I also feel strange, too! And overspinning the top 20 songs makes many songs outside the Top 20 even from big star like Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts gain unusually slow.

Does Darryl Worley set some kind of record for longest time on the chart before making the top 40 or what about lowest audience total to make the top 40?

Rhett dropping surprised me too. Thomas Rhett lost 90k on Billboard last week, and dropped about 900k on Mediabase this week and his bullet is at almost -100. Nothing against him, but I'm glad Billboard pulled him. One spot for some songs to move up is better than no spots.

That was a really nice write-up on Eric Paslay on the front page of tonight's BCU. He really has had a good year as a songwriter, scoring #1 hits with "Barefoot Blue Jean Night", "Even If It Breaks Your Heart", and "Angel Eyes". I wish David Nail's "She Rides Away" (another Eric co-write) had been released, as I think that one had big time hit potential. Maybe Eric should just record it himself. I really like the songs he's written--he's definitely become a favorite new artist of mine. And I completely agree that "If The Fish Don't Bite" should've been a hit but I understand why it wasn't and am glad the write-up shed some light on the whole situation. It's interesting that Luke Bryan wanted that song...I'm sure he would've turned it into a big hit, likely a #1. Hopefully 2013 brings Eric Paslay his first hit as a singer!

Just sayin. ;) I'm stating the obvious here but the "revised" Billboard Hot Country Songs chart (now that the airplay only chart is known as the Billboard Country Airplay chart) is likely to be the promised hybrid chart that incorporates download sales alongside airplay, right? The methodology should be interesting. There's a part of me that isn't looking forward to a new chart for labels to bray about in trade ads. But I think the interesting part of the chart will be to see if the hybrid chart can identify potential hit songs from non-core artists on the format before the airplay chart does. Then again, we already have a Hot Digital Songs chart for the country genre, and Billboard Country Update already covers it.

Then again, we already have a Hot Digital Songs chart for the country genre, and Billboard Country Update already covers it. I was wondering that today as well, mainly because of what Jonsolo posted in the Whitburn thread: I clicked over at the Sample Pages, to see a random listing of Luke Bryan, Zac Brown, and Blake Shelton's discographies (obviously that won't be actual, as the book is in alphabetical order). Looks like a similar format as in years past, though I'm not sure if I like how they only have "2000s" rankings for each artist, and not an additional "2010s" ranking. I wonder if they'll combine all the points from 2000 to 2012, and have one "super-sized" decade ranking, instead of separating them out. That's strange if that's the way they did it, as in the 2002 edition, they had a list for the 2000~2001 points. This had me wondering if Whitburn was going to make a cut-off that coordinated to a potential change made by Billboard, aka, a hybrid chart coming into play. I'm not sure if the Thursday update will be the hybrid chart but it wouldn't surprise me either way. I am looking forward to getting these new updates and new chart, in order to see if I like them or not.

Taylor's promo singles that sell 300k+ each week will be #1 on the hybrid chart, blocking out "Blown Away" from Billboard #1 for the next 3 weeks. The meltdown from Carrie stans on this board!

I don't mind if Taylor blocks Carrie as long as the song itself is COUNTRY. I think it is ridiculous for "Eyes Open" and WANEGBT (pop version) to be counted as country on the charts. There should be a rule that only songs released to country radio can be on country charts.

^I don't think they ever counted "Eyes Open". Or maybe it did show up on Country Digital songs, but IF there is a hybrid chart combining airplay and sales in the near future, I don't think it would include any songs not released to country radio.
But I hate the idea of the chart. Surely the people behind these decisions have to have realized that it would greatly skew towards all the pop-crossover acts, while a lot of the older superstars who don't sell that many singles (because their fanbases don't consist of the rabid young fans that Taylor and others have) would be negatively affected. I mean, Alan Jackson and George Strait are already in their twilight years at country radio, but with single sales affecting the chart, they'd be pushed out the door even quicker. Even guys like Toby Keith, Keith Urban, and Tim McGraw--all of whom got their starts pre-2000--don't sell singles by the bucket-load like Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, etc. all do. I just think a chart that included single sales in it would greatly favor the more pop-crossover acts like Carrie, Taylor, Lady A, Hunter, etc. I like all of those artists but I don't want them dominating the country chart for the simple reason that they have more appeal to less conservative country fans or even non-country fans. So I really am against a hybrid chart...I understand the importance of single sales, but if they want to draw more attention to that, just expand the current Country Digital Songs chart and analyze SoundScan data in the weekly reports. The way it is now, it's published every week but they don't really address it. I'd love for them to report SoundScan figures each week and maybe have a written column that addresses the movement on the sales chart. But please, keep it separate from the airplay chart.
