Has he got a new vocal coach? His voice sounds steadier, more confident hitting the big notes. He's doing consistently what he only did sporadically before.

Near the end of the Salt Lake City concert, before doing O Holy Night (the final song), David announced he will be going on a full time LDS mission. He talked a bit about it, maybe with some tears. Then he sang a beautiful O Holy Night, wiping away tears at the end. Go to 50 minutes into this livestream recording to see the announcement www.ustream.tv/recorded/19270240And a Youtube (I'm sure there will be more but this is the official site's one) www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKRmw0fEM44

We'll miss him but he's doing the right thing. Spiritually, he's the real deal. And he's leaving on a high note after a successful tour. For some time after season 7 I had the sense an absence from the spotlight would do him a lot of good in terms of connecting with real life after a hectic few years and in terms of leaving behind him a terrific amount of good will both for his decency and his great talent. And I don't think he'll be forgotten. His fans will remain loyal. I know I will. +1 This Post

More information on the mission: www.billboard.com/#/news/david-archuleta-to-embark-on-2-year-mormon-1005704152.story"American Idol" season 7 runner-up David Archuleta is putting music on hold for two years while he embarks on a Mormon mission. The 20-year-old Murray, Utah native revealed his call to serve at the Salt Lake City stop of his My Kind of Christmas Tour, telling the crowd, "I would like to make a special announcement: that I've chosen to serve a full-time mission." Slightly overwhelmed with emotion and fighting back tears, Archie, as he's affectionately known, explained to an audience of over 2,000 at Abravanel Hall why he felt a two-year mission was his calling at this juncture in his life. "It's not because someone told me I was supposed to do it and not because I no longer want to do music anymore," he said. "It's because it's what I feel I need to do next in my life. It's the same feeling that I've always tried to follow in my life -- the feeling that's allowed me to have the opportunities I've had, the challenges and the blessings, too. And I've learned to trust that feeling and answer when it calls. That's the reason why I know I have to do this in my life." It's unknown where Archuleta will be called to serve, but like other LDS (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints members), he will be expected to adhere to a strict set of rules, which includes a dress code (dark trousers, white dress shirts, and ties are usually required) and a daily schedule -- typically up by 6:30 a.m. and proselytizing by 10:00 a.m. Young men and women on a mission are generally allowed only two phone calls in a year, both to their mother, on Christmas Day and Mother's Day. One concert date remains on Archuleta's Christmas run. On Wednesday, he performs at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

I usually hide when those people knock on my door, but I'd definitely let him in. ;)

Given the state his career is in these days, this move makes perfect sense. It's just so weird to go from pop singer to door-to-door salesman for the Lord but it's his life and he knows what makes him happy so, all the best Archie!

I'm surprised it took him this long to embark on this two-year requirement to be a member of good standing in the LDS church. Maybe he needed to save money up first for himself and his family because the LDS church doesn't financially support its missionaries: they have to be monetarily self-sufficient during their two-year long duty. Anyway, this gives him a nice break to be missed and come back stronger with some life experience under his belt.

Maybe when he comes back he can star in the movie edition of The Book of Mormon?

Some videos from VIP and the last show of the My Kind of Christmas Tour.
In VIPs he did a mash-up of Good Place and Let It Be:
During the encore, he sang Waiting on the World to Change with his opener.

The motive is a love for God and a desire to serve others, something he yearns to express. But he hasn't found a way to deal with this while trying to be a pop singer other than by his Christmas tours. Now he'll be gone for two years and it'll be a very happy time for him. He won't come out of that and simply return to where he was. He'll have to reset his career. In one sense he'll be starting all over again--but not from scratch, not by a long shot. The industry knows him and respects his talent. It will definitely give him a second shot. Just look at the media interest shown the past few days. This is the real gauge of his celebrity. Ironically this is the kind of publicity jolt his career has needed for a while. I'm reminded of a very young Jody Foster who made an impression as a young actress in several important movies, then dropped out to attend college for four years during which time her career came to a complete halt. Her decision to withdraw from the scene made a big splash at the time. But it was a wise decision. She returned from her hibernation and became bigger than ever. I think David's on a similiar trajectory in a sense, though his will be a spiritual withdrawal--which makes his decision more of a curiosity for most people. But it does set him apart and make him memorable. He'll never be just another singer. Whether he likes it or not, this is going to push him in new directions musically.

the new covers were real nice
Cover - This Christmas
Cover - I Need a Silent Night (by Amy Grant)
And the song Archuleta wrote with Sunny Hilden was fun. Was prefaced by inviting kids onstage, asking them what they liked about Christmas, reading them his poem My Kind of Christmas, then giving them hats and maraca or shaker. This picks up at that point as the song starts:

That video is...strange. Interesting, but odd.
The more I listen to it though, the more I think Wait might be the best song he's ever done. When he returns from his own personal Book of Mormon he should go in that direction.

