I mostly dislike him cause he's male and because his music doesn't appeal to me whatsoever/is poorly written.

Because he's actually really talented. DUH!
Bieber started as a joke (just like JoBro's), but he's proven since then he has at least SOME kind of longetivity, so all the 'hahah lmao lolol' turned into 'raaaaaaaage'. Same thing happened to Miley btw. Laughing at him is not effective anymore and it makes people look rather stupid at this point, so hate is all that's left really.

I think he's moderately talented, but I don't think his talent exceeds your average somewhat musically inclined 17 year old guy. He just got lucky because the right people happened to stumble across his YouTube videos. All of this is interesting and all but it still doesn't answer the question as to why people feel so threatened by him that they need to be so outspoken about why they hate him so much. If I were to mention Arcade Fire in my facebook status update, for example, I'd probably get very little in the way of replies or at the very least get a few *likes* whereas if I were to say the same thing regarding Bieber, I'd likely get an overwhelming number of responses telling me how much he sucks. I just can't quite ponder why that is. I don't think it's a new thing, really. The same thing would've happened if you put The Jonas Brothers in your status 3 years ago, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana in your status 5 years ago, Hilary Duff 7 years ago, ect. Bubblegum pop artists, especially ones that are aimed at people under the age of 14, have always been easy targets.

I just can't quite ponder why that is. Well, despite the fact that Arcade Fire is a terrific band, not many people know who they are whereas Bieber receives a lot more exposure. I also think threatened is the wrong word to use when discussing Bieber. I don't see how anyone is "threatened" by him. I just think a lot of people dislike him because he isn't very talented, has some annoying songs, and some of his opinions aren't very popular. He also comes across as a typical teenage brat.

I just used Justin Bieber as an example but it could apply to anyone really. Replace the original question with whoever you want and then come back and answer the question.

Well in this case, I think people talk bad about them so much is because they're aimed at a very young age group and really don't appeal to most people over the age of 15, and yet they're still all over the places, in our faces all the time even though their music is really only enjoyable for tween girls. It's just the price of overexposure, and in the cases of these bubblegum tween stars, it's worse because we all have to see them all of the time and yet most of us really couldn't care less about their music because it's aimed at a very narrow audience. At least with other huge artists like Lady GaGa and Taylor Swift their music can be enjoyed by a fairly large audience.

This is not unique to Justin Beiber. Every overexposed teen star with music that most people who've graduated middle cant' stomach, questionable talent, an annoying personality, and an even more annoying fanbase full of tweens pretty soon faces a heavy backlash thanks to...well, all of the above. Just look at Miley Cyrus, JoBros, etc. etc.

I guess the main question is, then, why do people feel the need to focus so much on spending so much time talking about how much he sucks? Or trying to bring him (not him personally, but just in general, his music and celebrity) down? I just don't get why people put so much effort into tearing a singer they don't like down, whether it's Justin Bieber, Jonas Brother, Britney, GaGa, etc. I guess I just perceive it as them being threatening in some way so people have to justify why they "suck" in order to make their own taste in music seem more legitimate?

I think for most people just mention it as part of a discussion because they are targets they are the "kings/queens of the hill". I don't like people who purposefully try to tear down an artist but I think it's a little therapuetic for them and a way to blow off some steam.
When you think about it Justin and compancy invade our lives, some of it is jealousy but some of it is frustration when there are so many talented artists who don't get the time of day but marginally talented one's do.

The thing is, with my experience, the people who hate him are the ones to bring him up and start the conversation. Same thing with GaGa. I know someone specifically who often brings up GaGa and what she's done lately and how she's a "fraud" and completely fake and manufactured. I purposely don't bring her up in conversation because, really, what would the point be? Other than saying "what basis do you have that I don't?"

While I think most people fit that description, how do you explain people trending RIP Beiber or going to a video of an artist you don't like and posting inflammatory negative comments. It's somewhat rampant.

It's somewhat rampant. There's of course a vocal minority that has an unhealthy obsession with him, on both the positive and negative ends of the spectrum. I don't think this just applies to him (or Gaga, vis-a-vis Max's post) and I don't think this is new at all in the world of pop stars & the internet.

I think it's hard to "hate" someone you're not constantly being exposed to I really don't like Avenged Sevenfold, but I don't think I'd ever say I "hate" them, cause they're not constantly being shoved down my throat

I think its weird that in every youtube music video comments regardless of what genre or what artist it is, I always see some Justin Bieber bashing comments.
For example if a music video gets 12,340 likes and 32 dislikes, I see some comment like 32 people must be Bieber fans or something like that. There has been worst offensive comments.

Yeah, one time I had to look up a few Mozart pieces for a music history class, and even there, there were comments about THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN JUSTIN BIEBER, ect ect...I was like, really? lol. The excessive hate for him is almost as annoying as the excessive love.

People tend to insult things or people they don't like. The factor of him being an overexposed household name increases this at least tenfold.

Bieber is a musical genius while Mozart was some old closeted gay man with a bad white horse-hide wig who didn't blend his makeup correctly and was in terrible need of a nose job.

Who the heck is he 'threatening' to? He's no more threatening than teenage pop stars from previous eras such as the late Ricky (Rick) Nelson, Bobby Sherman or Donny Osmond.

Honestly, the most annoying/distasteful thing about Justin Bieber is his crazy little girl fanbase. I agree. His stans are some of the most annoying people I've come across.
