Top 10? I think that's out of the reckoning. Top 30 would be pretty satisfactory in the whole scheme of things.

Well, it's been a while since their last single, so maybe radio stations will be eager to play this song.

I'd still rather they went with "21st Century Breakdown", but this is a good song too (though it probably won't really do much).

Hopefully. I would like to see this do well enough to warrant a fifth single ("21st Century Breakdown").

Green Day: The group that had one quality album the past 10 years and is being treated like one of the most important groups in the past 30 years, give me a break.
I keep forgetting that I saw GREEN DAY open up for BLINK back in 2002. At that point, they hadn't had a Top 10 hit with the exception of Good Riddance since 1995.
Either way, this song is not that great, Top 30 would've been huge for them.

Either way, this song is not that great, Top 30 would've been huge for them. 1. "Minority" and "Warning" both went Top 10. 2. Green Day and Blink-182 co-headlined on a tour which is probably what you are talking about. If it's the tour with Jimmy Eat World and Saves The Day, it is definitely what you are talking about. 3. They have had three quality albums in the last ten years. Warning, American Idiot, and 21st Century Breakdown. This is purely your opinion you are giving and I have to say it's a pretty terrible one. 4. I would not say Green Day is one of the most important bands of the last 30 years because that would be ridiculous but I would say they are one of the key bands of the 90s, because they broke punk rock back into the mainstream and paved the way for a lot of other bands to have success. Blink-182 may not have had their shot in the light if not for Green Day's prior trailblazing. And their success with American Idiot made them incredibly relevant again in this decade. 5. You seem bitter.

Top 10 on an important chart. Don't get me wrong, Alternative\Indie\Mod. Rock are my favorite types of music, but Green Day...really overrated. Good band, but it surprises me that Foo Fighters, Weezer, NIN, Chris Cornell's band's, PEARL JAM, doesn't seem to get the same love as these guys, maybe because they are staying out of politics, like they should.
I am not bitter at all, I really don't know what I would have to be bitter about.

I don't know either. Maybe you need to look deep inside yourself.
And I don't know what you're talking about when you say those bands don't get love. They get a lot of love, perhaps more love than they should especially in Weezer's case. But then again I don't know what you mean by "important" chart.

"1. "Minority" and "Warning" both went Top 10." Top 10 on an important chart. Are rock acts supposed to think the pop singles charts are important?

I have to agree, compared to the other bands you listed, I never cared for Green Day until "American Idiot" came out. But on the other hand, if that album makes them "the most important group of the past 30 years", then I'm all for it.

See I'm obviously in the minority here (like my username doesn't give it away :) ). Green Day has been one of or if not my favorite band since I first heard "Dookie" when "Longview" was flooding the airwaves back in 1994 and still are today. They're easily the most influential band for me personally and what I listen to as a whole. Them, The Offspring, and others during the 90s punk revival led the way to tons of bands we have heard over the past decade. However, I can't take away fame from any of the bands listed above. Weezer & Foo Fighters have also been a huge part of my musical taste over the past fifteen to twenty years as well and have to be in my Top 5 or 10 favorite all-time bands.

My guess is as history plays out, the two bands in the alternative world that will emerge as the "most important" bands of the last 30 years are U2 and RHCP. Nirvana would also have to be in the running, but I'm guessing that success over the span of those 30 years is an important part of the criteria.

He surely can't be talking about CHR/Pop, where there only Top 10 hit up until 'Boulevard' was 'When I Come Around'.

Going by the usual Pulse vernacular the "important chart" is the Hot 100.
He's just spouting populous nonsense. No need to bring up the countless acts, mainly rock acts, that have so-so to abysmal Hot 100 chart histories yet have sold obscene amount of albums and/or been very influential and/or racked up huge amounts of acclaim regardless.

This is quite radio-friendly; this really shouldn't be going up so slow.
