For the most part the musicians I follow can play an instrument at least to a degree. However, I do agree that it's not a must skill for an artist like Adam. However, I do question how well a songwriter he can be without playing a instrument. Yeah, I know there's ways around it and other "songwriters" get credit for being songwriters without playing an instrument. I guess with the right electronic equipment you can come up with the beat and melody without playing yourself. But to me part of writing a song is being able to pluck out the music on a guitar or piano. I guess people like Beyonce just hum the music and assist with the lyrics and they are a songwriter. For instance, it's my understanding that Lady Gaga is very accomplished on the piano. I personally have a little more respect for artists that can play. Otherwise, you really are just a singer. And there's nothing wrong with being just a singer. Lots of great ones have never written but then again they weren't putting their names on songs as the songwriter when they contributed very little to the songs. I really don't like that but its the way of the world. Music publishing is where the real money is in the music industry. Publishing and touring. Well, Greg Wells, who worked with Adam on this record, said Adam is a fantastic songwriter, so he's doing something right. I mean he co-wrote this song, and I happen to think it's pretty darn good: He also wrote this song pre-Idol with Monte Pittman which I think is pretty good. Had he shortened it and re-recorded it, it would have worked on his current album: He seems to have an ear for a catchy pop hook in the songs he writes. The lyrics of "Pop Goes the Camera" are so ironically perfect for his situation now. He should buy a lottery ticket for his ability to predict the future. He wrote this when he was still a chorus boy in Wicked. No way in hell could have known how his life would change in just a few years.

I like Pop Goes the Camera and Crawl. BO and DtRH are my favorite songs from the album. I have no idea how he was involved in those--as a lyricist, or as the composer. I'm guessing as the lyricist.

Adam also co-wrote this with Rivers Cuomo. I think the base of the song was Rivers' idea, but he and Adam did a lot of re-working and re-writing of the song, and now Adam has a co-writing credit on it.

I think he only changed a part of the bridge or the melody in PUU. He explained it in an interview once but I can't remember where that was... BO is his baby.

Great update today (yeah I know I'm late, damn west coast)!
Adam definitely has some talent as a songwriter. I know some people don't care for it, but I always loved Pop Goes the Camera. I think it's catchy as hell. When I first heard it, I had no idea he had written it. I thought it was just a montage of pretty Adam photos set to a great dance track on YouTube, lol. That was wayyy back at the start of Idol last year. How things have changed!
Anyway, I'm not good at predicting the charts, but I noticed many of the songs directly above WWFM are losing spins and bullets. Does anyone have any guesses on how this will be moving up if it keeps going at the current rate?

Gaga plays the piano really well, yes, and Beyonce is known to negotiate writers credit when she hasn't really done anything. Doesn't mean that that's the case with Adam. He composed songs before AI and he has clearly explained what part he was involved with and how that process worked. Even a song like River Comos PUU, where Adam has writing credit, he explained what he contributed to the song. But unless we're in the studio with him we don't really know. I think the song on the album that he worked the most on (from songwriter point of view) was Broken Open and maybe Down the Rabbit Hole. I'm not in the music industry but I don't think that it's any mystery that certain artists have bought writing credits on songs. That's the way the industry works. I don't know if that's how it worked 20 years ago but since album sales aren't what they used to be the big stars still want that big money and its in writing. Of course, only the people who actually work with these people know this for sure but legimate "rumors" have always been out there for Beyonce, Mariah, Avril Lavigne, just to name a few. My post wasn't to imply that Adam has already bought writing credits. It was simply to point out that I would find it difficult to come up with a song idea and fully develop it on your own without being able to play an instrument. Ever read anything from songwriters about how they come up with song ideas? Many of them say they just sit at the piano or pick up the guitar and start playing around with a riff, a melody, etc. I've never tried to write a song myself but I certainly admire someone who can come up with a song from scratch and complete the song all by themselves (melody and lyrics). It's a talent and not everyone has that talent obviously. I don't think everyone has to be a songwriter and some should not. Maybe they would have better material if they bought an already finished song that would be a great fit for them rather than trying to co-write on a lesser song. I think recoginizing your strengths and not trying to do it all is half the battle to having a long career in a profession that's pressure packed. Artists burn out all the time.

Rumors, Adam has a whole back catalog of songs he's written and recorded before AI. He didn't have to "buy" credits. Those were his songs that he wrote.
Here's another one:

Here's another one: I think those songs are showing how Adam stayed true to himself in the direction he, RCA, and 19 chose for FYE. He was always leaning towards pop music and I think pop music suits him well. ;) Up to #28 in Top 40 and #34 in Hot AC in the afternoon updates.

Wow. I hadn't seen that before. That's amazing! It has a very "RENT" feel to it, which I like. They did a great job.

And how much of this is due to OHP spins? I know WWFM was on some smashdown show as well this weekend...
A bit worried about this keeping the steam if it continues to have low adds.

Theo, I'd take any spins, no matter where they come from! Love the update! I think WWFM will end up #24-#25 next sunday.

If he maintains the same pace and everyone around him maintains the same pace as well, he'll pass Daughtry, Bieber and BEP for sure. And then he'll benefit from Evacuate the Dancefloor going recurrent. But Young Money will surely pass him. So #25 seems just about right.
He can also go up as high as #24 if Beyonce also goes recurrent. Or he may also be at #26 if The Script outpaces him.
The following week will be a mess with Kesha, Ludacris and Lady Antebellum all possible spoilers.

And how much of this is due to OHP spins? I know WWFM was on some smashdown show as well this weekend... Only one of the OHP spins yesterday was new, the other matched last week's spins, and the weekend throwdown show was aired only in less than 10 stations yesterday, and not all of them are monitored.. so I'd say more than 50 of those spins are from neither of them. Also, Young Money and Luda both had 5 OHP spins this weekend, "Blah Blah Blah" and "Naturally" also got more OHP spins than WWFM this weekend, and who knows how many spins those and others got in the weekend throwdown show.. so the same question can be asked about those songs as well.

The following week will be a mess with Kesha, Ludacris and Lady Antebellum all possible spoilers. I'd say that depends on the adds this week and the next week for all those songs. By next week, if he gets enough adds and if they continue to drop as they did today, he could pass Drake and Shinedown, and maybe even Britney.. not to mention there are plenty of other songs eligible to go recurrent that could drop below #20 in two weeks from today, such as Beyonce's and Kelly's.

LOL, several weeks ago blackberryaddict posted in some thread he decided to add OneRepublic and Gaga's "Telephone" songs. In that week, no monitored station added both songs, so.. I guess that small market station isn't even monitored..
