I've been meaning to start this hear for the past week and with the other Justin topic in full swing, I wondered if I should just pose this question there but figured it would get lost in discussion. And I think this question stands out enough for its own discussion.
Why is Justin Bieber so threatening? Essentially, why do people put so much effort into hating him? Honestly, I've heard maybe 4 or 5 of his songs. He's only had a few radio hits. Sure, his face is all over magazines and stuff but I find it odd that people seem to *hate* him because of that. Aside from this board and the magazine rack at the supermarket, I rarely ever see or hear of him unless it's a situation where he pops up in conversation and someone says how much he sucks.
So what is it about him that people seem to be threatened by? I mean, sure, I don't really like his music and would never seek anything by him out on my own. I don't hear him enough to be sick of him. And the most important thing, he doesn't interfere at all or take away from anything that I do like and listen to.

His ego, annoying vocals and the fact that people look at him as a representation of my country sickens me.

I really don't know much about him either, tbh. But from what I have seen, I know that he is completely talentless and has a terrible attitude and false sense of entitlement. Most recently, his attitude and conduct following his Grammy loss to Esperanza Spalding was frankly disgusting. Again, I wouldn't mind the cocky personna if he had actual discernible talent...
I don't hate him or anything, I'd just rather see talented and humble artists achieve success, not a juvenile dimwit with an inflated ego. So yeah...

Why is Justin Bieber so threatening? Essentially, why do people put so much effort into hating him? Because he's selling more than their favorite diva.

There is a Lady GaGa thread and you are more than welcome to discuss her there. Honestly, I think it's because most find his success undeserving because they find him talentless and his attitude towards many things have done him no favors as well. I don't really care enough for Justin Bieber to hate or love him. He's just there. :)

Imo it's a matter of people don't like anything shoved down their throats. Especially someone who is overhyped.

It's not really Justin Bieber that I hate (Well, I hate him 'cause he thinks he's so fly) but his fans are 10000x worse

I find him more amusing than anything else. He strikes me as the typical teenager who thinks he's hot stuff, makes bold but silly remarks ("I'm this generation's Kurt Cobain"), tries to assert his individuality by making bizarre fashion statements, and has a sense of entitlement. Plus, he looks and sounds several years younger than he is, and he's EVERYWHERE. It's all kinda funny to me.
I do think the guy has some degree of talent, and might be able to develop into a credible artist over time. Perhaps he'll eventually look back this phase of his career and laugh.

He embodies part of what's wrong with the music industry today and is annoying to look at and hear.

Also, this topic isn't necessarily limited to Justin Bieber. I'm just curious to know why people feel so threatened by anyone they don't like. I used Justin as an example because people I know in person tend to harp on him a lot, even people that have never really heard more than one or two songs by him.

It doesn't make him threatening, it makes him obnoxious.

I don't have a problem with him. He has a horrible personality but so does pretty much everyone who features in avatars on Pulse. His music ranges from inoffensive to quite good. What I don't like is his fans, but I wouldn't say it was their fault they're the way they are, although I do wish he'd try harder to control them.
Essentially you've answered your own question. The reason people on Pulse don't like him (...or any artist) is because they're threatening. The reason for every major fan war: Mariah vs. Madonna, Britney vs. Gaga, whoever, is because both sets of fans find the other artist threatening. It's just heightened with Bieber because he doesn't match up with any other fanbase (so attracts hate from everyone) and is male - Pulsebots don't recognise males.

But threatening how. How is it that anyone is threatening to another singer?

Honestly, the most annoying/distasteful thing about Justin Bieber is his crazy little girl fanbase.

But threatening how. How is it that anyone is threatening to another singer? He's being forced down all of our throats, which is preventing other artists from achieving their rightful milestones. Honestly, adding another 40 minutes to his documentary (only to keep the version of the movie in theaters for a WEEK) was nothing but a ploy to get him to #1 at the box office because he got the #2 debut. How many times will his label re-release the SAME SONGS? My World 2.0. My World Acoustic. My World/Never Say Never remixes/duets. It's ridiculous, and they're doing this so the kid can get more bragging rights because he goes to #1 with each and every re-release, thus blocking out other worthy artists debuting their albums the same week from their rightful #1 slots. So he's a threat because he's overrated, basically.

Um no. He's only being forced down throats of people who CHOSE to have him forced down their throats. First off, you don't have to go see NSN...it's just like any other movie. Doesn't look interesting? You don't have to go see it. It shouldn't affect you in any way by not seeing it And musically? Justin's had good selling albums. Radio wise, which should be the only thing that affects you because its something you can't control, his singles have done s**tty. It's not like his singles are flying up CHR to #1. His past few have barely cracked Top 20, if they even did. His current single is #32 and peaking...so it's not like he's being played on radio that much Also, HOW is he preventing other artists from reaching their milestones exactly? I'm sorry but that was a pretty ignorant statement. Last time I checked he hasn't blocked anyone remotely RELEVANT from anything... So, how else is he being "shoved down your throat"?

My thoughts exactly. I don't feel like he's everywhere and I'm probably more likely to be exposed to things related to him more than most people. But it seems like people feel required and justified to trash him at any chance and I find it confusing as to why. Why do certain singers and bands get trashed so much just because they're successful?

^ Cause he's not as talented as others but due to the right image and marketing and (probably) connections he's much more successful than them. It's a reminder of how unfair and annoying the music industry can be.

^ Cause he's not as talented as others. And how can you judge such a statement. I can tell you right now he can single CIRCLES around Ke$ha and Britney and probably Rihanna as well, which are two of the biggest recording artists right now. People feel so threatened by him because he's young and his music is teen pop, like Miranda Cosgrove and the JBros were.

If Justin is popular, it obviously isn't for no reason. Why is he the popular one? So many talented people, why him? He was making Youtube videos, and for some reason, people started watching them a lot. Why? Because he is talented.
Yes, Britney was piciked to be on Star Search and The Mickey Mouse Club, because she had the right image and connections.

Connections don't mean much,EsmΓ©e Denters had Justin Timberlake backing her and she didn't go anywhere.
Justin Bieber has very little talent. He is just another Aaron Carter. No difference between the two. When the Bieber fad ends,he will end up flipping burgers in Mcdonald's.

lol he's a marginally talented singer, has crossover appeal, he's a Caucasian dude that can sorta pull of urban/R&B lite music too which is a huge plus tbh, he has the look that appeals to a certain demographic of female fans, he's like a trick... pimped out to the masses ten fold, and so on. As said you don't need to be insanely talented to make it in the music industry, producers/production and marketing are the two aspects that are more important than actual talent in a lot of cases for pop super stardom. It's not surprising that he sells as much as he does. He's sorta the only person around right now that fits that niche that he's in at the moment imo, so until someone can challenge it or a new kid on the block rolls around.. he isn't going to be going anywhere. Even when his balls drop and his voice fully changes or w/e, I could still see him making music tbh. I will admit that I am tired of seeing him all over the place, they market the shit out of him. Him getting a Grammy nod was also a joke imo.

Wow so many ignorant and talent-blind people on here. When he's the next Justin Timberlake when he's old and all you girls are freaking out, I'll be saying "told ya so".
