name those artists that achieved some or a lot of success in some part of their career but for whatever reason lost their hype and seems to never recover that hype again..

.Jennifer Lopez: J-Lo no more..after four Hot 100 number ones and an amount of platinum albums, the girl who once had the #1 film and the #1 album in the USA doesn't exist anymore..since 2005 she's been struggling to keep herself in the charts..
.Janet Jackson: After the Superbowl incident..everything became dark for her..and never could have one hit again..
.Cher: I know, she still has lots of fans..but seems like general public doesn't case about her anymore..

Nelly Ashanti Jennifer Lopez
I don't want to name the divas/legends/icons who were once big and now have reached that age where they can sit back and relax minus J. Lo. She keeps trying.

I like what you did there, but they are still popular. They just aren't ruling the hot 100 charts like they did in their prime.

Just about every artist from yesteryear can be named. Everyone has their peak, and then they fall. That's just how the industry operates.

As much as I love her, Jessica Simpson. It all went downhill after In This Skin and 'Newlyweds'. That era was most definitely her peak in terms of hype and commercial success.

Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Lopez will need miracles to revive their music careers.

I think Janet is recovering her hype. Janet can have a nice film career but there is no indication that her music career will turn around.

Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Janet, Ashanti, Nelly, 50 Cent, Cher, Celine, Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, Paula Abdul, Leona Lewis (US), and maybe the PCD. Cher is 64 this year; she has nothing else to prove. Celine may have stayed in Vegas too long to revive her career. And she'll be 43. BSB, New Kids, Paula, over and out! With Leona's latest flopping, I doubt she can come back. And Sade's latest album, if it goes gold (after more than 9 years away), could push Leona off the U.S. A-list in music for good. PCD, OUT! The others, stick a fork in them. J. Lo had better get back to acting fast, before she finds herself relegated to straight-to-DVD. Janet ought to do more acting. Come to think of it, Fitty ought to take the Ice Cube route, and do action flicks.

Everyone becomes old news at some point. No one sustains the same type of success for their entire career.
It's impossible.

I don't even understand why people are listing Successica... she never even had an OMG-wow-domination moment in her music career. There wasn't a whole lot to fall down from.

Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis (EVERYWHERE, not just US). And MAYBE Sara Bareilles, we'll just have to wait and see..

Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis (EVERYWHERE, not just US). And MAYBE Sara Bareilles, we'll just have to wait and see.. Obviously, as a Jordin fan, I'm biased. But that is ridiculous. Jordin has released five singles in the US, four of which were massive Top 10 CHR hits that sold between 1.4 million and 3.1 million downloads (9 million total), performed well overseas, and peaked between #3 and #17 on the Hot 100. One underperforming single does not undo all of that.

^True. I like Jordin too, but there is unfortunately very little interest in her album and I don't see her having another hit single. I hope I'm wrong though. Maybe an Idol performance will help?

I don't see why she can't have another hit single. Maybe not from this album but if she comes back with strong material, I don't see why it can't hit if her label supports it enough. One underperforming single doesn't ruin an entire career.
It will all depend on how her next era goes, if she comes back big she'll be fine, if not she may have something to worry about.

.Cher: I know, she still has lots of fans..but seems like general public doesn't case about her anymore.. You can never count out Cher. She's a global superstar, she's had more comebacks than anyone and she'll have three songs on the Burlesque soundtrack.

She's a global superstar, she's had more comebacks than anyone and she'll have three songs on the Burlesque soundtrack. She's had 4 periods of brief success (Sonny & Cher, her early solo success, the late 80's revival on the back of Tina Turner's nostalgia-inducing comeback, and when "Believe" was given to her) mixed in with countless years of global single and album floppage. Her career is laughably overrated.
