No change in the Billboard audience numbers due to new arbitron ratings, but they did axe another station from the panel--KIIM in Tucson, AZ, was removed for the same reason the 2 Dallas stations and the Reno, NV, station were removed--not playing enough current music. Billboard requires that the stations on the panel must have a minimum of 18 of their top 30 played songs in a given week be current songs.
I'm hoping there will be something written up in tonight's Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart about the change in audience there. And, if our assumption that it was caused by new arbitron numbers is correct, hopefully Billboard will update with the new arbitron ratings, otherwise it gets really tough to get a ratio of Billboard audience to Mediabase audience, which in turn makes it much more difficult to predict how the Billboard chart will come out.

Strange. Yesterday I received in my inbox the Billboard Country Update as music biz country. This afternoon I recieved it as the B.C.U.. Anyone else having that 'unique problem'?

I love how the call out scores are totally different. One has Glass and Kissed You Goodnight in the Bottom 10 songs and the other has them in the top 10?? Wierd

The chart is getting so strange lately, with how everything stacks up. Typically the #10 song has around 20-22 million. Right now, Kenny's "Come Over" is #10 with almost 25 million. And there have been weeks recently where the songs in the 7-10 range have had 26-29 million or so, which is quite high for those positions. Plus, on a few charts, we've had as many as 5 or 6 songs above 30 million or even 32 million all at once.
The main thing I wanted to bring up is at the bottom of the chart, and I think it's evidence that the top songs gettings a lot more spins per week is hurting songs mainly outside the top 40. Usually, about 2 million is good enough to land in the top 40--that's just a general rule of thumb or guideline I remember. If a song posts a 2 million audience total, it's typically gonna be around the #40 mark. For #30, it's usually 5-6 million, and for #20, about 10-11 million.
Anyway, the #40 song (Edens Edge) has 2.560 million but #39 Jake Owen is over 3 million. Not a huge deal yet, but that is somewhat odd, as usually at 3 million, you'd be a few spots higher. What is especially odd is that #44 Jon Pardi has 2 million, and usually he'd be at #40 or so, and it gets weirder from there. Scotty's at #45 with about 1.7 million, but then #46, Montgomery Gentry, has only 815k? Wow, HUGE gap there between #44 and #46. Jon Pardi also has more than 3 times as many spins as MG does. It's like everyone from #46 down on the current chart is just absolutely starved for spins.
I just thought it was very weird, how everything was stacked up tonight especially.

It just shows that radio is getting worse for overspinning the top 10 songs and beating them to death! By the time songs get that high on the chart I find myself turning the station whether I like the song or not cause I'm so sick of it by then! If just a handful of those spins per day went to the newer songs on the bottom or mid level of the chart, radio would be much more pleasant to listen to.
