Looking at the fate of FYE and what went over best on Idol, releasing any fast song, however appropriate, however free of sexuality, is risky. LOL...FYE was very sexual. Releasing something like IIHY wouldn't be that risky.

FYE was risky because it was a gay man singing about BDSM. IIHY is just cute catchy and fun with no mention of sex or sexuality.

This song is surprisingly awesome. I've been listening to it a lot for the last 3 weeks. Weird though, with how fast it's starting to climb, I only just heard it on the local pop station. Afterwords, the DJ said how he shared my opinion on it. He called Adam the "controversial Adam Lambert", heh.
I really hope this does well. I'd like to hear more rock songs from him.

LOL...FYE was very sexual. Releasing something like IIHY wouldn't be that risky. You're right, and I apologize as I worded it wrong. I meant that he seems safer with slower songs than with fast songs, whether those songs are sexy (FYE/Fever) or not (IIHY/Strut/MA). My favorite fast songs are Fever, which is not going to go anywhere because of the "he," and DtRH, which is not going to go anywhere for obvious reasons.

Fever will never, ever be released as a single unless Adam re-records the beginning to make it gender neutral.

^^ Which is just sad because it would make a great single.

I think they should have GaGa re-record some vocals for "Fever", then release it.
It would kill in Europe either way, though.

New peak on the hot 100 tonight for sure :) Nice to see it's moving back up on iTunes the week after Oprah.

Great sales and good update! I'm excited to see those new adds kick in.
In case anyone missed it, here's an HD quality streaming video of Adam performing Strut on Ellen. Again, this performance makes me think Strut might actually be a good single. We'll see.

I am Team Fever. And I don't really think the word "he" will be a problem but I might be naive. It's the track DJ's have been most enthusiastic about and the Gaga connection certainly won't hurt.
I also wouldn't mind him doing a radio version without "he", I don't think that Adam is selling out if that's necessary. It's more a reflection on society (or radio PD's) if that's needed.

I cannot imagine that Adam would agree to re-record Fever just to make it gender neutral. That kind of neutering is not what he's about. Had he wanted to make it gender neutral in the first place, he could have.
That said, Fever will never see the light of day as a single. I can say that with almost 100% certainty simply because there are FAR better tracks on the album than that.
After WWFM, it should go IIHY, Sleepwalker, Music Again OR IIHY, Sleepwalker, Pick U Up.

Now that I've looked at the commentary on Ellen's Strut, I also don't know if it would be an appropriate single. Until he is well established, he might have to go with the slow songs that will not bring out the bigot in the American public. Sleepwalker would work well. BO could work after being edited for the radio. Aftermath sounds too much like it has a "gay" theme, so might not be appropriate, and LS lyrics could be too confusing for many Americans.

Broken Open and Aftermath wouldn't ever be released as singles becasue they're not radio friendly at ALL. Are you kidding me? RCA wouldn't waste the money trying to make those songs hits. IIHY is about 95% confirmed as Adam's next single and Sleepwalker was in contention as Adam's FIRST single according to the songwriters, so it'll most likely be a single too.

BO is my favorite slow song on the album, so I'm prejudiced for it, but Aftermath is terrible, on top of being thematically dangerous. I also agree that IIHY is probably going to be the next single, but Strut also has a shot, as does MA. Though I don't much like the song, Sleepwalker is probably their best option for the next single. imo Adam needs to develop a presence on the radio before they release a fast song.

You have it backwards. Adam needs a fast song to establish a radio presence, not the other way around. Ballads don't generally get played here on the radio unless you are a core format artist like Kelly Clarkson or Taylor Swift. Why do you think most first singles are uptempo songs? That's what gets played on American radio the most. IIHY and Pick U Up are the two most radio friendly songs on the entire album.

Fever just isn't that good IMO. It's only middle of the pack on his CD. The Lady Gaga connection won't help him, if that's what you're thinking. Radio is dominated right now by dance music. IIHY is the danciest song on the album. I hope RCA isn't so stupid to release Fever as a single.

All of the uptempo stuff on this album is so polarizing (including IIHY). When he sings loud and high it's definitely not for everyone. The one safe sounding uptempo on the album (FYE) was hampered by middling production and "extreme" lyrics. IMO he should play it safe and go with Sleepwalker right away.

FYE never picked up, and needed to be replaced with WWFM before the AMAs, and FYE was radio friendly. On Idol he did better with slower songs than with fast ones. Given this country's social neuroses, imo it would be safer to go with yet another non-sexual, sad, slow single like Sleepwalker before risking a fast single. OK, I don't know. I'm making guesses.

Full Idol Sales Update
Kris Allen, Live Like We're Dying (65,000, -6 percent, 685,000 total) Adam Lambert, Whataya Want From Me (59,000, +59 percent, 266,000) Carrie Underwood, Cowboy Casanova (39,000, -10 percent, 1.050 million) Daughtry, Life After You (32,000, -11 percent, 306,000) Kelly Clarkson, Already Gone (27,000, -12 percent, 1.164 million) Pants Down Crew, Pants on the Ground [Tribute Version] (17,000, debut, 17,000) Carrie Underwood, Temporary Home (17,000, +7 percent, 129,000) Jordin Sparks, Battlefield [Main Version] (16,000, +8 percent, 1.39 million) Jennifer Hudson feat. The Roots, Let It Be (14,000, debut, 14,000) Adam Lambert, For Your Entertainment (11,000, -9 percent, 230,000)
Kris Allen held the lead, but did drop some this week. Adam came close second due to Oprah. WWFM finally passed FYE in sales though. FYE sold very well for how little play it got. I highly doubt the label company lost any money off its promo.

Adam had the most Idol sales this week, H4H which has J-Hud on the album was the top though. Kris's sales are horrible for the airplay hes getting. Adams digital jump is huge.

If this hits the top 20 on CHR, I think that's good enough. With FYE failing so miserably, I was worried that he wasn't going to have any shot at all on pop. This has already shown he can do something on radio, and hopefully If I Had You and Sleepwalker follow this, since I think those are the real hits of the album.

I'm pretty sure z100 put this in power rotation! It's getting played less than an hour apart!
