Usher's not doing as well as he could because he hasn't been getting the same type of crossover support on pop radio like he did during the Confessions era. It's as simple as that.
TV appearances are always key but lets be real. Radio makes or breaks. Taylor Swift & Lady Gaga not only dominated their respective home turfs (Country and Pop) but crossed over and whored out multiple formats.

"OMG" is catching on at Pop radio, but I'm not sure if that will do anything for Usher in the long run. Once "OMG" dies down, which I can only imagine soon, what else from that album will crossover?

Nothing. And it will continue to slide down the charts as a consequence.

^ "she don't know" and "lil freak" maybe only cross over to rhythmic, but that's where the album/single sales come from for urban-leaning artists. just ask B.o.b and Kid Cudi.

Rhythmic is not cross-over for R&B artists. It is his staple along with Urban. Pop is the swing. And since he isn't getting the same type of success as he has in the past it's reflected in his album sales.

Usher's still doing better than just about every male R&B singer around these days; support from Pop radio is nice, but he doesn't need it to enjoy a respectable amount of success. That said, 'OMG' is just now taking off on Pop radio; if it goes to the upper echelons of that chart it'll be around for a while and sell a lot of albums over time.

Apparently, Usher needs some sort of Pop support to sell albums because this second week drop is pretty crucial and his urban success doesn't seem to be doing that much to help it.

I don't think the drop is THAT severe. Yes, it's more than your typical 60-70%, but not by much, and promo seems to have tapered off after the first week.

^ idk, i think it will be right at the 70%, maybe like 75% max. hopefully, his urban success will keep him afloat. remember, Hey Daddy is still climbing, Lil Freak hasn't gotten an adds date (or at least hasn't been sent for adds), There Goes My Baby is still growing, and so is OMG

I have a feeling that "So Many Girls" will be released as a followup for Pop Radio.
This was the week that concerned me for him - but with "OMG" gaining in popularity he should be able to get to Platinum, possibly double platinum if another song crosses over (either Guilty or So Many Girls).

If he ever wants to go multi-platinum again he'll need it. But yes, he should be able to post some decent numbers without it.

He needs to save that for the late summer/early fall. He has released too many songs as it is. He needs to spread the rest of his singles out so this era will have some longevity. I think him having multiple singles impacting radio, even if they are all serviced to different formats, is playing a negative in the reception of this album thus far.

YES - happy for Madonna, Sharon Jones, & Jonsi! Surprisingly high placing for John Butler Trio too - great for them! MGMT for #1 next week?

Looks like everyone took a steep drop. I still didn't know Easter weekend was an important weekend for album sales.
Who will be contending for #1 next week? I think Justin will be bumped down some.

This Week, the entire top 10 sold less than the top 10 did last year and it takes less than 10,000 copies to make the top 40 on the HITS list this week.

Who will be contending for #1 next week? I think Justin will be bumped down some. Other than MGMT, none really. I see them doing a Vampire Weekend on us and shifting 150K+ first week! Coheed & Cambria have a new album out - they should be top 5.

Well, yes. MGMT seems to be the likely #1 next week. Their fanbase and the public awareness have suddenly grown since their debut. I expect Justin to do around 70-80k and Usher to do a little less than that. So, I predict MGMT for 100k+.

I can't imagine HITS counted the Blu-Ray sales with the CD/DVD, so Madge has a good shot to hold in the top 10 when the final SoundScan numbers hit (4,500 separate her from #10 on the HITS list). Hopefully there will be a report of how much the Blu-Ray sold, too.
Yeow at Usha's 75% dip (though the SoundScan drop may be a little less).

#10 to 15 are less than 2,000 sales away, so in the SoundScan numbers it can really change between them, number 9 as well, possibly (2,600 away).
