The hype might be a problem for her, if only because it's already built up to be this fantastic project the likes of which the world has never heard before. That's not something easily delivered.

I disagree. Her ballads > LIFE. I'd take them any day over all that electro-pop i$h that gets annoying after not too many spins. All her songs sound better when she transforms them into ballads live imo. It really depends. Live, her ballads sound fantastic because I can really feel the energy, but she never translates them well on-record (Disregarding Speechless, which was terrible live too.) In contrast, her pop records have far more flare and pizazz as we'd expect from Gaga. P.S. Plz keep the Ke$ha shade to a minimum, ty. G0rl bye, "Speechless" was epic on-record and live. That and "Honest Eyes" gives me everything. :'( And I'm not a Gaga stan either. Her electropop stuff just doesn't cut it for me generally, idk.

"THE SONG" ≠ "BORN THIS WAY"
[/making it visible] Where has she actually said that the song premiering on 2/13 is the song called "Born this Way"? I expect it to be "Born this Way" mashed up with another 1 or 2 new songs, but I can not see any proof.

it doesn't mean it's ballad. She also sang Poker Face on piano and it sounded like a ballad. I doubt this is a ballad.

The lyrics to "Born This Way" seem as though the song could be some sort of power ballad. It might start of slow-ish, then build up to a massive chorus.

IF the first single is BTW and is slower ballad, i would imagine a dance song will be released between March-April....
My only thought with this era, is it could be a test to see how the rest of her career (as GAGA) is planned out. Will it be dance material 24/7? or will general fans accept old-Stefani within the GaGa image? CAN GaGa last longer than a few years, or will Stefani be back to Stefani very soon?
Regardless of what happens, im curious and excited to see what this album is like!

Glad we got some official news today.
I'm honestly excited to hear whatever direction she decides to go.

I'm not worried about her working with RedOne again -- look what they did with BR, they took her sound/everything to the next level. They seem pretty set on outdoing BR, too. So I know we're going to get something 'new' and unexpected.

I'm not worried about her working with RedOne again -- I'm not either. I love the work he did with Mika as well (see "Kick Ass"). Gaga knows what sounds good. She isn't a product. She will make sure her producers enhance her sound, they won't create it.

I have a gut feeling that this lead single is going to be totally different from what we are so familiar with from her. She will diffinately surprise us with a sound like no other. The mystery of not knowing is why this is so exciting. One thing - it will be gigantic.

I'm not saying she can't work with RedOne, but if this song is Poker Face/Bad Romance Pt. II, people might be disappointed, especially since she's been painting this era as ~something amazing~ for like a year now. I think that people would love an updated Poker Face and Bad Romance Part 2!! I hope it continues with the hard pop/dance sound for the lead single (whether it be called Born This Way or not) and does not stray too far left field for the first single. She can switch it up for later singles. Also, just because Gaga sang the song acapella at the VMA's does not mean the song will be a ballad, in fact, I'd bet money it's an uptempo.

i think it's gonna be a downtempo, with an ambient beat and a slow progression to an exploding finale. I can almost hear it.

I heard a version on YouTube that's uptempo. It needs to grow on me though.

Do you think when she performs it at the grammy's she'll do it ballad style.. ? Or pull a Gaga and bust out the electro-pop sounds :) ?

Agreed. Gaga should manage expectations by being forth coming with information about the record in a timely fashion.

It will probably be like Speechless and then something like Bad Romance in April like people are predicting. It's a safe way to do it and its smart. There's no such thing as underperforming because whether its THE lead single is unknown and easily downplayed.

May as well just release the hit as the lead single.

Your assuming it's a full blown ballad. It's possibly mid-tempo. Your also assuming it's the first single.
edit:
For all we know 'Hello Hello' could be the "first single" even though it's for Gnomeo and Juliet.

Lmao. If she releases some soppy ballad as the lead single (and i REALLY don't see it happening), i'm gonna laugh at her management, label and hers stupidity for the rest of the year. Also i'll probably call her pretentious beyotch in every post. (actually i'm very tempted to do it anyway after the complete non-event with the twitter announcement last night) 'Speechless' is a terrible dud, even GaGa couldn't make it work. I'm not sure she's been in the right head space to make another great mainstream pop album, now i have to wait till end of may to find out. I hope we don't have another case of severe self-indulgence on our hands alá KoL. I couldn't even get through the 2 singles on the KoL album.

Agree. I'm starting to get worried now, especially after seeing that today big announcement was just 2 release dates -a bit of a bummer. Hope she really has something extra-ordinary as she is selling it. I'm sure she is capable, but sometimes ego can play tricks... Interesting comparison. I'm intriguied, if you think Gaga could be Cyndi, who do you think could be Madonna in that analogy. Is it Katy? Ke$ha? Kelly? I was thinking about that the other day and wondering if for example Katy can take that throne. She has been a bit of an underdog after her so-so first album. Now her second album has been nominated to AOTY (which reflects critical acclaim in a way), and she has had 3 #1s already from TD. Her performances are getting better each time, and she is improving in the video arena. She has evolved significantly from OOTB to TD... I don't think Madonna was praised for being a good singer up until Crazy For You and later Live To Tell. And still she was never the WOW vocalist, but more the entertainer. So I see some parallels between Madge and Katy. But it's still early in the game. I'm looking forward to next Gaga's era....

Gaga and her management not managing expectations could kill her. I think they should leak the track early honestly to get a feel from the general public....They can always release two or three singles before the album is out...hell maybe even 4 singles before the album is out. Time is on their side now....but they better watch it.
Gaga and fans believe their own hype so its best to be careful....it can backfire and has.

The general public don't know anything about this. When i told my friends about her new album, they were like " wow she hasn't released anything recently". maybe it's just my friends but i don't think the hype is anything to worry about tbh