News - David will have a new album in the Philippines. Recording is almost done (may be done now). www.myxph.com/videos/997/exclusive-david-archuleta-on-recording-an-all-opm-album/Pre-sale and insert signing at Astroplus Feb 13, will be released early April 2012. www.twitlonger.com/show/frrmriDavid Archuleta "Forevermore" album presale inlay (insert I guess) - photo p.twimg.com/AlgkXeWCAAEKya9.pngDavid tweeted he "won't be here" hen the album is released :( (though I guess it's unclear if he meant won't be in Philippines or meant will be gone on his mission) The music video for Nandito Ako And BTW link below - excellent videos with gorgeous audio of David's acoustic concert in Singapore accompanied by a good Singapore guitar player Yus (not sure of spelling) - what a sound in that place. The building was like almost like a glass pyramid. The event was a Fox American Idol event - I think they are opening a Singapore publicity office for American Idol? www.youtube.com/user/pinkamech/videosIf a new thread is made for the Philippines album please post a link or mention of it here.

David's new Philippines single and title song of his OPM album is "Forevermore". We're expecting a music video too (some entertainment show had what might be a clip of it). Listen to the Forevermore single here tearfullacrymosa.tumblr.com/post/18951257201/davidarchuletaspain-forevermore-davidThe album CD can currently be preordered through Multiply.com for about $10.50 US with about $21.50 shipping to the US. There is a bulk inquire link too where you can buy 2-5 for one shipping cost, or 6-10 for a slightly higher shipping cost. The international links list which countries they will ship to. See the ordering info at this link and if you search Multiply for David Archuleta you'll find the bulk link too. EDIT - Now available for order at local Amazon and WOWHD sites (at WOWHD.us I got one for about $13 and free shipping) Cover art 26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0mmq2AQhG1rpvl7mo1_500.jpgThe album is put out by Sony and Ivory Music and Video (now sole distributors of Sony Music/Video in the Philippines). Surprisingly the album seems to include Nandito Ako which we were previously told would not be on the album, and Wherever You Go (also from the miniseries) (I am very happy both of those are on there) Tracklist: 1. Forevermore 2. Rainbow 3. I’ll Never Go 4. You Are My Song 5. Hold On 6. Wherever You Are 7. Maybe 8. Tell Me 9. Reaching Out 10. Nandito Ako 11. Forevermore (minus-one) 12. I’ll never Go (minus-one) 13. Rainbow (minus-one) === And if you want to see a couple of D's good scenes in the series Bus Trip www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5XOgtm4l_4Saving Anya www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOOke8DUfVIEDIT - This album is being released this Monday, March 26, 2012

BTW - we think David goes to the mission training center Wednesday Mar 28. He had some kind of mission farewell Sunday and got his hair cut short today. Before the haircut he uploaded 23-second "Before the Cut" vlog.
The Forevermore CD is released and shipping. The Forevermore video will be simultaneously debuted on MYX Philippines and at fan events Mar 31.
In addition he recorded a bunch of covers in the US and recorded one original song just this past Saturday. Plus two photo shoots (one with Matt Clayton)

David is Honduran on his Mom's side and mostly Spanish/Basque or Hispanic of some kind on his father's side. But he's sort of an honorary Filipino. Many there feel that his personality, faith and values are very similar to those of the Filipino people (who are mostly Roman Catholic). David's career is now on hold for 2 years. He has entered the Mormon Mission Training Center. His farewell video blog - "It's Not Goodbye" And a final pic his manager Kari posted - David did this in the style of the worldwide fan slideshow where lots of us showed or held I'll Be Here signs: davidarchuletavn.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/ill-be-back.jpgAnd we have incoming stuff thanks to David working so hard for the fans the last 10 weeks: 1. TV5 is working on subtitled DVD set of the series Nandito Ako 2. Forevermore CD is now shipping (WOWHD, Amazon, Multiply) 3. Mar 31/Apr 1 - premiere of Forevermore music video 4. New US album of covers? classic songs? inspirational? David was working on through yesterday. At least in part produced by Kurt Bestor and John Hancock (and we saw photos of him recording w/ strings). May include an original track. Unknown title/date 5. Multiple photoshoots

Yes - and while David was in the Philippines one his many performances was a surprise to the audience, when he joined Ogie Alcasid and his wife Rene Velasquez Alcasid (aka the Asian songbird) onstage to sing Nandito Ako. Ogie was the original singer of Nandito Ako and it was his version David studied over and over on his trip to the Philippines. Earlier in David's trip he visited with the Alcasids and hung out and jammed with them.
