It's a good video but he kinda looks sad :( and he's losing a lot of weight in his face :( I get worried when that kinda stuff happens to my faves.

I still haven't heard his song in full. I'll get around to it once the album comes out.

It's a good video but he kinda looks sad :( and he's losing a lot of weight in his face :( I get worried when that kinda stuff happens to my faves. The whole thing seems downbeat. Nobody looks particularly happy--or is even having much of a good time--which, together with the drab location, produces a subliminal gloom. Even worse, the editing is out of sync with the beat of the music. Nor has the camera done David any favors. He doesn't look his best here. The whole effort seems slapdash.

^^ I disagree with all your comments. It's a good video but he kinda looks sad :( and he's losing a lot of weight in his face :( I get worried when that kinda stuff happens to my faves. He starts emo but then he's happy in the end! I think the slimmer face is just him losing his baby fat. Plus he eats super healthy and works out and stuff... but he apparently still eats a lot. He's always tweeting about food. lol.

LOL praepos I wasn't critiquing the video when I made that comment, unlike you, I think the video is good, his face just looks gaunt. I'm not sure if it was meant for it to be like that in the video or if he is just stressing a bunch from the book tour and the album deadlines, new management. :(

Praepos, How is confetti and dancing "downbeat"? LOL The song itself doesn't have all happy-happy lyrics so it makes sense to have serious parts but the overriding message is "don't give up" hence the happy ending with confetti, happy nerd, dancing, happy text, etc.
Maybe you should rewatch it in a happier mood. :)

Where are the images of love? Guys playing basketball? A girl and a guy and a skateboard? Kids painting hearts on a wall? It's not just that nothing much happens--but the images in general don't even relate to anything specific, let alone to a concept as profound as love. And throughout David seems isolated and loveless. Not a good vibe.

And throughout David seems isolated and loveless. Not a good vibe. Ok, let me explain the video to you. There are all different kinds of love: friendship love, romantic love, parental love, and even love for humanity (general happiness and helpfulness for your fellow human being). There's no part of the song that describes exactly what kind of love he's referring to. Could be all of them. (1) Basketball scene: A little kid is watching all these older kids playing basketball. He wants to be included. They notice and let him play with them. (Love for a fellow human) (2) Old Lady scene: An older lady drops her bag and all her stuff comes flying out on the ground. A girl stops to help her. (Love for a fellow human) (3) Skateboarding scene: A guy and girl show what is probably the "romantic" love concept with the girl helping the guy learn to skateboard, and just having a good time together. (4) Dorky guy at the party scene: A kind of dorky guy is shy, and he wants to participate in the party but he's kind of a wallflower. Girl comes up to him and starts talking with him, eventually pulling him onto the dancefloor. (Friendship love) (5) David himself: David is not only witnessing all these things happening but is playing a character at the party as well. Somebody who is maybe a little alone, doesn't know many people. He gets a text from a friend saying she'll be there soon. He realizes, "doh, get off your butt and start having fun," and he does. Filming the party, interacting, etc. (Friendship love) And there you go. That's something 'bout love.

I personally love the video and think it fits perfectly with the song and David himself. It's fun, simple, and contemporary. LOVE It

It's a good video but he kinda looks sad :( quote] I agree, he did look sad in the beginning. :( Something seemed off to me about the party scene. The video wasn't bad though. I probably should watch it while listening to the music too.

Filming the party, interacting, etc. (Friendship love) And there you go. That's something 'bout love. You could use some tutoring yourself. Do you really think those scenes depict the situation in the song? The skateboard scene is a case in point. A guy and a girl fooling around may be the beginning of something down the road--but was that the best the director could come up with to depict young love? And yeah, it was nice the big boys let the little kid play and a dork got to dance at a party. But in real life the little kid doesn't get to play with the big kids and the dork has the world come down on him like rain while the girls totally ignore him. But even if real life played out like the director's video, the song is not about being kind to those who need our charitable attention, it's about a wild roller coaster ride and hanging in there and remaining positive when things turn sour. So the theme of the video is as out of sync with the song as its editing is. It's bland and preachy when it should be wild and--at a bare minimum--honest.

