For the purpose of this poll, "retire" means a formal hiatus from music for at least ten years of their own free will (i.e. not because they were dropped from a label, or had to go to rehab, or whatever).

Yeah, I'm not sure about Justin...it's been a while but he'll probably pop up on some more random tracks...or he's just holding out for a big comeback.
I voted for Britney, but thought about Alicia, too. I know Kelly doesn't want to do music forever, but she has one more album with RCA after this upcoming one and then I'm sure she'd like to do at least an album or two on her own, so I'd say she'll be around in some capacity for a while.

Probably Kelly, her material hasn't been the pop perfection it was during Breakaway. So I don't see her coming back, thus retiring. Alicia if she wants to go in mom mode. I expect GaGa to become a pop-character for as long as she lives ala Cher. Beyonce will die with a Mic in her hand. Carrie I'm sure will retire when she's old.

Honestly think Carrie. I'd imagine her wanting to start a family in a couple of years with her new husband. But then again... she can always come back. I know Kelly doesn't want to do music forever I kinda disagree. We know she loves touring and performing... after leaving RCA there may be long gaps that she doesn't release anything but I still think she'll be making some genre of music.

Beyonce will die with a Mic in her hand. OMG ! I say Kelly Clarkson will be the first to throw in the towel. I don't see Britney making music anymore once she hits 40. Someone like Alicia I could see churning out hits well past her prime a la Mary J Blige.

We know she loves touring and performing... after leaving RCA there may be long gaps that she doesn't release anything but I still think she'll be making some genre of music. I'd hope so, but I remember an interview within the last few years where someone asked if she'd be doing this forever and she said something to the effect of "I hope not! I want a family, etc." So, who knows. But that was a few years ago so who knows, I could see her coming out with EPs of various genres so she can do everything she's wanted to do these last few years on her own.

Someone like Alicia I could see churning out hits well past her prime a la Mary J Blige. Past her prime? Mary will ALWAYS be in her prime dummy. She's still the queen of R&B and offkeys will never touch her multiple number ones, album sales, or voice for that matter. I remember an interview within the last few years where someone asked if she'd be doing this forever and she said something to the effect of "I hope not! I want a family, etc." Yes I remember. Just in denial, is all :'(

Alicia ALWAYSONKeys seems to have a lot going on with Keep A Child Alive, motherhood, etc. So I could definitely see her taking an extended break/retirement soon. Hope not though.

Dance-pop singers tend to be the ones to "retire" not real musicians like Alicia and John Mayer

Beyonce has always said she wants to be retired by the time she is 30. Before IASF her cousin told the press Beyonce intended it to be her last album.
I suspect, however, that Beyonce will continue putting out music forever.

I can only hope some of these retire sooner rather than later, but then fear strikes me that someone worse may emerge. Last year alone made appreciate some of them even more.

Ever since Rihanna started making music, Bey hasn't been getting any sleep. When RiRi retires, Bey retires But in all honesty, I think Keys, Britney, Pink and Kelly are the type to retire soon

I went with Beyonce. She seems to me like someone who is pretty content with not putting music out. Like I could see her going on a hiatus for awhile.
The rest, not so much.

I could see Bey retiring just so she could make a big deal out of it, release hundreds of deluxe greatest hits with bonus tracks out of her ears and put on a final concert with lots of fake crying.

And then six months later embark on her WW comeback tour with Destiny's Child. :kii: She'd find a loophole to stay relevant and making money.

How many superstars really go into actual retirement? I think its more common that they hit 50+ and are only releasing once or twice a decade but most huge stars dont seem to actually retire in the sense that they really hang it up and say they are never putting out music again.

Well, I see Kelly leaving the mainstream music industry and going on a more indie route, so not 'retiring', but she could be the first to exit the mainstream scene. She'll still have a big following though.
Other than that it's kinda anyone's call I guess. I guess maybe Britney. Her, Beyonce and Justin have been in it considerably longer than the majority of this list...Beyonce will probably be one of those artists who will be like 70 and still performing lol. And Justin, IDK, I think he still has a lot more to do since he's only had 2 solo albums. So that leaves Britney.

Actually, now that I think about it, I see P!nk actually retiring. I dunno why, but I don't see her having the rock life forever.
As for Kelly, I can see her retiring when she comes out on People magazine, on the cove, her and her partner, announcing they are going to adopt soon. Yup, that's how it'll happen.

Probably P!nk since she has a baby and all.
I don't know about Kelly retiring anytime soon. Maybe eventually she'll wanna have a family, but that may take awhile. Who knows, though.

I'm actually going to say Gaga, because I think she'll get really tired of her persona after five more years or so.

Don't get why so many people are leaning towards Britney with this one. She's said it time and time again that she loves making music and all that jazz. I doubt she'll ever stop releasing material in some form or fashion, in the same vein as Madonna. But then, what artist doesn't say music is their life? My thoughts are Rihanna, John Mayer, and Alicia Keys. Maybe P!nk.

Honestly, I can see P!nk retiring in about five or six years. I don't know why, it just seems to fit.
