Go look at just about any singer-songwriter for example.

did I ever say otherwise? I just posted what I posted because, in my opinion, rappers shouldn't be in this song, I don't think it's a song adequate for a rapper to me Jay-Z and Eminem aren’t the only rappers featured on the “We Are The World” remake. MTV reports that Lil Wayne’s been added to the fray and will recite Bob Dylan’s (3:53 mark) portion of the recording. Other MC’s included in the session were Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, LL Cool J, Swizz Beatz, T-Pain, Wyclef Jean, Will.I.Am, Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi, Drake, Nipsey Hussle and Bizzy Bone.......STAY MAD!! the only mad is you, not me and I stand by what I said

What happened to the big named stars rumored to be a part of this? odd.
Alicia Keys, Bono, Lady Gaga, Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood were all said to take part, and none of them was there. I am surprised Taylor Swift wasn't there either. No Lady Antebellum, no Keith Urban or Kenny chesney or Carrie for country. Instead, they have Zac Brown band, a very new act, Julianne Hough, who is not really doing that well (though I like her), and Katherine McPhee and Jordin Sparks?
I thought Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Key, Sheryl Crow were confirmed?
Where is Daughtry and Kelly Clarkson, Carrie, Beyonce, Rihanna?
Some of the names on that list are selling 12k in their debut album week sales. I can't believe they couldn't get more big names?

Babs, royalty, yes. Celine Dion (Babs' spawn), less so- commercial royalty and a big name, sure.
Some of those names do add to the "hot mess" aspect of it- but, remember- LaToya Jackson was in the original, so it wasn't all great acts on that one.

Celine, Barbra, Sugarland, Pink, Will. I Am, Usher, Miley, Gladys Knight so much for the no big stars whining. And since when did this have anything to do with record sales? So you need to have a platinum CD to be involved with a charity benefit for people devastated by an earthquake? Sometimes the comments here are ridiculous. As far as Kat being involved, she has worked with Lionel and performed at the Lionel Richie tribute event that just aired on BET this past weekend. She has been involved in a great deal of charitable work behind the scenes including building a school in Africa but has never publicized it. That is why they invited her.

*DEAD* at people saying the original was garbage. Are you kidding? We Are The World is a classic. I bet Prince, Madonna, and all those other no-shows wish they could go back in time and hop on it with the rest of them legends.
This version, however, looks like it's shaping up to be one hot mess. Nicole Flerpazinger? Like are you serious? Mya's vocals are gonna sound like Bodyguard Nippy compared to her. I mean she isn't even floating in D in terms of star power she is straight F-list. The floppiest of flops on the same record with Barbra and Gladys. SMH. And who was gonna invite Feminem? He displayed no respect and honor for Michael while he was living. How dare they even consider putting that pussy on this single.

It was over the top schmaltzy garbage, like all charity singles. Madonna wasn't invited. Remember the entire industry hated and scoffed at her at that time. She had the #1 song and album in the world then and that made them hate her even more. "Crazy For You" ended up knocking "We Are The World" out of #1 on the Hot 100, making the snub all the more noticeable and look even more ridiculous.

