B.o.B. GOT SOMETHIN’ ON CHART
Atlantic Records Rapper and T.I. Protégé Will Bow at #1, Bullet for My Valentine, Melissa Etheridge Debut
April 28, 2010
Atlanta-born Bobby Ray Simmons, better known as B.o.B., looks to top the HITS album sales chart next week with his Grand Hustle/Atlantic debut, B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. Based on one-day sales reports and the abacus employed by our crack(ed?) retail department, the album is headed for between 80-85k in sales, which should put it comfortably on top.
A prodigy of T.I., whose label he records for, B.o.B.’s debut is being fueled by the smash single, “Nothin’ on You,” featuring Bruno Mars, which has already sold 1.6 million downloads. Aside from T.I., the album features contributions from an eclectic cast that includes Eminem, Janelle Monae and Lupe Fiasco, as will as alternative stars Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo.
Next highest debut appears to be Jive/RED’s veteran Welsh metalcore band Bullet for My Valentine with their third album, Fever, which cements comparisons to bands like Metallica, slated to do an impressive 65-70k.
Island/IDJ Grammy-winning rock singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge’s latest, Fearless Love, is on target for a debut week of 40-45k.
iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove’s Nickelodeon/Columbia bow, Sparks Fly, should be between 30-35k.
Meanwhile, Mercury/IDJ’s Hole, the return of Courtney Love’s band without any original members except her, will see Nobody’s Daughter sell in the 20-25k range.
The market was up 2% vs. last week, down 10% vs. same week last year and still down 10% year to date. You may now return to monitoring the Tweets of Lindsay Lohan and her psychotic dad Michael.

I hope he scans more. For some reason, Billboard has Lady A and Bieber competing for #1. But this seems more realistic considering B.o.B has the #1 album on iTunes. Here's to hoping he scans 100k.

I wonder if B.o.B will be a steady seller. Okay sales.
I didn't expect Miranda Cosgrove to see that much. Not bad.. The lead single is going for adds in a few weeks, so maybe her album will begin to sell? This happened to Selena Gomez.

B.o.B is letting fans pre-order his album through his site. I remember last year when Prince released his LotusFlow3r album and did the same thing. Some say that the pre-orders from his site weren't included in sales until Soundscan reported the final results. Is this true?

Cool, on soundscan they said 60k. Now he's on 80-85k...maybe he ends up selling over 100k!

Re Melissa Etheridge- surprising in a good way, or no? She performed on Dancing with the Stars last night- wonder if that will impact at all.

I guess 20-25K is not that bad for Courtney, is it ?
Speaking about Hole former members, did Auf der Maur' last album chart ? it was supposed to be released in March

I was kinda hoping B.o.B. to cross 100k, considering Asher Roth debuted with 70k last year riding on I Love College alone, which wasn't half as big as Nothin' On You. Still, it's nice to see a rap artist's debut album chart that high.

Apparently lowest-selling #1 in a year.

Hopefully B.o.B trends up and can crack 100k. I don't want him to have the lowest #1 debut.

100k is out of the question. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

We'll see. Whatever he debuts with though, just hope he can maintain steady sales throughout the next few weeks and months.

Ah Better sales than what BB reported. Not as much as I wanted to see or hoped but a #1 debut would be nice! And with "Airplane" already gaining well it should have some legs :)

Prince was ahead of keith urban by about 40k in physical sales. and only narrowly lost in the final count it didnt count for one of 2 reasons; prince refused to release the numbers secondly the $77 cost included download and other services. apparently no service was ever provided and the service has since expired.

I think if Bobby pushed back the album a few more weeks to let Airplanes catch on at radio (and also some additional promo) he could have gotten 100K. I think they pushed it up way too early. He is on tour with Lupe Fiasco at the moment though, so he can't do much promo in between.

^ Nah, he has the #1 single in the country. At the time they moved it up, NOY was catching fire, there was no way to know "Airplanes" would've been as well-received as it was. They're releasing it at the right time. It doesn't really matter what you start with, it's where you end up. He's releasing it at a fine time.

Nice #'s for Miranda. The only promo for her album has been on Nick. Oh & she did a Toys' R Us signing if that counts too. I was expecting 25k.

One question, there is always a minor difference between Nielsen and HITS numbers. Is it because of Soundscan not factoring BMG music club sells?

HITS #'s are estimates based on calling/texting/sexting(anything for a scoop, reporters are whores) different stores in different parts of the country and extrapolating from that "representative sample" what everyone else sold.

Basically, if you asked two different people to go count the number of blades of grass in a field, you'd get different results. They're trying to estimate the same thing, but they have different methods for doing it (Soundscan appears to be much closer to the "real" number since most of their sales actually are hard-counted.0
I don't think either factors in music club sales (although those have trickled to close to nothing by now I imagine).

"I Love College" was garbage, and that's why Asher flopped.
