A little trivia for the Mariah Carey fans of this site 2nd straight decade that Mariah has had the #1 song How is that possible when Smooth, Macarena, and How Do I Live were ranked higher on Billboard's Hot 100 songs of all-time? Higher than any other Mariah song from that decade. What were the top 10 songs for the 90s? And I'm sure Iris and Don't Speak had to be up there also even though they weren't commercial singles, at least I don't remember them being released commercially, but I may be wrong. Don't Speak didn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100 because of the lack of physical CD single and "Iris" charted but it was too late and it peaked only at #9.

Looks all in all Bey has a lot to be proud of this decade! Yeah, the number of hits she has in this decade is phenomenal. It would be hard to imagine her doing this well by the end of the next decade, b/c this one was near record-breaking. :o

I can't believe Baby Boy is higher than Crazy in Love. I always assumed the latter was the bigger hit. Baby boy spent 9 weeks at #1 while Crazy in Love "only" 8 weeks... Plus BB was a bigger airplay hit (Peaked at 196M audience) while Crazy in Love only at 190M...

reeeally confused lol- IGF spent exactly the same amount of weeks at #1, sold WAY more than WBT and basically spent the same time in the top 40; so how is WBT way ahead? Lord, Billboard couldnt be more up Mariahs a*s lol.

Maybe the Hot 100 of the decade was based on chart performance instead of raw sales and impressions data (or a mix of both)?
I GOTTA FEELING: no. 1: 14 weeks top 5: 17 weeks top 10: 20 weeks top 20: 24 weeks
BOOM BOOM POW: no. 1: 12 weeks top 5: 15 weeks top 10: 19 weeks top 20: 24 weeks
That would supposedly give IGF more points and put it higher in the decade list ???
I hope Chart Beat answers the questions that they will certainly receive.

Lord, Billboard couldnt be more up Mariahs a*s lol. Oh please. We Belong Together was the big hit of the decade. There's no denying in that. Proof is that I Gotta Feeling landed at #5. Yes, I Gotta Feeling sold WAY more than We Belong Together, but remember the latter spent weeks with over 200 million AI while the former barely reached 120 million.

It didn't just start its chart life at #3 or whatever it was the IGF did. WBT actually had to work its way up to #1 and then it statyed there for weeks on end and it would've had 15 weeks at #1 straight if it weren't for AI.

Baby Boy spent two more weeks on the chart than did Crazy In Love and spent one more week at number one. PERIOD. That's why it's ranked higher. Crazy In Love is only seen as bigger since it was her debut single

The all-time Hot 100, the decade charts and the yearly charts clearly have separate systems.

It was easy to predict that WBT and Yeah! would be the top 2 songs of the 2000s based on Billboard's Hot 100 songs of all-time list from last year. So this isn't a surprise to me. 1. One Sweet Day 2. Macarena 3. I'll Make Love To You 4. Un-Break My Heart 5. Candle In The Wind 6. End of The Road 7. I Will Always Love You 8. The Boy Is Mine 9. I Swear 10. I'll Be Missing You

The decade charts put more weight apparently in runs at #1. The all-time Hot 100 was weighted by era. The yearly charts that they do are the only ones that seem accurate to me

Is it ONLY physical single sales?! Maybe that's why it's so heavy in the first half of the decade? What would be the chart for total sales (physical and digital)?

Yes, this is physical singles A combined chart would be skewed heavily towards digital

Billboard Hot 100 Singles Sales 1 MARIA MARIA Santana Featuring The Product G&B Arista 2 MUSIC Madonna Maverick/Warner Bros. I swear she's the Queen of the #2. She got #1 on the singles artist list, but as usual gets a #2 in something to balance it out.

From The Bottom of My Broken Heart made it to #8, what more if other Britney singles that time had proper physical CDs, she would've performed better. But anyways, thats past, yet Jive still hasn't learned much.

2m,
Where did you get that top 10 of the '90s? I've been looking for Billboard's top 100 of the 90s for years - they didn't publish a wrap-up of the '90s in the final issue of 1999 (like they did in 1989 and I guess they are doing this year...)

Usher = #2 Airplay Song, #2 Hot 100, #2 BB 200
Wow @ 50 Cent being so high, despite only having big success in two chart years.

Madge was one of the few who continued to release CD singles throughout the decade (as low as the sales were), so no surprise to see her top the Singles sales list. Despite not reaching top 10 on Hot 100 Airplay, she also had two big digital singles that have scanned more than 3.6 million combined, so she didn't do too bad.

I don't know that this should be in this thread, but Madonna also has the #1 AND #2 club play songs of the decade (1 Hung Up, 2 Music).