There was also the couple right after the skateboarders that looked like they were in love.

Not a rant at all, just a reasoned argument why the video fails. My guess is a lot of fans feel in their gut as I do--but are reluctant to express an honest opinion lest the usual suspects pile on. Too bad. It's not the end of the world--but it's not a triumph either.

Reasoned argument? Since when does the quality of music or any sort of visual art turn on "reasoned argument"? And it sounds like you're saying that a video has to be a literal reenactment of the lyrics of the song or else its not "honest"? And this lack of "honesty" offends you greatly? You must hate a lot of videos then, lol.
I guess I just see this as a fun, not too deep, video with some appealing visual elements and David's typical uplifting, positive imagery. It carries the general vibe of the song and gives the fangirls a lot of long looks into David's ~dreamy~ hazel eyes. And most importantly, it saved Jive plenty of cash to use for more useful promo. :)

And most importantly, it saved Jive plenty of cash to use for more useful promo. :) 1, The quality of the music doesn't turn on reasoned argument--but a personal opinion does. I was giving reasons to support why I thought the video was essentially a hack job. 2. A video doesn't have to be a literal reenactment of the lyrics of a song to be honest. But it should reflect the meaning of the song in some tangential way--or else be a reflection of the real world in some way for it to be taken seriously--otherwise what's the point? If it doesn't reflect the song and it doesn't reflect real life--what's it there for? The answer in this case seems obvious. It's there because the director had to slap something together within a short time frame. The mindlessness shows. Not only in the dumb images used, but also in the sluggish editing that lacks the energy the song itself possesses. That to me is its biggest weakness. Music videos should at least be in sync with the beat of the songs they depict. 3. No, I don't hate a lot of videos. Hate is too strong a word. Most videos earn a shrug. They're hack jobs. You can tell in two seconds if care has been taken with a song. In this instance the director got a lot of young people together and shot some quick footage, hoping for the best. 4. I also hope Jive uses the cash saved for more promo. But I disagree it's a fun video. It has the look of a party that isn't catching on. Nobody seems to be having a particularly good time. David himself is too intense for what purports to be a frothy summer song. As for his sex appeal--it goes without saying his female fans will enjoy anything he does, no matter how mediocre. But the average non-fan viewer, especially males, will not see this as a fun video. David looks and sounds pretty ordinary--and boring. Compare this with how soulful he looked and sounded singing No Air with Jordan for example. There his body was filled with the rhythms and passion of the song--and he looked terrific. Not so much here.

I missed you, praepos :'( Ditto. Praepos, don't worry too hard about defending yourself. Some of us understand what you're getting at. It's nice to think that Jive saving money means more money for David's promo, but really, it's just money for Britney's bags o' Cheetos. Let's be real here. :)

David is obviously pleased with it and to me - and this will sound ultra cheesy - I'm happy that he's happy. I think a lot of what he wanted to communicate was shown in this video so who really cares about whatever else... It's. Just. A. Video. Breathe people

I think the video wasn't necessarily supposed to be all sunshiney and happy, it was supposed to be a bit more...real. Uplifting but not unrealistic either. I think it managed to be uplifting without being too cheesy (like the Crush video which was admittedly a giant ball of cheese).

Ngl, I don't get the praise for the video. It does nothing for me. I'm not even sure how it fits the concept. It's so loosely based on the song. It's like they had a video treatment for an equally ambiguous song and just used it for Archie. It reminded me of the JTTW video, where some parts matched the song but most don't. A mess.

Something Bout Love video premiere! It's so cute! I love it. The video is pretty "cute" in a warm and fuzzy way, but in fairness, both it and the song are rather meh. The Sony/Sony Ericsson product placement was a bit much, lol.
