Tool will sell a lot of records the first week whenever their next album debuts, but it will be nowhere near 500K. It will drop a bit. You gotta remember that was in 06 man. I say closer to 200K to 250K tops. That is still a formidable amount in this day. And similarly to A7X, it won't matter if the material is great to reach those numbers.

They will always sell. I would put a lot of money on it doing over 500K. People thought i was crazy when i said Recovery would sell about the same as Relapse first week. It ended up selling MORE than Relapse. 2001 the record industry was in a lot better shape then it was in 2006. 10,000 Days sold more in wk 1 (564,000 - 2006) then Lateralus wk 1 (550,000 - 2001). They will have a pretty big % drop, though, So to get back on topic a bit, i would be the last person to laugh at a high percentage drop. So that LOL didnt come from me.

The past doesn't necessarily predict the future, especially in this case. Tool higher than 500K the first week out the kast two times, however with a singles-driven marketplace, that wasn't quite as dominant 5 years ago as it is now. I would say "guarantee" is a strong word.

What does Tool have anything with Avenged Sevenfold? thehellion's whole point was that their numbers were impressive for a band of their genre nowadays. Tool doesn't have a current album out so it makes your point pretty much moot. 2006 was a much healthier music market and landscape.
Do you have anything on your iPod besides Eminem and Tool?

I'm surprised nobody's tried to use the, "Since Tool doesnt do digital, it's at even more of a disadvantage" excuse.
Also, I have over 8,500 songs on my ipod. A ton others that i don't have room for on my ipod. i love all genres of music. Tool and Eminem are my favorites though.
A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down, Disturbed, Rage Against The Machine. Pigmy Love Circus, D12, ASHES dIVIDE, Cold, Evans Blue (First two albums with KM), Parabelle, Evanescence, Kittie, Slipknot, his Orchestra, Stone Sour, Lamb Of God, Meshuggah, Rise Against, Deftones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Ben Folds, and etc. Chevelle, Smashing Pumpkins, Howie Day, Elton John, Isis, and etc.
I love adult contemporary music. I'm a sucker for Sappy love songs no matter who sings them. I loved Kanye Wests first two albums. I loved 50 Cent's fist two albums. Both have went way down hill since then. I loved Nellys first two albums. Downhill since then.
I liked Jay-Z, DMX, and Ludacris. Again, not so much the newer stuff. I guess to be fair i don't like much Rap at all anymore.

Special thumbs up for Meshuggah. There's a band more people should be into. I guess you got into through Tool after they took them out on tour one time or perhaps through the Deftones as they have been a noticeable influence on their most recent album and the band has frequently mentioned them in past interviews.

Yep. To be fair, maybe my taste for Rap has subsided a lot and thats why i may not like the later albums from Kanye or 50 but i really don't think thats the case. I just think Kanye and 50's last few albums have been crap. I love all music. You just don't hear me talking about sales really besides Eminem and Tool because, well, they are my favorites. lol. So when Em stops selling, I will stop posting about it. I didnt get into Tool till 2002. Just in time to see a show in October 2002. Meshuggah opened. So in a way Tool introduced me to a lot of bands just be they were the first non oldies band i loved. Through Tool i got into Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, and etc.. Basically in my life i went from... All oldies through 6 grade. Adult contemporary through 7th grade. Then i heard Forgot About Dre on the radio in the middle of 8th grade and got really into Rap. Then in 2002, in 10th grade, I got into Tool. Now i'm into everything. Ill give any genre a shot. I mean i really don't like country music but i love sappy love songs so i do like some Shinia Twain, Faith Hill, Taylor Swift, Lady A, and Jennette Mccurdy. But mainly the sappy love songs in the country genre.

They must be joking - I would have thought Usher to be Katy's biggest threat this week.

All it says is "could the album challenge"-I doubt it is actually challenging in any way. I think Katy will safely be #1.

What I'm sensing from this is sales for Katy in the sub 200K range. Probably 150K-ish with fantasia at 110-120K.

Maiden will have there highest debut ever. Good for them. At either #3 or #4. Yes, they certainly will. I wonder if Maiden will debut at No.1 in Canada? They've always been very popular over there. Their last album got to No.2 and went Gold so I think it's definitely possible that they have a big enough following in Canada to achieve it. Elsewhere in the world, their new album has debuted at No.1 in the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria and New Zealand so far and I'm sure there will be many other places in Europe where it has done the same.

It's good that sales picked up a good bit this week in the top 50.
We probably will have a 100k+ each top 3 next week. Assuming that Fantasia debuts strong and competitively like HDD suggests and Eminem hangs on for a tenth week above the 100k mark... which I think he will, even if it's just barely.

lolz
but seriously it will looks QUITE BAD if Katy debuts below Fantasia or Eminem or even if it comes close. Just about everyone seems to expect it will do AT LEAST 200k or about that. 300k shouldn't be that difficult though considering she already has two smash hits off this album on the charts and it's so competitively priced this week ($7.99 on Amazon, Best Buy and several other major outlets)

^Katy's digital sales will be much higher than Fantasia's, though. HDD was reporting only phyical retail stores sales, right?

Perry just doesn't have a seasoned fanbase yet. She's largely seen as a current flavor-of-the-year and her commercial performance will be almost entirely dependent on how well subsequent radio singles perform, much like her debut "One Of The Boys" was and how "The Fame", "Animal" and "The Dutchess", among countless other radio-ready offerings, have been. If she manages to maintain her high degree of exposure in the public sphere, particularly through radio play, her album will enjoy sustained consistent sales and eventually go platinum or double platinum. But she isn't seen as a serious artist in the minds of most listeners yet, and it is for that reason why many are not going to go out of their way initially to purchase "Teenage Dream" en masse, much like legions didn't go out of their way to purchase "One Of The Boys", or "Animal", or "The Dutchess" en masse. Katy still has 5 days to get her hands on some Tylenol and secure that #1 spot. It's absolutely disgusting that some people are suggesting that Fantasia attempted suicide as a publicity stunt. How can you even joke about such a thing? I'm not Fantasia's biggest fan or supporter, but that is just so wrong.

How can you even joke about such a thing? I'm not Fantasia's biggest fan or supporter, but that is just so wrong. She may have fallen out of popular music's top tier (let's be honest, she was never really in the top tier commercially to begin with) but she is still holding her own, considering her last album managed to go Gold despite only picking up a single hit restricted to Urban radio. The suicide rumor is tasteless indeed. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus
