It would be completely unreasonable to call Kris' career a flop right now. The reason is because his career is not even close to over, whereas Mario's is. Right now, Kris Allen has released 1 single, and that single went Top 10 on Pop and Top (5? 3?) on HAC. The single has gone well over platinum on iTunes. He has an upcoming performance on AI. I'm not saying Kris Allen will definitely become this big star, but come on... at this point in time it makes no sense to call his career a flop. I don't think anyone is calling his future career anything, since it hasn't happened yet. I don't see how it's unfair to call his career thus far a flop though. At the very least it's been underwhelming. I wouldn't really call it underwhelming because there weren't high expectations for him anyway. If anything, he exceeded expectations by having a hit single and still being a recognizable name a year after his season of Idol. He isn't a booming success but he's doing alright. I wouldn't say "anyone can get a hit". Going top 10 on pop is NOT an easy feat especially for a HAC artist. Let's not downplay his achievements. And you can't compare his sales to Taylor's. 2006 was a very different market than 2010.

Also let's not forget that Taylor's season had the second most watched finale, after season 2. Overall, season 5 (even though I thought it was awful) was probably the most popular season. And Taylor did leave the show with a very devoted following, just like Clay and Adam. I don't think it's that embarrassing that Kris didn't come close to outselling him.

Exactly, Taylor had rabid fans, he solid his 700k in like 3 weeks. Kris had a totally different agenda coming off of Idol. Guys who play guitarand produce HAC leaning tracks never become huge stars IMO Ever heard of John Mayer? Jason Mraz? Please sit down.

Guys who play guitarand produce HAC leaning tracks never become huge stars IMO Because John Mayer isn't a huge star at all. All of his albums have sold very well, and he has a lot of critical acclaim. When Kesha sells three million copies, domestically, of Animal let me know. Jason Mraz isn't exactly a flop either. He may hit sporadically but he does quite well over on AAA and HAC.

I just saw an article on HDD that said something like 98,000 albums were released in 2009. Of those 98,000, only 2% sold more than 5000 copies. So Kris is doing WAY better than at least 98% of the people who put out albums last year...

right, but how many of those were released by a major record label and by someone who just emerged from the biggest platform for a new artist?
if 5000K albums sold is the minimum threshold, we wouldn't see acts being dropped from major labels and the record industry would be in a crisis.

Kris sounds nothing like John Mayer and his music is nothing like John Mayer, I don't know why people keep comparing. Maybe Rob Thomas, I could see that. But yeah, it's not easy for a male pop/rock guy to make it. No matter the type of pop/rock they make. His single did well and it really was a great catchy tune, but there's nothing else on his album that is that good imo. If he becomes an HAC artist, great for him. He'll just really need a more loyal audience, which is the one thing that he has been having problems building up. That's what ruined Jordin's second album.

Why do you guys bother to reply to aTunes? Just like in the 'LLWD' thread, he's been putting down Kris every chance he gets. I was only hating on LLWD at first. If you recall I confessed that LLWD grew on me big time, and went top 5 in my personal chart. As far as putting down Kris, I'm only pointing out what I said about him since day 1. Dude is not a star. At all. Which was one of the big reasons I didn't think he should've won last season.

Agreed. Anyone can get a hit, but a 2nd, 3rd, 4th is another thing. Heh... Nicole Scherzinger begs to differ. ;)

I can't wait to start tracking The Truth's performance on the Pop chart. Kris was doing hours of radio interviews today at Fox. There have been many positive mentions of kris by radio DJs and producers - let's see if they deliver by playing his song.

BWCU would've smashed all over the place, but I guess we'll never know.

I have a feeling he might not sell many albums but every single he releases will do very well. I had mixed feelings about the song being a single but when I heard it on radio, God :o his voice on the song. I don't know how to describe it but it's like you feel the voice and it gives some kind of meaning of the song. His voice is very radio friendly and radio seems to love him and maybe that's what Jive is trying to do with him. I personally will take having more hits so his name will be out there and moderate album sales any day. Good album sales are good but singles are what people identify an artist with.

Well. he's sold more albums so far than The Script and Train, so there's that. :)
I agree we have to wait and see where he ends up. Jive traditionally doesn't need huge sales to stay interested so he may be fine.

To save some of you time: "oh, the winner of AI should sell more albums because of the platform... i guess he's not a true star!!!" blah blah blah Let's all go in circles. In other news, the adds on HAC are good news. I hope pop follows suit. Even though I don't think this is the best single choice, I really hope it does well. It's a really amazing song.

I think the problem is the market is becoming pretty saturated with "guys who play the guitar". Cook, Kris, and now looks like Lee will win AI so yet another guy who plays the guitar.
I think both Cook and Kris will struggle when their second albums come out. Unless they can come up with a string of solid pop hits.

How much has this album sold to date ? I just checked the latest Top 200 and it doesn't appear to be there.

If Lee wins Idol that will be the thid year in a row for a "guitar guy" lol. Enough already!

I was genuinely wondering since we hadn't had Top 200 numbers for some time now and I haven't really followed his career that closely :). Not at all interested in Adam's sales. He is the most over hyped, most over rated AI contestant ever. "rock god" LOOOL.
