I thought "How Far We Come" was easily rockier and darker overall than say, Rob Thomas' solo work. Well, yeah, but it doesn't take much to be rockier than Thomas's solo work. His solo stuff is really poppy. Eh. Well yes, it's all poppy. But it's less poppy than say, OneRepublic or The Script.

We should make a chart of poppiness for bands on a scale of Mudvayne to Bieber.

But then bands like Cannibal Corpse and Meshuggah and various jazz-fusion and contemporary classical composers won't be able to be measured. :(

Something about this seems really off to me - it's got a lot of promo/hype behind it, not sure how well it'll ultimately do an Alt. though

What seems off to you about it? It premiered on my local rock station today, and people LOVED it.

While I don't exactly condone the Fighters for being the anti-Radiohead by whoring themselves out to the media to promote this, but at least to me, they backed it up by releasing a raw, rocking single.

Really good song. Not as good as "The Pretender" IMO, but still solid.
I can see this doing at least 10 weeks at #1 on Alternative.

I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about music. Dude, you don't like "I Cum Blood"? That song's my jam! *shifty eyes*

What seems off to you about it? The whole "gimme some rope...I'm holding on to you" line (to me, it just seems like a weird thing to say in a song) - it was only a first impression though

This is gonna take a few spins to grow on to me, but it's pretty solid. Sounds kinda vintage, too.

I'm sick of the song already. Not because it's bad or anything, but because I've already heard it over 5 times this afternoon while streaming online.

Yeah, expect this to be killed. This isn't really clicking with me, either. "Wheels" had far more of an edge, this sounds poppy.
#1 on Alt? Yes, but mainly due to name power.
Oh... and I actually prefer Six Feet Under to Cannibal Corpse. ;)

This song got nearly 300 plays in its first day on alternative, and it didn't even have the overnight to pick up all the new music plays. This could debut top 5 even with half a week's spins, and I think it'll be the next #1.

SEE-EE-EE-EED. O-O-O-OF. FI-I-I-I-ILTH. "The Day the Dead Walked" is the first I heard of them, so I'll call that my fav. As for Foo Fighters, I think they're getting that much airplay out of the gate, based on their name, rather than the quality of the single. They're coming off a huge era, where all three singles hit #1 on Alt, so this was never exactly gonna flop.

Yeah, I agree with Artie a bit here. Another song like "Wheels" would have been successful, and probably go top 5 like "Wheels" did (maybe even sneak a week in at #1 by virtue of being a Foo Fighters lead single), but it wouldn't fly up the chart like this is.

Yeah, but there have been cases of burnout where an artist's song gets added on name recognition alone and dropped because of poor response. Not saying this is the case here, but just noting that it can happen.

I really don't get the people who think "Rope" is poppier than "Wheels." "Wheels" sounded like a Tom Petty track. "Rope" has a much harder edge to it. I can see the Rush comparison. I also don't think something "hard" has to be devoid of a catchy melody. Personally, I really like it.
And if you're into nostalgia, the intro is very "Detachable Penis."

I don't think it's poppier than "Wheels," but I was listening to "The Colour & The Shape" yesterday and I'd say it definitely is more then "Monkey Wrench" and "My Poor Brain."

I would say that "Monkey Wrench" is poppier than this. That one has more melody, and about the same level of heaviness. And "Wheels" is poppier without question.
I'm not sure how much I like this, or "White Limo" for that matter. But at least they're a break from the last two albums' samey singles, and have some of the raw energy that they've been missing.
