It is a "goofy" show- if you're going to base something on popularity, at least the AMAs goes by sales and that kind of thing. These People's Choice may be as loopy as the Grammys have been for most of its history. The AMAs is online voted now. lol

The AMAs even are doing online voting? So, what- it takes the top sellers and then people vote on them? Pre-Internet, how did the People's Choice Awards choose winners? Mail-in ballots, I'd guess?

They're both online voting. I think the AMAs still does the best selling to get nominees and then people vote online. Many award shows are going to fan voted including the VMAs(I think it was totally fan voted except for the VOTY award) and certain categories of the ACMs. Hopefully the CMAs and Grammys don't become fan voting. I'd like to keep some industry awards in there. Completely OT... but I'm watching Pink's concert special, and I think her Bohemian Rhapsody is my favorite cover of that song so far. Nothings like the original but she did a great job singing it.

Some are acting as if I am concocting this "rigged" idea because I disagree with one award. lol I find many of the awards handed out to be "fishy". The whole Carrie/Taylor just happens to be a good example. I have absolutely nothing against Carrie, in fact, I love her new album. However, if her fans were so determined and voted-voted-voted to give Carrie the award and the votes for her outnumbered the votes for Taylor, why did they not succeed with the other award when one casts votes for the show all in typically one sitting? lol This taking out the fact that Taylor's fans (which most claim to be tweens/teenagers) have proven to be extremely rabid this year in regard to loyalty (CMT Awards/album sales/single sales/video countdown programs); hell, even the applause while each of the nominees were being read was louder with Taylor than the others. I just find it really convenient that both took home an award that was televised. Outside of the Carrie/Taylor instance you have several other winners who look suspicious. Mariah Carey over Beyonce? Alyson Hannigan over Tina Fey? The Big Bang Theory over The Office? The list just goes on and on. Nearly the whole list of winners seem odd to me. lol Oh well, no big deal anyway, just something I noticed.

Online voting always creates those situations.

This time I actually voted for Alyson and BBT because I love those shows. I usually vote for Tina and 30 Rock but I figured they'd won a lot already. Of course I'm just one person and I don't do the multiple voting so I probably don't count.

To be honest, most of the winners from the TV category were from CBS, parent network of those shows ( How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory). The fact that it was mostly promoted on the home network, what else were CBS supposed to do? Throw their employees a bone, of course.

I like that there's variety. Come Golden Globe time it'll probably be Tina and 30 Rock winning again. I'd be ok with that too because it cracks me up. I just hope that Neil Patrick Harris gets an award somewhere eventually.
The Alyson win is a little surprising, although I can see the young voters going her way over the other actresses. She may have fans more likely to do this kind of online voting than the other actresses. As for the Big Bang Theory their ratings have really picked up this year, so I'm not that surprised about their win.
I gotta say that I love how Johnny Depp shows up for the fan voted stuff year after year. If he's working somewhere, he still will do the satellite thing. I also hear that he's one of the nicest celebs when it comes to greeting fans and autographing.

I suspect it's a case of rewarding whomever is popular AND is willing to turn up for the show.

I never would have guessed people would be worked up over the PCAs. I'm personally not worked up at all, just a bit mystified. lol Ah I didn't mean you-more like the "invested" Carrie and Taylor fans. I think most awards shows are rigged to some extent. Some are overtly political. Or, at least there is no way to do it 100% accurately when it comes to voting. I suppose that should detract from awards shows for me if I believe that, but it doesn't. It is still fun to see my favorites win and see performances.

It's a weird show. Nothing really makes sense. But it is kind of cool to see some new names win.

I suppose that should detract from awards shows for me if I believe that, but it doesn't. Haha. For me, this year is the first year I noticed anything I would call suspicious (probably because I'm not an avid People's Choice Awards viewer). It certainty does leave me feeling like any award given to my favorite performers is a lot less significant (not like a PCA is huge deal in the first place, but you get the point). lol It would have been nice to at least see more performances (it seems award shows in general are lacking more and more as the years go by).

Make some room, b***hes! Stepped over? Hardly, since Taylor won Best Female,a category that Carrie was competing in. I'm just going to echo what a Taylor fan posted on tayswift.com : " Now that her and Carrie won something may there be peace on earth for the rest of the night. Next stop Grammys. "

Congrats to Carrie!!!! Lady Gaga won too! so great! I am so glad that Gaga FINALLY won a fan voted award over the predicted favorites to win.
It was a good night overall. I like that they broke up the awards so that no one dominated. Much more fun and interesting that way...and fair.

The AMAs don't go by sales anymore. They're fan-voted now too. The nominations are by sales.

Just to point out, Lady Gaga beat Taylor too, and she did not attend, so this is not an "appearance" award. Lots of people won that did not attend.
Carrie has also won several PCAS in the past when she could not attend.
I think they tell you in advance you won to get you to come, but you still get the award if you can't come. Otherwise, Gaga would have lost, as well as several other people.

My radio DJ this morning was talking about how the PCA has fallen in stature. He said the show peaked several years ago with about 35 million viewers. Last night's show was around 9 million. I have no way to confirm that information...just sharing some information. I didn't watch. These shows have all become so predictable with the winners that it's no longer interesting unless you are a fan of someone nominated. I guess I'm not alone.
