Lady Gaga reveals plans for Born This Way album Lady Gaga has told Newsbeat her new album, Born This Way, will be her "most innovative" work so far Speaking backstage on the final night of her UK Monster Ball tour, she confirmed an as-yet-untitled new single would be released in February 2011, with the album arriving "shortly after". She described the album as "a marriage of electronic music with major, epic, dare I even say, metal or rock 'n' roll, pop, anthemic style melodies with really sledge-hammering dance beats." "It's finished and all, it's just fine-tuning everything," the pop megastar added. 'More poetic' "It's kind of like the post-operative stage of the album. I've already done the full heart surgery. I'm just sewing myself back up again," she laughed. During the gig she showcased one new song set to appear on the album, You And I, a piano-led rock song featuring a Guns N' Roses-style guitar solo. "I think that lyrically this album is more poetic," she explained. "It's really written by the fans, they really wrote it for me because every night they're funnelling so much into me. 'Mother monster' "So I wrote it for them. Born This Way is all about my little monsters and me, mother monster," she continued. The London gig rounded off a very successful 2010 for the singer, which saw her winning three Brit awards, two Grammys and eight prizes at the MTV Video Music Awards. And with the Monster Ball tour due to resume in north America, Canada, and Mexico from February to May 2011, Gaga is not expected to tour with a new production in the UK again until 2012. "It's the last time I'm going to perform here until you guys hear Born This Way," she said before the gig. "It's very exciting," But the pop megastar revealed she will be in the UK "between February and March 2011" to debut her as-yet-untitled new single on TV. Source: www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/12038773

It better live up the hype or this could quickly become her My December. Highly unlikely. RedOne is on her side and the fans will buy it no matter what.

It is a possibility but considering GaGa and RedOne's track record it just doesn't seem like that is likely to happen.

I cannot see Lady Gaga releasing a first single that would be as un-radio friendly as Never Again nor do I see the other themes emerging that dampened the entire MD era (fighting with label, mouthing off about label, refusing to record songs the label approved of, etc). That being said, it is very possible that she will under-perform because, sadly, under-performing for Gaga would be "only" selling 1-2 million in America even if that is considered a massive, huge, smash, legendary sized album for other stars.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Selling 1-2 million for GaGa wouldn't be under-performing considering TFM hasn't reached 4 million yet WITH a re-release. If BTW can pull 1-2 million on its own then it hasn't under-performed IMO.

Well, you have to look at that 4 million number in light of other contexts-4 million at least doubles if not quadruples the average pop star sales today. When 1 million is considered a legendary smash hit album then what is 4 million? The 4 million number is also in context of also having an EP which also sold nearly 1.5 million by itself which also matches or beats average pop star album sales. By the end of the Fame's sales she will most likely have sold 5.5 million+ units in America with just an album and a re-release. Not many artists out there are even approaching that number even with two proper album releases. In other words, I can see why expectations are a bit higher for Lady Gaga than other people-her first album era and re-release pretty much blew most pop artists out of the water sales-wise. Believe me-if she barely hits the platinum mark there will be masses of people coming in here to shriek flop (which will be annoying). On the other hand, I hate when expectations do become too high. She won't match the Fame eras ever again and expecting it of her would be silly. I am hoping she can solidly sell 1.5 million and garner 3 top 10 hits with at least one major hit. I would be happy with that era. If she doesn't get any big hits or the album sells like, 800K-I will be concerned.

I agree but I don't think there will be much pressure for GaGa to sell a ton of albums. It seems to me like there wasn't much emphasis this era on how much the album sold, rather how many of the singles went to #1 and sold multi-million downloads. If the album goes platinum or 2x platinum with extremely high selling singles, it won't be considered a 'flop'. With that said, I think GaGa is going to have a hard time topping this era because it was a massive debut era and I doubt she will ever live up to the success this album has made.

Ah, I never said flop. Under-perform and flop to me are very different words-I realize some people probably use them interchangeably though. To me, there is a gray area though between OMG MASSIVE OMG HIT and Whoa embarrassing flop. You are correct that a bunch of massive hits would definitely make the era a hit though even if the album does just sell a million or something.

I know you didn't say 'flop' I was just using it in the words of what the critics would say. For instance, "My December" wasn't really that much of a disaster as the critics made it. The album did sell 1 million copies and spawned a Top 20 single, as well as a successful (smaller) tour.

Definitely true :( Also illustrates your points about singles-most people act like All I Ever Wanted was a much bigger hit than My December and perhaps they are correct, but the numbers for album sales really aren't that different. The only real difference is the singles where AIEW had a massive hit and two other hits while MD only had one minor hit. I hope Kelly kicks butt this era and charges past the platinum area though. However, I have probably drifted too far off-topic (apologies) Back to Gaga and how she is going to KILLLL this era

I can't wait to see everything RedOne, Fernando Garibay, Armani+Haus of GaGa, Laurie Ann Gibson, and GaGa have in store for us.
Apparently, everything is a step up from TFM. I expect to be impressed but I'll lower my expectations and play it safe. :]

I'm almost starting to feel like this era might outdo the last one. It feels more organized. Where The Fame was the learning era and Monster was the practicing one, this one is the fine-tuned era that will go smooth with singles and sales. Gaga definitely has the audience to buy her albums so sales isn't really an issue I don't think. The only concern I have really is how good the album actually is and how long until people are truly sick of her/how long the era will last.

Where The Fame was the learning era and Monster was the practicing one. I have to say I think it's absolutely incredible how GaGa/her label adjusted to her success promotion-wise. TF was around for a good few months before she really hit.
