I wonder if he knows that he looks a gigabillion times better without all that gunk on his face and without the spikes, glitter and tight pants? And this is coming from a person who doesn't really find him all that attractive to begin with. But his look getting off the plane in Japan is worth a thousand of what he looked like on stage later on. But I guess that look isn't ridiculous or outrageous enough. He doesn't carry his outrageousness through to real life, like Lady Gaga does (she's always dressed oddly), so it kind of makes you wonder why he does it at all if it's not part of his actual, real-life persona. Is it just to be outrageous for its own sake or does he think a mass audience would stop caring if he doesn't give them something sparkly and loud to look at while he's singing? All valid questions, soundscene. I think Adam is really cool, and do I think he looks a lot better without his face caked with foundation? Yes, and I personally would like to take a cotton ball to his face. Does he set himself up for parody and ridicule because of it? Yes. Do I think his crazy outfits are outrageous and ridiculous? Yes. However, do I find him far more interesting that he does all of this and isn't ashamed and doesn't really care about his detractors? Yes, and I think that's why the media is so hung up on him and why even those who roll his eyes at him or shake their heads in disgust are still aware of him. Whether you love him, hate him, or don't really get him, you have to admit that he does stand out. Everyone has an opinion. I disagree that him in shades, a beanie, and sweats (his outfit getting off the airplane) would work a lot better than what he had on for Mardi Gras or for a performance in Japan where crazy fashion is a large part of the culture. So, actually, yes, you're right, such an outfit isn't ridiculous or outrageous enough and it would have been a huge disappointment if he showed up like that to those performances. Besides, I gotta say that Adam had absolutely nothing on some of those drag queens in Australia. What I like about him is that his look is actually pretty fluid. He gets the most attention for his crazy, glam looks because it's unusual and gender-bending and just plain weird for what we're used to seeing in USA, especially from our male pop singers. Yet, most of his performances on this promo tour are more subdued with him just singing with a guitar and drums without any crazy, OTT look (for him) with relatively soft vocals that usually go over pretty well with the mainstream public. His performance matches the culture of the audience before him, not necessarily me or the person sitting at home. I don't think the question "Which side is the real Adam Lambert?" works very well with him, because I actually think he is all of the sides that he shows us. I find his acoustic, softer performances and looks just as authentic as the crazier, wild ones, and it looks like he believes in all of his performances. I disagree that Adam hasn't always dressed oddly on the stage. He definitely has for The Zodiac Show, Burning Man, and many of the other pre-Idol club performances I've seen pictures of, but American Idol is no Zodiac Show. That's not the audience for tight pants and rhinestones and glitter if he wanted to be voted through. He didn't show his other sides until the KISS performance at the very, very end where there was nothing at stake. I just watched an interview where they asked him if he is as crazy off-stage as he is on, and he said that he is always himself but a more amplified, exaggerated version of himself on stage. I get that. It's not like he's Joe Next Door off the stage either. Even at the airport, he was wearing furry boots. Judging by his past and current influences, I'd say that he has always been inspired by theatricality and glamour. I'm not sure if he has any kind of motive or statement behind it. I think he just likes to wear makeup and glitter, lol. Not everyone is going to like Adam or his music, and his weird/constantly changing image is going to be a problem with a lot of people. Then again, I think that makes him that much more intriguing for his fans or people like me who would not even have paid attention to him otherwise (I'm not an Idol fan at all). And finally, yes, being outrageous with an attitude is not enough and it is off-putting. He wouldn't even be relevant if he didn't have talent and good music (and neither would Lady Gaga), but luckily he does. His main challenge is to sell his music as much as he sells his image and not have so many people turn away as soon as they see makeup on a guy.

