Gaga and her management not managing expectations could kill her. I think they should leak the track early honestly to get a feel from the general public..... I think that's the worst idea. Picking a single and then changing it because the public "doesn't like it" is a really bad look for her and the label. Let's face it guys, I highly doubt the label, with her success and the anticipation of this album, will let the lead single be anything less than a chart topper.

With that being said... I hope it is a chart topper because I like Gaga.

From what I can tell, it seems she plans to release the title track in feb (the day before valentines day :), her gift to everyone), but she never said it was the single. I don't see where people even got that idea from. "Title track" and "single" are two very different things.

??? Very valid point. She never says anywhere that its going to be the lead single. It just says 'the song'. twitpic.com/3lvuh8

The first single is definitely "Born This Way". Goes to iTunes and radio February 13.

If the album is coming in May, it's only appropriate that the single will be released 3 months before (in February) whether it's Born This Way or another song.

That's not a reliable source at all. No other sources have confirmed that the title will be released both to iTunes and radio on Feb. 13. Wait for a confirmation from AllAccess or FMBQ

I suspect a premiere in a mashup on Grammy night. Then the next day she'll probably premiere the official studio version, and maybe add it to iTunes the day after. Official radio adds date around the 22nd.

Being released on a Tuesday is standard but isn't a rule. There have been and are occasionally exceptions of songs released on other days just like the exception of albums coming out on a Friday, or a Monday.

There is obviously a strong message coming from this album so it only makes sense to setup the era with the lead track. Now whether or not it is a 'hit' is yet to be determined but with her current momentum, she may not have to release an 'obvious hit' to get one. Expectations and hype are high, though, so hopefully she delivers something special. This will be a defining moment in her career; amazing, bad, or anything in between.

I really hope that "Born This Way" is even more epic (the song AND the video) than "Bad Romance". Subsequent singles after "BR" like "Telephone" and "Alejandro" (both songs/videos) were not as good and epic like "BR". I can picture her premiering this at The Grammy's 2011 in traditional Gaga style. Piano driven ballad for the first few verses/chorus of the song, then full-out Gaga dancing and the original album version (hard dance/pop style) takes over and we are all introduced to "BTW".

^Why? Are you afraid Gagay will flop? I'm just worried because Elton John said it was like a modern, gay version of "I Will Survive". I don't know what that means...and I don't like IWS very much. So the uncertainty of it scares me haha.

I'm sure he meant in terms of it's status as a gay anthem. It doesn't sound like it will have the same theme, genre, instrumentation, or anything really.

And I can't imagine a scenario in which Gaga releases a song that becomes as legendary as IWS and fans won't be doing back flips with glee.

Received word from a supposed "insider" that the Gaga got her label to move the release date back to March. Apparently Gaga said she was down for the Brit-Gaga battle. GOD I love her.

GOD I love her. it would help them both..... but I doubt it... Brit's will come out in March and Gaga's in May. They will both do well and I can't wait to hear them!

I think it's perfectly normal for people to be worried or uncertain about something that has had very little information out on it yet. Nowhere did I say that I think it will flop, I said "the uncertainty of it scares me". And by uncertainty, I mean it's not a generic first single produced by a very well known producer for making Pop hits. This is really only GaGa's second album so I don't want to see her being a "one album wonder". I think it's OK to be worried because she hasn't released multiple albums with an emphasis on creating chart toppers...we don't really know what it's like to hear "new music" from her. I don't think it will happen but I just want her to do really well because I genuinely like her.

I don't believe FMQB. I'll wait for Gaga confirmation.
If "Born this Way" (song) is a more ballad take with deep lyrics and not much of a dance beat, while it will most likely be amazing, it probably would flop (i.e. #3 or something). Unfortunately, the public just doesn't like downbeat meaningful songs as much as upbeat club/filth/slut/etc.
