www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Music/02/01/haiti.we.are.the.world/index.htmlBasically, over 100 stars gathered today, the day after the Grammy awards to work on a re-recording of Michael Jackson's charity song "We Are the World". The remake will go to benfit Haiti. None of the same stars from the original are on the remake, however Lionel Riche and Quincy Jones are taking part in the production. Michael Jackson is also said to have a part in the remake as well. I figured since 100 of music's biggest stars from all genres are participating, this sure to be massive event deserves its own thread.

Some artists confirmed so far...
Fergie Jason Mraz Carrie Underwood Julianne Hough Trey Songz Sugarland Anthony Hamilton Usher
Alot of the Grammy stars seen on Sunday are expected to take part seeing as how they were already in LA. I'd expect Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Pink, and many others to be a part of this spectacular line up of musical royalty.

Not anything in the way of music royalty based on the confirmed acts. Then again, not many of the younger acts out now would qualify as such. However, Pink, Beyonce, Swift and Gaga (can't imagine here, though) would be big additions, not to mention the it act of the moment, Lady A.

'We Are The World' Remake Brings Lil Wayne, P!nk, More Together For Haiti Kanye West, Jennifer Hudson, Barbra Streisand and even Vince Vaughn unite for the epic recording session. LOS ANGELES -- The energy was electric Monday night (February 1) at Henson Studios as more than 80 of music's biggest stars gathered for a charity remake of "We Are the World" in support of Haitian earthquake relief. "I feel like a kid in a candy store," Wyclef Jean said, speaking to the press about the idea of remaking such an iconic song, which is getting production help from RedOne and Will.I.Am. "What's bigger than a contribution is that you lend your voice," the Haitian native said earlier in the day to his peers while trying to inspire them during the session, which began around 3 p.m. and was expected to last well into the night. Among the voices in the 81-member choir were Pink, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Nick Jonas, LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, Celine Dion, Akon, Rob Thomas, Wyclef, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Barbra Streisand, Jordin Sparks, Good Charlotte's Madden brothers, Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, Tyrese, Katharine McPhee, Sean Garrett, Will.I.Am, Carlos Santana, Melanie Fiona, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, Jason Mraz, Miley Cyrus, Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger, Nicole Richie, Usher, Julianne Hough, Raphael Saadiq, Zac Brown, India.Arie, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson, Musiq Soulchild, Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson, Fonzworth Bentley, Kid Cudi, Iyaz, Bizzy Bone, Nipsey Hussle, the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, Trey Songz, Faith Evans, Mya and Gladys Knight. (At press time, the full list of participants was not yet available.) Kanye, wearing a red jacket with sparkling gold crisscross accents, stood center in the front row, between Wyclef and Hudson. Among the soloists whose sessions were screened for journalists at press time were Bieber, Dion and Groban. Weezy also came out and humbly noted that he recorded the solo originally sung by Bob Dylan. The inspirational lyrics were laid down over a track that had a more modern Southern hip-hop bounce to it. The recording session took place almost 25 years to the day since the original song for African famine relief was recorded. "The experience was out of this world," said Bieber, who sang Lionel Richie's original opening line. The video for the song, which is being shot in 3-D, will debut February 12. www.mtv.com/news/articles/1631018/20100202/lil_wayne.jhtml

Flopzinger has become so flopowerful she's about to make 80 other acts flop all at once, on the same track.

I know this is probably going to rub some people the wrong way, but why do I think this smacks of a publicity ploy?
The last time this was done, I thought it was an obvious attempt to outdo Band-Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" When the Brits recorded that, there was little doubt there was a genuine charitable purpose for that tune. They weren't looking to make history; they were looking to turn the average bloke's attention to the tragedy in Ethiopia. When the U.S. responded with "We Are The World", it struck me as more a response than being genuine. It got the public's attention in this country, but it still struck me as a response record.
Now, a remake. Why a remake? Surely someone could write something new that is worthy of its purpose, than to recycle what is already regarded as historic. We've already recycled and/or remade Halloween, Battlestar Galactica, etc., some for better, some for worse, but an overdose of remakes nonetheless, and it devalues the purpose.
I happen to think that, for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, someone should have written a new song that could have been sung by this ensemble, a song that unquestionably fit the purpose, which is a bit different than the purpose represented by "We Are The World". Are the people, who decided that this was the right time to remake the song, genuinely interested in drawing more attention to the tragedy (and I must say that the whole world knows about it by now), or are they using the aftermath as an excuse to remake this song?

This sounds like the biggest hot mess of all time. It seems as if you're thinking what I'm thinking. It is not lost on anyone that this is the 25th anniversary of the song, and needless to say, there was never a more opportunistic excuse to remake the song than what happened in Haiti. Is this remake to call more attention to the tragedy, or is it to pay another tribute to Michael Jackson, who co-wrote the song with Lionel Richie? If it's to pay him another tribute, and perhaps to put Lionel back in the spotlight, I dare say that, even as endlessly charitable as Michael was, I don't think he would approve at all.

I know its for a good cause so I'm not hating but this song particularly did not need a remake. They should have just gone with a new song.

Wow. Some people have to heart. This song is for Haiti relief.
Anyway, NOBODY can use this song when saying how many TOP 10s a particular artist has, much like Stand up to Cancer.

so sick of these haiti relief tracks, too many right now... this will indeed be a hot mess, rappers, Nicole Scherzinger, are you kiding me? it's gonna be ridiculous lol F.Y.I....rappers are the most talented people who can really express their feelings...listen to DRUNK BY MYSELF AND WHEN I'M GONE!!nobody could do better than those 2 songs, if u listen to them and gave a respond with a better song then i'll stop listening to RAP...rap is culture, and rappers are the best in describing life, because they really been through it, i'm not talkin about rich rappers that came in 05 and so..i'm talkin about eminem, nas, 50, pac, biggie, ice cube, and the list goes on....hate rap all u want, but they are the best, R&B Is all Auto-tune right now, that means no talent, and ghostwriting!!if rappers weren't the best to describe horrible things and make wonderful tribute to their dears then u would have not heard the word "CONTROVERSY"...thats all i wanted to say...

MTV reports that Lil Wayne’s been added to the fray and will recite Bob Dylan’s (3:53 mark) portion of the recording. Other MC’s included in the session were Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, LL Cool J, Swizz Beatz, T-Pain, Wyclef Jean, Will.I.Am, Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi, Drake, Nipsey Hussle and Bizzy Bone.......STAY MAD!!
