Wow, there's an ongoing battle between Dido and Sheryl Crow for the top spot. This is, what, the third time Sheryl has recaptured the number one position? Something like that. I'm surprised that Five For Fighting hasn't snuck a week or two in yet. Maybe they'll be number one during the time Martina McBride tops the R&R AC chart, however long that may be. Not sure when or even if she'll be #1 on AT10.
It's not too often that a song makes the biggest jump one week and the biggest drop the next, but Josh Groban does just that. It moved from 8-4 last week and I was wondering if the popularity of the version by the original authors of the song, Selah, on Christian stations had anything to do with it. Well, if it did, it sure didn't last long, as Josh is back to #8. But it'll probably hang around that spot for awhile, or maybe even continue its yo-yo move - whatever it does, it probably isn't going to leave the chart anytime soon, along with the other moldy-oldie songs near the bottom of the chart, since I don't see any songs entering the Top Ten anytime soon. I wonder if they're going to do just a Top Ten chart for the year ender, since they're not going to have enough songs to make a full Top 30 chart at this rate.
Looks like I have a correct streak going, regarding my predictions of the Spotlight, since I predicted that last week would be Father's Day and this week would be Summer Songs. Will Patriotic Songs be next week? We'll have to see. In case you're wondering what "If This Is It" has to do with summer, check out the video. There are many beach scenes in the video, including a funny one at the end. A bunch of heavyset people arrive at the beach and a shark starts attacking.
Also, it would have been nice if they had played the new version of "Summer Breeze" by Seals & Crofts, since that's apparently at #17 this week. But that would mean playing more than three current songs and we all know we can't have that!
They didn't do any 1960s songs for former #1 songs this week, but they did do several early 1970s hits, plus an early 1980 hit, which was actually a remake of a 1960s hit. This was a case when the remake was better than the original (IMO, anyway). I'm sorry, but Frankie Valli sounds like he's on the pot, trying to force out a huge turd when he's singing the original. Of course, I heard the Spinners version before I ever heard the Four Seasons one, so...
Conversely, they played several songs from this century as well (and is it me, or have they played "Wherever You Will Go" as an archive song several times this year already? Or was it a LDD?) They even played one that was on the chart earlier this year ("Invisible") even though Casey said it was from 2003, which it was, since it came out that year (then again, "My Baby You" came out in 2000, but Casey called it a 2001 song, since that was the year it peaked).
Well, I'll be back next week to post the July 4 show. We'll see if my predictions are right about the Spotlight.