Adam did AWESOME today on Sukkiri! Here's the interview portion. The Japanese LOVED him and compared him to Elvis and MJ, petted him, literally, like a pet bunny, talked about his connection to Gaga, and showed him a special message that Orianthi recorded for him: Here's Adam's performance on the show. He did "For Your Entertainment" and did AWESOME. This is his best performance of the song. They cut down the song by a minute though, so it sounds a little different, and the audio is out of sync in this vid, but oh well. It's still a great performance: Here's another interview portion that aired after his performance: He did awesome! His makeup looked AMAZING!!! I love it! Here's the FULL Sukkiri appearance (All 9 minutes, uninterrupted)

I really don't know, but i would guess he wears it, because he likes it. I don't think it's much deeper than that (of course he knows it would make headlines, but he's dressing like that since his hollywood era and all people are becoming their own person after hitting the 20's, it's pretty usual IMO). He's coming from underground clubs, so he's just doing what he knows. And he has one advantage, when he starts singing (and it's definitely not everyones cup of tea), his voice itself IS actually attention grabbing. His voice really is huge, like really really huuuuge (and for everyone who's saying lot of people are able to do that, just give me proof please, telling me just isn't enough). As for Gaga, there are floating youtubes of her in cutesy girly dresses playing classical piano with little make-up and dark simple hair till 2007. She's just copying Annie Lennox's schtick. And surprisingly she is lacking in charisma department quite a bit during interviews.

Given Adam's mind-blowing reception in Japan and Singapore I think he's found where his target audience is. Asia is eating him up with a spoon.

I like the way he dresses- it's a nice throwback to earlier days- Yeah, but I think Adam's record company wants him to sell a few more albums than Billy Idol managed too. Hey, Adam can be as loud as he wants to and I think the look he is supporting will play a lot better in Asia than even Australia or Europe. So my guess he'll tone it down when he gets to Europe. But is that the kind of artist he wants to me? He has to remember where he is so he can know which Adam face to put on. Too early in his career to really see how this ends up but I personally like the artists I like to be about the music first and foremost. Once again, his music is totally secondary to his look at this point in time. Same for Lady Gaga, too (but she has backed it up with some great singles so far).

Yeah, enough.
Look, personally, I have no use for posts in which how a person looks is the only content. I'm willing to allow some latitude if posts have other legitimate content and in the context of discussions about how looks can impact a person's career. But Pulse is not the board to be having .gif wars. It is also not a place where you can all snipe at each other about how Adam is hot/is not/is too/I know you're not but what am I.
And this pathetic Clay Aiken-Adam Lambert fan-warring crap in each artist's thread (whether it's subtext or explicit) is going to earn a good number of you warnings. Which is fine by me, frankly, because the more warnings you get, the closer you will be to the suspension of your board membership and the less of this nonsense the rest of us will have to endure.

The actual video from where those caps came from was actually pretty cute: Content? Here's Adam's UK Promo so far. This is not complete, but it's what we have so far: He's also performing at G-A-Y in April. He is returning to the UK in April for more promo, including TV performances. I know Adam has been scheduled for Idol, but he's either going to be on in the first couple of weeks of April or in May because he'll be out of the country for a good long while. After the UK, he goes to Germany, and then Sweden. Then presumably back to the US for a teeny bit (like, 2 weeks), and then back to the UK.

Did anybody notice that last night on Idol Kara compared Adam to Siobhan? I have no idea what she was thinking. I thought there was absolutely nothing alike between the two. I think Kara is a bit confused. ??? Kara is always confused. She has only one season of Idol contestants to reference - season 8 - and so she drags names from that season out to compare to season 9 contestants. For a songwriter she also gets a lot of modern music history wrong. When Danny Gokey sang "Dream On" last year she said that he should have sang some classic Aerosmith, and then named Aerosmith songs from the 90s. Uhhhhhh... Siobhan is an awkward personality with a big voice. She has no ego, she doesn't come from theater, and she's a mega-Hanson fan. Which means she loves organic band music (all you need are t-shirts and jeans, instruments & you have a concert)--probably as opposite as you can get from Adam. But whatever... Kara compared Andrew Garcia to Adam during the Hollywood rounds and that made no sense either. The judges are grading on a major curve this year because most of the contestants are so bad. Randy said lil Rascal Flatts-wannabe Aaron Kelly reminded him of Justin Timberlake, and Simon said Aaron needs to be more like Justin Bieber. It's like they all took the LSD Adam did when he discovered he needed to audition for the show.

