron Cohen, Sandra Bullock, Steve Carell, Carrie Underwood, Hugh Jackman and LL Cool J to the two-hour show.

Latifah will perform a musical number to open the program; Mary J. Blige and Cobra Starship with Nicole Scherzinger are also slated to perform.

Between awards determined by fans and scores of celebrity appearances, ''audiences will be unwilling to leave their seats or walk away from their televisions,'' said executive producer Mark Burnett.

''The Twilight Saga: New Moon'' is up for favorite movie, franchise and on-screen team for its trio of stars: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Stewart and Pattinson are also nominated for favorite movie actress and actor, and Lautner is up for breakout movie actor.

''True Blood'' has nominations for favorite TV obsession and sci-fi-fantasy TV show, plus star Anna Paquin is nominated for TV drama actress.

''Star Trek'' is another multiple nominee. It's up for favorite film, and its stars, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, are nominated for breakout acting.

Lautner and fellow ''New Moon'' star Kellan Lutz are set to appear on Wednesday's show, as are Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Ashton Kutcher, Keith Urban, George Lopez and Jackie Chan.

''The stars are coming out in droves to thank the fans for their love and support,'' Burnett said.

The show will also feature an early look at the 20th season of ''Survivor'' and sneak peeks of the upcoming films ''Clash of the Titans'' and ''Robin Hood.''

Mariah Carey Is People's Choice – And Ours

Mariah Carey is all set to pick up her People's Choice Award tonight on CBS. She's a winner, I'm told, for Best R&B singer.

What? Yes, everyone seems to know who's won those People's Choice Awards before they arrive at the studio. Who votes in this thing? "The voting public," a Hollywood publicist replied with a smirk. Well, whatever.

Mariah's had a big year, especially because of her surprisingly understated performance in "Precious." She's picking up Breakthrough Performance awards everywhere, and now, suddenly, directors want Mariah Carey. It's a far cry from her debut acting debacle years ago in "Glitter."

It's too bad Mariah didn't get pushed more for an Oscar or Globe in "Precious," since she's also supported the movie like crazy. She's shown up anywhere they've asked her to go. And she didn't require a fee to be there, either!

One place where Mariah did not have a big hit last year: music. Her most recent album just didn't take off despite the witty lead single, "Obsessed."

But this is what Mariah has to do next, I think, to get back on the charts: a straight ahead album of real singing, no fluttering, no hip hop. She has to get a really musical producer — like her buddy Randy Jackson — and record some actual, structured songs. She might even cover some classics. But the days of ethereal scatting over this and that, I think, are over. Let the voice be heard!

As for the People's Choice: if you watch this show, you'll know who's won right away by who's in the audience waiting to get their award. Since Hugh Jackman, Sandra Bullock, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift are already being promoted by CBS, you can guess they won their categories. Surprise! They're not hanging around that studio for their health!

whats the PCA's twitter because Ken Baker was saying that Miley isn't going. I don't know why she would have flown back yesterday if she wasn't going. I think shes a shoe in for break out actress

This is the cheapest of all televised awards shows. One year, they were clearly sitting in those metal fold-out chairs that you see in government offices and the really inbred born again christian churches.

And I love how the whole show is basically *so-and-so wins! oh! so-and-so couldnt be here tonight* ... and then the next award ... *and the winner is, ELLEN!* and she's there ... and then another no-show, then another Ellen award, then another no-show, over and over, and the whole time Portia just looks annoyed.

The Hendrix video is a demonstration of Sony's plan to remaster concert footage in 3D. He was quickly followed by CEO Sir Howard Stringer who introduced country singer Taylor Swift, who performed one song live, but was also projected in 3D on the screen behind her. Sony says it plans a slew of live 3D performances just like this.