'We Are The World' Remake Brings Lil Wayne, P!nk, More Together For Haiti Kanye West, Jennifer Hudson, Barbra Streisand and even Vince Vaughn unite for the epic recording session. LOS ANGELES -- The energy was electric Monday night (February 1) at Henson Studios as more than 80 of music's biggest stars gathered for a charity remake of "We Are the World" in support of Haitian earthquake relief. "I feel like a kid in a candy store," Wyclef Jean said, speaking to the press about the idea of remaking such an iconic song, which is getting production help from RedOne and Will.I.Am. "What's bigger than a contribution is that you lend your voice," the Haitian native said earlier in the day to his peers while trying to inspire them during the session, which began around 3 p.m. and was expected to last well into the night. Among the voices in the 81-member choir were Pink, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Nick Jonas, LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, Celine Dion, Akon, Rob Thomas, Wyclef, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Barbra Streisand, Jordin Sparks, Good Charlotte's Madden brothers, Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, Tyrese, Katharine McPhee, Sean Garrett, Will.I.Am, Carlos Santana, Melanie Fiona, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, Jason Mraz, Miley Cyrus, Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger, Nicole Richie, Usher, Julianne Hough, Raphael Saadiq, Zac Brown, India.Arie, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson, Musiq Soulchild, Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson, Fonzworth Bentley, Kid Cudi, Iyaz, Bizzy Bone, Nipsey Hussle, the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, Trey Songz, Faith Evans, Mya and Gladys Knight. (At press time, the full list of participants was not yet available.) Kanye, wearing a red jacket with sparkling gold crisscross accents, stood center in the front row, between Wyclef and Hudson. Among the soloists whose sessions were screened for journalists at press time were Bieber, Dion and Groban. Weezy also came out and humbly noted that he recorded the solo originally sung by Bob Dylan. The inspirational lyrics were laid down over a track that had a more modern Southern hip-hop bounce to it. The recording session took place almost 25 years to the day since the original song for African famine relief was recorded. "The experience was out of this world," said Bieber, who sang Lionel Richie's original opening line. The video for the song, which is being shot in 3-D, will debut February 12. www.mtv.com/news/articles/1631018/20100202/lil_wayne.jhtml Well, she's finally done it. Flopzinger has become so flopowerful she's about to make 80 other acts flop all at once, on the same track. LMAO!

I LOVE Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand and most of the names on the list... so my comment wasn't meant to disparage them. I was merely commenting on the lack of other so-called confirmed big stars there. Many articles confirmed Bono and Lady Gaga, Jay=Z, etc, so it is just odd that they were all wrong, even CNN. lol I guess we can't trust CNN either as they confirmed Carrie. lol

And yea perhaps because she had a different attitude at that time.

Just not the ones you mentioned. There are a lot of well known people out there that aren't necessarily big on these boards. Celine Dion, Barbara Striesand, Pink, just to name a few. I also read that they didn't want anyone involved that was on the first recording. Wasn't Bono of the first one? I will agree that they did get some second tier artists but I'm sure they won't be given a lead vocal. My favorite artist is participating so I'm cool with it.

It really looks like a few artists were actually invited and the rest had their management or agent get them the invite. The list is a strange mess of big names and smaller artists. With the first We Are The World, I was just a little thing and not only did I recognize 95% of the artists, but most all of them had been relevant for at least a couple of years. I can't say that about this year's list.
And sorry, there were "second tier" artists that got a solo. I don't consider Justin Bieber a "first tier" artist, regardless of how good his management is. When I found out he was given the opening solo, it just kind of made the whole thing seem like a mad rush by artists for positioning and status, rather than something wholly driven by charitable purposes. If they wanted to make a truly amazing single, they would have given solos to only those who can really elevate a song--real, true singers. Not Miley and Bieber. Both of them are products of great marketing--not great talent, and you would think somebody like Quincy Jones could tell the difference.

They want this song to do well, this is about raising money and plain and simple, they'll raise more money with Miley and Justin are on this track then they would without them. and i don't understand how you can say that someone didn't do this for charitable reasons just because they were given a solo.

Well, you don't understand because I didn't actually say that. I said the whole thing looks more like a product of positioning and attempts to gain status because a solo was given to a newbie without much of a track record. Come on, that's weird. I didn't say Bieber wasn't charitable. I didn't say anything about the specific motives of individual artists. And there can be duel motives--artists who want to be charitable but also want the status of being part of the remake. What I did say about Justin and Miley is that they aren't very good singers. I didn't say the single wouldn't sell with them on it--I have no idea how it'll sell. I just would have liked the track to be more about quality and reflect real musicianship. The first version of the song was like that. But I suppose if you think Justin and Miley are the best thing since sliced bread, and can sing a song as well as any artist out there, you're not going to agree with me.