I can kiiinda see why they compared Siobhan to Adam. I know lots of Adam fans like her because she's "different" but that's where the similarities end. There's nothing remotely similar about their voices, their style of music...nothing.
That said, I DO like Siobhan and hope she does well.

I don't really see how Siobhan is "different." She just has an awkward, almost shy, I-don't-care-if-you-think-I'm-a-dork personality. But so have other successful contestants.
I also like Siobhan, but her performance last night wasn't her best.

Well I noticed the comparison myself before Kara even said anything. They are very much alike- in fact, it reminded me a lot of Adam's "Feeling Good" AI performance although his was a little better- I mean, I LOVE her now, I LOVE the fact that she is like him because I personally love that type of singing. But it's pretty easy to see they are alike in ways.

They sound nothing alike... not getting the comparison at all. Not everybody with a big voice is like Adam. I like Siobhan, and I pretty much couldn't stand a single one of Adam's performances on Idol.

She's quirky, and not very Idol-y. Whereas someone like Katie is typical Idol fare, we haven't really had a Siobhan before. Same with Adam. On the topic of Adam vs. S9 contestants, I thought this was interesting: buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/93484Interesting.

Lol she likes Hanson? That's pretty cool. I grew up on their music.
This Norwegian Adam interview was posted yesterday, but now it's finally in sync instead of weird and stuttery.
Interesting facts? Adam is half Scandinavian, and his Dad lived in Norway, and his grandfather was a Physics professor in Norway

She has a Hanson-related tattoo on her arm & said they would be the perfect guest mentors.
And this season all-around sucks because most of the contestants aren't all that interesting (and the ones that are just look more interesting because they're compared with the other dull contestants). So of course there are less searches than last year.
I just see Siobhan as a belter. lol. Maybe because over the last couple years the show has become "arrangement Idol" so belters seem like the odd ones now. Kelly Clarkson would seem quirky if she were on this season.

Folks, if you wish to discuss Siobhan Magnus (and thank you for not taking the bait to fan war over that mention), we have an American Idol Season 9 thread where you can discuss her. This thread is to discuss Adam Lambert, not Siobhan Magnus or the overall quality of American Idol's ninth season, and is not to be treated as a catch-all chatroom for anyone who cares to read it. The post above mine didn't so much as mention Adam Lambert.

Me too, i liked Adam on the show (some weeks better than others) but than when the album came out i listened to it few times and it kinda left me cold. Now i listen to it all the time (and i also love all those bonus tracks). I had the same experience with Rated R.

Well, this is interesting. It looks like Stars on Ice is doing a routine to "Strut": bit.ly/d1WnhhToo bad Johnny Weir won't be there. But, yay, I can't wait to see what they have in store!

A contestant on Australian SYTYCD danced to FYE for his solo. It was freestyle.
And it looks like a group of high school girls danced to Fever for a performance:
Cute!!!
Adam's on his way to the UK right now to do more promo.
ETA-Here's a new interview from Singapore that Adam did with Channel NewsAsia:
He also did a surprise Ustream appearance for his Japanese fans last night:

Sioban's a quirky, introspective goth chick. And Adam is not.... Big voices aside, they have nothing in common.

This is the funniest CD promotion I have ever seen in my life. In Hong Kong, you get a free condom with Adam's CD. Yay for safe sex promo!! I seriously want more details on this. That's HYSTERICAL. Also, here's 2 new interviews from Australia. Adam kisses a female DJ in this one: Adam does a game with the male DJ's where they act out different scenarios, and Adam picks his favorite guy:

It must be a Sony music thing, since they're under the same label. I think it's pretty darn awesome that an openly gay man's CD comes with condoms though. Pretty cool. Here's another interview Adam did in Japan. I'm really liking his outfit. He has some really nice things to say about male standards of beauty in Japan as well as what it means to be gay in the entertainment industry. I also think it's awesome that an openly gay man is featured like any other guy in a teen pinup magazine: Hee! Adam is totally going straight. Or not :)
