When I search for Glitter, it appears under "Soundtrack" and not "Mariah Carey."

^When I got SS reports a few years back, the album appeared with all of Mimi's releases.
Regardless, though- it's a Mimi album through and through and always has counted as such (upon its release, Billboard credited it as "Mariah Carey (Soundtrack)"- as it should, since she's on every track, her name's on it and it follows the formula or albums before it).
Other "diva" soundtracks that count for the acts via RIAA and Billboard chart stats are Who's That Girl and Evita for Madonna, and The Bodyguard and The Preacher's Wife for Whitney Houston. None of those albums appear under those acts in SoundScan, but they are regarded as those acts' albums.

No doubt - I was just pointing out the fact that just because Christina is not credited (for whatever reason) doesn't mean it's not essentially her album. ;)

I agree- why I'm perplexed that the RIAA, at the least, doesn't credit it to her. :)

I don't think the number of Christina tracks has anything to do with it. Those aren't Christina songs--she would never have an album like that. It's a movie soundtrack through and through. Glitter, and even The Bodyguard, are musically completely in line with what Mariah and Whitney were doing with their music. It almost felt like a movie was built around these songs, not the other way around. That's why I don't consider it a Christina album because those songs don't seem to represent her as an artist, but her as an actress in a musical. The movie was promoted, not Christina, per se. The songs are the movie's songs, not Christina's. I'm not saying they're bad or good or above her or beneath her, I just associate them with the movie Burlesque, not the recording artist Christina Aguilera.

Christina was the executive producer of the album - and it's full of songs that she loves to sing.
I think Cher possibly has something to do with the crediting - her people and label, maybe.

That title is usually bought and paid for, and it doesn't change anything--these songs exist purely because of the movie. It's a musical soundtrack, not a Christina Aguilera album. Just like the Moulin Rouge soundtrack isn't the debut album of singing duo Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

Is it a Christina album or Cher album or a multiartist soundtrack? Those who bought it can call it whatever they want. Beyond that I am not sure it matters. Who gets the 500,000 credit on career soundscan lists. Or who gets credit for the low peak position isn't going to matter much. The album didn't do well enough to have a lasting impact.

And Evita is the type of music that Madonna would sing, dbh? She had done some Broadway-inspired music on I'm Breathless, but, otherwise... I think I mentioned it earlier in this thread, but another "diva" movie for which the "diva" does not get credit- Dreamgirls.

I find it funny that when Burlesque first came out or was announced everyone was FURIOUSLY ready to attribute everything to Christina-if it flopped it was Christina's fault, Christina made it flop, it was Christina's movie, Christina's soundtrack. Then, the soundtrack did decently and the movie/sales are doing decently and now we have the complete opposite-furiously arguing that it ISN'T Christina's at all it was CHER that made it popular or at least not flop. Yep, people really lose all credibility when they try to have it both ways.

Half the tracks on the Burlesque soundtrack are Christina's. Therefore, by the RIAA, it's HER album.
RIAA > whatever pressed souls on Pulse have to say about it.

^Actually, 80% of the soundtrack is her, isn't it?
However, when people look at the RIAA site, they see "VARIOUS" under the "Artist" heading.

It doesn't, it doens't look like Xtina cares enough whether that soundtrack is considered as her album or not. But i think she deserves to get credit cos she's the producer and she sing most songs in it! If The Bodyquard was considered as a Whitney's album, why not for this?

Welkl, she was a vocal producer, not a producer of the actual music on the album. But, with 80% of the album, she should be credited. Odd that she isn't.
Another non-credit for a soundtrack is 50 Cent for Get Rich or Die Tryin'. The RIAA has that as "Various," as well.

^Who's forgetting that? And what's that in response to? SoundScan looks to have started tracking sales circa March 1991. It definitely started before Billboard used it for the BB 200.

^No- he writes that that's when Billboard started using the data for the Billboard 200 and country albums charts. :) In the past, he had written May was when SS started tracking the data, but I clarified it for him that that was not the case.
March 1991 appeared on the SoundScan site, and that date makes sense, as there would need to have been at least a couple of months of "test" tracking done before Billboard started using the system's info.

Updates on Britney's catalog albums please?
I remember hearing Blackout passed 1 million earlier this year, but has In The Zone passed 3 million and Circus 1.7 million?

Blackout passed the million mark but the last time someone updated the numbers was in July when it was at 998k...it had been at 991k from sources for the longest. Similarly, In the zone was at 2,991,000 and I'm sure it has sold closer to 3M but not sure if it has crossed yet.

Ask Billboard posted Whitney totals, but it had the wrong figure for My Love is Your Love- it's now been fixed, but it seems a tad high (it was reported as 2.753m in August 2009; I don't think it had sold 40K+ in 2 1/2 years, before the passing). EDIT: I'm told that is the correct total, though. www.billboard.com/column/chartbeat#/column/chartbeat/ask-billboard-can-katy-perry-top-michael-1006185152.story?page=2Total Sales, Title, Year of Release 11,830,000, "The Bodyguard" soundtrack, 1992 (the No. 6-selling set of the SoundScan era) 2,797,000, "My Love Is Your Love," 1998 2,491,000, "The Preacher's Wife," 1996 1,744,000, "I'm Your Baby Tonight," 1990 1,741,000, "Whitney: The Greatest Hits," 2000 1,091,000, "Whitney Houston," 1985 995,000, "Whitney," 1987 978,000, "I Look to You," 2009 760,000, "Just Whitney," 2004 490,000, "One Wish: The Holiday Album," 2003

^Looks like Whitney and I Look To You will cross the 1 million scanned mark.
One Wish will cross 500k scanned.
