Possibly the most improbable chart record that anyone has achieved is the Beatles having all 5 songs in the top 5 of the Hot 100 for one week back in 1964. Odds are, nobody will ever top that.
But I was wondering, does anybody think that there could one day be a time when somebody occupies half of the top 10? There'd have to be a perfect storm of things to happen:
1) It'd have to come from a very well-established artist who's a great digital seller (Like a Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, etc) who's also a great album seller, and a few other things might have to happen.
2) The singer would already need 2 songs from the album released to radio before the album drops and have both simultaneously occupy the top 10 (something that's very possible, we see that all the time).
Then there would have to be three other tracks on the album that would just catch fire the week of the album's release and sell truckloads of copies the first week to all break the top 10.
It also might help if this artist was maybe featured on another hot jam at the time. Now, I know how it usually goes. Typically, there's only one album track or so that might sell enough in the first week to crack the top 10, everything else populates the lower half. Am I crazy to think something like this could happen?

The chances of this happening again, as small as they might be, are more possible than ever now because of digital sales.

Taylor Swift:
Send 1 single to pop, 1 to country.
Release those 2 new songs at once, along with 3 others. Sell the 5 songs together for $4 on iTunes

There was a very special set of circumstances that allowed it to happen for the Beatles in 1964. Basically, Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager, went to Capitol records (the label that the Beatles British label Parlaphone, released things under in the USA) in 1963 and tried to interest them in releasing the Beatles' music in the US. Capitol records quite bluntly told him that they didn't think the Beatles would do anything in the American market and dismissed him. Undeterred, Brian kept searching around until he find some smaller labels willing to release the Beatles' singles. As a result, long defunct small record labels like Swan, Tollie and Veejay became the first labels to release Beatle product in the US.
Capitol records were right about one thing at least, in 1963 the Beatles' British hits "Please, Please Me," "From Me To You," and even "She Loves You" when it was first released, did nothing on the American charts. 1963 was not to be the year of the Beatles in America. Then a few things happened at once, Capitol records, which had rejected the earlier Beatles' singles, showed an interest in releasing their latest one, "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and at the same time, an imported copy of that same British hit single started to get played on radio and this song by this unknown British group with the funny name quickly spread like wildfire across the US . Capitol, realizing that this latest single had a buzz that the earier ones didn't, upped the amount of copies for "I Want To Hold Your Hand" that they were going to produce to one million, and with that, along with some well placed appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show, and a huge publicity campaign, 1964 became the year of the Beatles.
For the next few months, the Beatles became a national obsession in America, and their fans couldn't get enough of their songs or albums. Suddenly, the earlier singles that had failed only a year before, were in high demand and after IWTHYH's success, they too finally entered the US charts. The marketplace was literally glutted with Beatle product; Beatles' songs were being played all over the radio; so it was only a matter of time and perfectly logical that the Beatles would eventally come to dominate the US charts.
And that's how it came to be that on the Billboard chart week ending April 4th, 1964 that the Beatles ended up taking over the top half of the top 10. No other artist before or since has ever came anywhere close to that kind of top 10 dominance. It seems highly unlikely that the circumstances will ever exist for it to happen again.
Billboard Hot 100 Top 5 for April 4th, 1964:
1. Can't Buy Me Love - The Beatles 2. Twist And Shout - The Beatles 3. She Loves You - The Beatles 4. I Want To Hold Your Hand - The Beatles 5. Please Please Me - The Beatles

5 in the top 5 of course can't be topped (6 in the top 5?) 4 in the top 10 happened as recently as a few years ago Haha, I see my mistake now. I should've said "No one will ever match that." Who had the four a few years ago? And how many of those had that artist as a "featured" performer?

BEP would've had their chance this era but I don't see them ever doing it. Taylor Swift may, but I don't think all of it would be in the upper half of the top 10. GaGa may also, and so would Britney but to a lesser extent than say Taylor. I wouldn't hold my breathe.

This would actually be pretty difficult. The digital age does make it a little easier, but I don't think any artist is hyped that much that they would hold the top five spots on the Hot 100. The reason? Well, the Hot 100 also has airplay. Chances are 4-3 of those songs wouldn't have very good airplay at all. The songs below them digitally would be able to surpass them with their airplay. Unless these said five songs were to outsell all other songs by nearly 100k.
If anyone were to do this, it would most likely be Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa, The Black Eyed Peas, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, or Beyonce. They are the digital royalty at the moment. Maybe Gwen/No Doubt and Fergie, too, if they were to release material again. (As their other material was released before or right at the time of the big digital blow up in 2007.) I mean, Gwen was the first artist to get a song to surpass 1,000,000 copies.

Should something like Glee ever begin to get radio airplay, that might result in a situation like this.

I think it could happen again- it's not impossible and we've seen several with 2 in the TOP 5.

Lack of airplay would hurt Eminem's chances.

Sell the 5 songs together for $4 on iTunes If this does ever happen again, that will probably be how it happens. Glee is possible but again, lack of airplay and if any Glee song does ever get significant airplay, it won't be more than one. Eminem or Beyonce might be able to do it too. Artists like GaGa and Britney will most likely not be able to achieve this as they don't have the advantage of huge airplay from two major formats like Taylor does.

If anyone could do it in this era of digital sales, it would be Flo Rida. He broke the digital record twice before and currently holds the record, plus his monster hits get major airplay from multiple formats. The only other two who even have a chance of breaking the record are Glee and (sadly) Lady Gaga.

Is it Backwards Day here at Pulse again? (Oh, and LOLZ.)

Flo Rida manages to get one huge hit per album, and then he slowly fades away until the next one. He won't ever have 3 songs at the top 40 at the same time, let alone 5 in the top 10. Glee won't do it, since the popularity of the show will decrease someday, and I don't see them going for radio airplay soon. GaGa has a good digital fanbase, but then again, has she managed to get a good first week? Bad Romance dissapointed in it's first week. It became huge after that, but I don't think she could make it.
