I'm surprised this was chosen as the first single. It was fun to listen to in concert, but it doesn't sound like a radio single to me. It also feels more like a Phil Vassar song than a Tim McGraw song. I can this peaking outside the top 10, just like "It's A Business Doing Pleasure With You."

i like it, the beat gets kind of out of control and overproduced at times, but i like what i heard, i have to hear the full song to judge it, and i think its for his upcoming album, he said he was recording for a new album,
So do you guys think the song will be able to handle and beat the competition on the charts right now, and with carrie and keith climbing, im not sure how it will perform, hopefully its a hit becuz "still"(which i thought was awful and bland), failed peaking at 18 so hopefully its a top 10

I think that this has a very strong chance of debuting in the Top 40 on the 10/9 chart since it's going to radio on Monday and it will have 7 days to grow.
The song is a whole lot better than "Still" and "It's A Business". Different sound from Tim all together. I like it.

Heard him do this in concert back in June. Was hoping that Curb would smarten up and ship it as a single. Good call.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's not on both the Country Strong soundtrack and Tim's new release ('ditto the end credits duet with Gwyneth Paltrow). It makes a lot of marketing sense ("Southern Voice" was the end-credit song for "The Blind Side").

I know he has mentioned in interviews that his new album was basically all set. Right around the time Southern Voice was released he went right back in the studio because he didn't want it to be a long time before he had new music out. He has butted heads with Curb, I think he is trying to finish up the contract he has with them. Then I think he is leaving.

Keith Urban after two days of airplay had enough audience to make the top 40. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't think it's much of an achievement to debut in the top 40. It would be newsworthy if he didn't make the top 40.

I wonder how much effort Tim will even give to promoting the new album. I imagine that, mentally, he is already moving on to other projects. Based on the clip, I like what I heard of the song. It sounds like a radio hit to me (though I realize that short clips can be deceiving).

What I'm wondering still if this is going to be on the Country Strong soundtrack. I'm guessing that it is but we don't know for sure yet whether it's going to be on there, his new album or both.
If it does happen that it's on the Country Strong soundtrack, it'll be the first time that two or more songs on a soundtrack have charted at the same time since Urban Cowboy did so in 1980 ("Stand By Me" by Mickey Gilley and "Lookin' For Love" by Johnny Lee).

Given that it's a 'curb' promotion, it's gonna be on the new album. It doesn't preclude it from being on the "Country Strong" record, it just means that it's not being promoted by them as a single like the Gwyneth Paltrow title cut.

I dislike the robotic sound to Tim's voice, which makes it sound like a pop song, instead of a country one. It doesn't sound much like him at all.

YAYYYY NEW TIM! I'm not loving this from the clip, but I'm really excited for a new album.
I'm still sad the Southern Voice era seriously only lasted a few months, I still think that album is miles ahead of Let It Go, the era that wouldn't die.

Heard this in concert and thought it sounded like another great Tim song. Glad it is being sent out as a single. Can't wait for the full version.

The same year of the Urban Cowboy soundtrack (1980) saw the Bronco Billy soundtrack produce two #1s within weeks of each other: Bar Room Buddies by Merle Haggard and Clint Eastwood and Cowboys And Clowns by Ronnie Milsap.

This is what I found, works for me: kmle108.radio.com/2010/09/20/new-tim-mcgraw-song-felt-good-on-my-lips/I love it. It has huge potential, in my opinion. He is at his best in moments like this, atleast for me. You can tell he is having fun with this song and that he loves it. He isn't the best vocalist in Nashville, be he has an uncanny way of putting emotion into his vocal efforts, and this song I think realy conveys that. It sounds like he is really loving the song, the beat, and is singing from an early honeymoon stage.

Apparently this will be on yet another greatest hits album (his fourth), called #1 Hits, which will come out on November 30th. I didn't see that coming, but then I guess it had been a whole two years since his last one.
As for the song itself, I quite like it. I agree that Tim isn't Nashville's best singer, but when he connects with a song, he really delivers. IMO, this is one of those times - the song is fresh and original sounding. I can see it being a big hit.

This song is very catchy..could get old quick but still a cool tune! A little different vibe from McGraw which is good change..keeps things fresh. BUT I really think they should've released "You Had To Be There" from Souther Voice! That song would've been BIG. Yes it is quite a dark topic but it's just one of those country songs that we haven't been hearing on radio in quite some time and maybe would've stirred things up a bit. Well, looks like they're going in new directions.

I would definitely add it to the large list of 'should've been singles' from Tim.

That would be a heck of a list....
You Had To Be There Train #10 Whiskey And You Blank Sheet Of Paper Telluride I've Got Friends That Do
Somebody at his label is a major-league blockhead for choosing several of his singles over the past six years.
I really like this new single, and I certainly hope it goes to #1.

I believe this #1s album is the last album on his contract. After the release of Southern Voice I had read somewhere that it was mentioned he only had 1 more album to fulfill for his contract with Curb.

That's correct, but I guess that given the decade-plus long era of acrimony between Tim & his label, I guess that they really can't wait to be done with each other.
Consequently, if dumping another GH CD on the market is what it takes to close this chapter of his relationship with Curb Records, then so be it.
There's really no reason why he can't return to being the mega-coolossal chart hog that he was between 1994 & 2006, when all but one of his singles reached the top ten, and all except one of those top ten singles reached the top five @ R&R.
Those two singles respectively, were 'Drugs Or Jesus' and, 'Some Things Never Change'.
This goes for adds a week from today on Sept. 27th, according to Country Aircheck.

Actually I think the contract states that he has one more studio album left at Curb...this was being discussed over on the upcoming albums thread. Curb is really not making a smart business decision, and the fact that they aren't gracefully letting McGraw go is just plain stupid. An artist as well-respected and established as McGraw should be able to finish his contract with no conflict and then do as he pleases.
According to today's BCU, "Felt Good On My Lips" is one of only 2 new songs on the "#1 Hits" album. Then I think Tim has to give Curb a studio album yet before he is done and can join a new label or make his own.
All that negativeness aside, I think "Felt Good On My Lips" is a decent song--somewhat of what I'd call "radio-fluff", but also very catchy and executed well. I think it can go to #1 as long as Tim's lack of momentum doesn't hurt him...

Then I think Tim has to give Curb a studio album yet before he is done and can join a new label or make his own. It's possible they negotiated that option much like others have done recently. Given his feelings with the label over the years, I don't think he'd enjoy it much if they 'cut up' his last album he completed for them so that the label could delay his inevitable move any further. I honestly expect the "#1 Hits" album to be his final release as an active Curb Records artist (they'll package a GH4 and perhaps a Box set down the line, I'm sure of that).

I don't know... "hits" and "best of" compilations almost never count towards an LP requirement on an album contract. I would be surprised if that were the case with Tim and Curb.

This song sounds weird. I prefer Tim's natural voice, something just sounds wrong with this.

Yes, that's true but given Tim's financial status, I think he's in a different situation. Toby Keith's Greatest Hits album did count towards such contracts, even though he was gone from UMG Nashville for like 3-4 years (as Show Dog). So it can be done.
