^ i love this chart.i always prefer to hear my favourite song last long in the chart(to know that people love the song in long term).

yay,"gives you hell" have 40 weeks at number 40.they only need 2 more weeks to tie "low" record. this song is the best work the rejects had.hoprefully they will have better success for next album.

A similar problem has occurred on the Hot AC version as well. Songs like "Lovegame" and "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" have been overexposed as breakouts and extras, albeit with late timing. When "Lovegame" finally entered AT40, it was already on its way out to being purged from the official charts, so it only ran for one week at #40 and then dropped out the following week. I suspect the same will happen to "I'll Go Crazy..." There are few songs that had a slightly longer run of more than one week like "Good Girls Go Bad" and "99 Times", but were barely able to move, peaking only at #38 or #39.

Yeah, the Hot AC chart is a real winner. Mediabase makes stricter recurrent rules for Hot AC, and what does AT40 do? Nothing! Get that two year smash, Jason!

Why do people not understand that this chart plays the Top 40 most played songs on CHR/Pop? Recurrents may be off the chart to make room, but they are STILL played. Why don't people understand that? The song at #40 right now on the CHR/Pop chart is NOT the #40 most played song on Pop radio. Its only #40 when you take away recurrents. Thats why its not gonna be #40 when you add in the songs that are actually played more than it. Its annoyed me for the past 3 years I've been on forums that people bitch about AT40 playing recurrents.

And as an on-topic bit, I find it interesting that Coldplay's "Lovers In Japan" peaked at #51 on the Mediabase chart with recurrents, yet still made AT40 and peaked at #39. I am not complaining, I am so glad it made the chart, but it's really interesting how songs that have done much better than that have not made the chart. It must be due to the panel differences; it's surprising that the panel differences would have such a significant effect, though.

Oh I agree. It would be nice if there was a recurrent rule, but their isn't. My post wasn't solely directed towards you either. You didn't state that "this chart is whack cause it has too many recurrents". You just said you didn't like it. But a lot of people have come in here saying how this chart is "wrong" or "useless" because it has so many recurrents. lol Like I said, recurrents are still played.

They can. I think AT40 uses the R&R chart or maybe BDS, not 100% sure, but if a song ended up getting lucky and 90% of the stations playing it were reported on the chart AT40 uses, then it would have a better chance of being on there as opposed to a song 3 places above it that only has 70% of its stations being reported to the panel AT40 uses. Make sense? It was kind of hard to explain, but i'm sure you get it. lol You seem like a smart guy.

Hah, thanks. And yeah I do get it, I just found it odd that "Lovers In Japan" made it. I mean a song would have to get extremely lucky with the panels to only make #51 on the Mediabase chart with recurrents but be specifically popular enough on those select AT40 stations to chart on AT40. I guess they saw it coming though, because the song was featured as a breakout two shows before it charted.

I know nobody is forcing me to listen. And trust me, I'm not listening. I just wish there was a countdown show with a fresh and accurate chart that would be appealing to listen to.
