Yep (yep!) JAM! I love it! I heard it on the radio on the way to school today and it sounded GREAT on the air! :o I didn't like it at all the last 3 times I heard it, but it only took one listen on the radio to become a certified JAM.

I've grown fond of this song. At first listen it was just nasty. But it's growing on me. Her vocals just urk me sometimes.

I like it. But this song is not for her. Her vocals are weak. Not a match for the beats that are straight fire.
It's like monkey steppin' to a gorilla.

She can't sing.
The song could've been good if someone else with better vocals was singin it because she's annoying.

This is undoubtedly a hit for her though there is no denying that.

Ding-dong-ding-dong-ding! This song is on fire! "First Daughter" first week DVD sales are projected to gross over the movie's total box office gross of $9.1 million! :o Go Amerie. I want to buy ding dongs now. Yum. This song is gong to be on the "hitch" soundtrack ??? "Hitch" 1. Amerie “1 Thing” The lead single to this surefire Valentine's Day box office smash! Smart marketing! :)

OK. Here's the thing. This song IS the best thing since mayonnaise, but it's hard to digest. Why? Well, Rich Harrison (the producer) is from the DC/MD area. Similar to Crazy in Love, he uses a style full of percussion and with a minimal amount of chords in this cut - just like he did in the new Jenny Lo cut. This style actually comes from the DC area where local bands run the city. They play with Cundas (congos) and all their sets are full of percussion. At every show, they break down the music and let the percussions take the crowd to freakin heaven. It really has taken over the entire city in the last 20 years or so. I mean, these little bands play pocket beats and pull crowds in the 100s - all local kids.
Anyway, the point is...Rich Harrison took something that worked locally - toned it down - and commercialized it. On top of that - he's a great musician.
It doesn't matter that Amerie and J-Lo's voices don't really carry the track...Cuz the TRACKS CARRY THEM.
IMO

Amerie has surpassed the sound-a-like "Get Right" at Urban, and with quite a bullet too. Amerie is surprising me. I'm happy for her.

I dont think "get right" and "one thing" sound much alike anymore except for the fact that its Rich harrison. "one thing" doesnt have the Hot Sax Riff! But they really dont sound alike.
But anyway, i'm not surprised this song is doin well for her. Why wouldnt it? Its her lead single and she's a urban artist. The only thing is, if this would have been done by some1 like Beyonce, she would take it str8 to #1. Amerie might be able to take it top 10 if she's lucky.

I thought "why dont we fall in love" did better than that on the Hot 100.

I thought "why dont we fall in love" did better than that on the Hot 100. That was my reasoning behind me being surprised "One Thing" is doing well. She had one hit and another minor one and promotion of her last album ended abruptly. Then she took almost 3 years between albums. It screamed one album wonder to me.

The only reason I am not suprised "one thing" is doing well is because the song is so HOT! Its just instantly catchy and infectious. Sad part is that I'm not sure if Amerie has the strong enough presence to really carry this song. This song needs an equally hot video and hot performances, to really sell it and make it a huge. She needs to find the spirit of Beyonce and and pop that booty!

Funny topic on my Ashanti forum: "Amerie dances like Ashanti!" Members were referring to her dance moves on Access Granted, or whatever.

Pitchfork gave this a cool review. They gave it 4.5/5 stars which is extremely high for them.

That review was very on point. I just wish this song was available on i-tunes already! The Hitch soundtrack came out today, but i-tunes doesn't have it yet :(.
